I'm a lefty. I doubt I'm schizophrenic though. I heard a statistic in a similar vein that something like 45% of serial killers are left handed, but I don't know how true that is.

I'm sorry for jumping to conclusion, but the data the original poster posted has no source nor does it make much sense.

It sorta had a source. You could look up James Watson and see if he made any such comments. Yeah, that one sentence was reeeeally poorly written. What I'm talking about are the folks who are bitching that this doesn't show cause etc. etc. The original post isn't about cause. Left Handed is a trait, which means it denotes a genetic marker. It's a piece of info, and the OP is saying if you have this you might also have this, dunno why.

Eh, I guess I would of preferred a link in the original post for the source of his information. It's also a bit weird telling people that because they are left handed that they may have schizophrenia considering that if you had schizophrenia, you likely would know about it after it goes back into recession and you've likely been diagnosed with it by now. It's not like autism where diagnosis is whishy-washy.

It's also a bit dangerous, personally, to release information like this to the general public. It only leads to hysteria and the placebo effect.

Let's say that 50 are schizophrenic. So 30% of them are left-handed (according to data):

15 left-handed people are schizophrenic
35 right-handed people are schizophrenic

Therefore this data proves you are more likely to be schizophrenic if you are right-handed, not left.

I know I've heard that people who are left-handed are generally better at imagining things, because the right side of the brain, which lefties primarily use, is better at that sort of thing. Maybe I'm just pulling this out of my ass, I don't really know.

Schizophrenia does not equal Multiple personality disorder.


It's hallucinations, delusions, paranoia and thought disorder.

I know. I just also need to get rid of a constructed personality.
One of the effects that the personality has on me is much akin to Schizophrenia, so I lump them in together.
I get rid of the personality, I get rid of the other problems.

I'm left handed and I hear voices, each with their own personalities but with my voice, in my head that have conversations beyond my control and go through quite a lot of personality shifts. Although I don't know if that means I have schizophrenia.

I can write and do anything else with my right or my left hand (yeah, ambidextrous is the right term), and I'm both (or neither) eye dominant. Does this mean I have allt he problems Right AND Left-handed people do? Geez.
