If you were to create a sand box RPG, where you could completely customize your character at the start of the game, what would the gameplay and story be like?

I ask this simply because I found this created a large variety of answers from my group of friends and I wanted to know what you escapists thought.

I, personally, would create a sand box game based on a book I'm writing.

I'd create it as an actual giant sandbox, and your character controls sand, so it is like being Poseidon in the middle of an ocean, except you and the enemies can walk on the water (sand). The story(?), who needs a story when the combat system would be the best the world had ever seen?

Which is based on .... what setting/ period/ genre? No spoilers wanted, but it seems like you are holding back discussion content.

Anyway, I would go for fantasy rules, but set in the future. Something about still using hand to hand weapons in the future appeals to me. It wouldn't be post-apocalyptic or in a devolved setting either. The future is quite rosey, but has outlying regions a bit like the firefly universe that require well manicured, opulent rich dudes to get back to basics once in a while.

Just a thought of the top of my head, but it could be interesting.

I'd go for a game based in a city similar to that of Sin City and you can play as a cop and chose whether to a good cop or bad cop. Take bribes or take down the bad guys, kill people or arrest them, that idea of thing.

Yeah, my book is another stupid story based on super-soldiers, although the idea is a little original and the main characters don't ever actually encounter them, but merely observe them. The bad guy is a mock version of the person writing on this site [http://www.truthism.com/], but I make him a little more interesting.

Actually, scratch what i originally wrote.

Instead, i would make a game revolving around rocketry. All weapons are some variation of missile (half of them are guidable, but you can distract them with flares), there are a lot of rocket-propelled vehicles, and your primary mode of transportation is a jetpack.

You're a monkey with an arsenal of guns, badass closerange weapons (broadswords on fire, lightsabers, ect.), you know every form of martial arts ever and you have a jetpack. Your goal is to kick everything's ass.

Snatch/Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels The Game.

Or in other words, GTA London. It'd be fantastic. If Rockstar is clever, they'll listen to me.

That's different and different is (sometimes and should be more often) good. You'd possibly have to change the game from the book though. In the game you'd definitely want to battle these guys at some point even if only as a finale.

An interesting and different idea I had would be a game that takes place in the jungle/forest. You would pick a predatory animal to play as, like a panther or a hawk. You would roam the jungle and search for prey to hunt. It would be very stealth based. Surprise is the best weapon in a hunt. You want to get as close as you can without being seen or heard before you stike, to have the best chance of your attack being successful. And you would want to pick a good angle of approach, taking the terrain into account. Also you would have to use some tracking skills to find the prey; knowledge of habitats and gathering areas, finding the "trail" of where an animal has recently been, maybe some type of smell-o-vision for the hunters with a keen nose (or tongue for snakes). And there could even be a coop multiplayer mode for the pack animals. Which gives me a geat idea. An unlockable character could be the velociraptor, which of course would be available for coop, and would allow you to hunt humans. "Clever girl." Heck there could even be a whole dinosaur mode, where you are in a prehistoric landscape hunting other dinosaurs. Thats actually a good idea to have several different zones/maps to play on with for the different animals to go with each; jungle, woodland, savannah, desert, mountain, marsh, and dino-land.

It would have to be set in a post apocalyptic war where there has been a zombie outbreak. You would play as a rebel trying to overthrow the government but also have the Zombies being annoying.

I had a zombie sandbox game idea written a couple other times on this site, but it's early and right now I can't be bothered to find it.
