My old friends who refuse to watch foreign or independent films becuase they are foreign and/or independent. Fucking dicks. And it's can't just be the subtitles because they're happy to watch kung-fu films and they like Apocalypto. I think it's because they're fucking douche bags and I really am glad to be rid of the lot of them, it's not often someone will say that about their friends.

I really don't get anyone that writes off entire genres of music, films or books.

I've yet to see someone do this without showing a massive ignorance of the subject matter.

For example, pretty much everyone on this forum who has hated rap. The reasons that they give are always "I like melody in my music"/"its all just about guns bitches and bling"/"its just crap poetry with swearing in it".
I listened to rap for five years, guess what? It's all of the above, 98% of rap is about banging bitches and spending stupid amounts of money on stupid shit while a generic beat blasts in the background. Also, all music with words is poetry.

I've personally never bumped into someone who is blatantly ignorant about stuff for no apparent reason, but I'm not a really out going person, I tend to not speak to people and only complain when something I feel is really wrong gets said. (IE "God is the best thing ever!" me "pshh, someone's never played an Xbox")
Cough cough irony.

I find it silly when people say things like rap is just guns 'n' bitches. It's like saying all rock is boring cause all you see are the Coldplays, the Nickelbacks and the Trains of the world.

P.S. All gaming is stupid cuz itz just shootin people in tha face ova an ova.
wait wait wait what
you genuinely consider coldplay to be rock GENUINELY , wowww the term has been diluted in the popular masses recently then.
Obviously not, don't confuse me with a devout and close minded rap fan arguing against a devout and close minded rock/metal fan (i'm assuming he's a fan of that, although he could be a dance nut for all I know). But I was merely pointing out the absurdity of it all.

Rock fanboys hate 'rap' cause all they hear is 'Fiddy' bragging about guns, bitches and his copious amounts of wealth on the radio and rap fanboys hate 'rock' music because all they hear are Coldplay playing the same bland, not-saying-anything-to-me dross on the radio. Lets clear this up, the majority of any genre is bollocks but you can't say that one genre is crap and retarded and that another is better because let's face it, the music you listen to isn't the stuff that appears on the charts every week under the "rock" moniker, it's a bit more obscure, same goes for rap or any other genre.

And I say that as someone who has everything from Led Zep, Daft Punk to Outkast on a single playlist*.

*My "Rocking Out" one, if anyone's interested.
i stand corrected , decent rebuttled, and omg daft punk, cant wait for tron ^^
sidenote id be interested to see if you listen to any acoustic or jazz music. Just to see how wide you interests are. (to check if im not weird for liking stuff like barenaked ladies and deadmau5 next to stuff like earth wind and fire and weezer)
While I'm don't generally go out my way to hunt down acoustic or jazz, I probably wouldn't be able to give you any particular artist that you haven't already head a millions times before (open to suggestions, mind).

Also, Barenaked Ladies, EW&F and Weezer are awesome (well, the Blue Album and Pinkerton anyways ;))

Well I guess that woman doesn't get it that Nergal is anti-religious, so if god were real, he would most likely just ignore Nergal.
Even if he did tear up a bible.

OT: People who say that you can't understand black and death metal lyrics.
I can hear them most of the time with little, to no problem. And I don't even try to listen to them, I listen to death and black metal for the music. Or mostly only for the music, the lyrics aren't allowed to completely suck.

They're probably worried it will turn them into egotistical, elitist (at least they percieve themselves as elite), arty douchebags.

OT: I'm tired of hearing that "HALO IS SHIT!" It's not, overated sure, but not bad.

the thing is halo is a very subjective game. If you like it you probably like it a lot, if your like me and dont get it, its puzzling why everyone likes it a lot. And i have really tried to get into it, i love the universe, i love the vehicles, hell i love the new map maker, but the gameplay never gelled for me, and i can understand why it would irritate people.

And the elitist statement whilst sometimes true isnt entirely accurate, they veiw themselves as more knowledgeable about films because they have watched more, like a scientist is more respected having researched more, or a chef who has cooked round the world is more acomplished. Now it is a little elitist i agree but i have to state their a little allowed to be considering what the general moviegoing public gobbles up on a regular basis.
Maybe, but the only ones I ever met think that movies that aren't foreign or obscure are shit and love to talk about how much better they are than everyone else because they don't like to conform and express that by conforming to the minority groups they idolize instead.

I have a friend who, quite often, complains that he is bored. So I did the obvious thing any noble person would do and sent a link to tvtropes. He took one look at it, said something along the lines of "the design is crappy" and never went on it again. He didn't even bother to look up anything...

So my question. Do you have any examples of people being highly ignorant, close minded, or too quick to judge?
While I'm not a big fan of the series, I've always felt that Halo has had very fun multiplayer capabilities. When advising a friend who is big into FPS online games to try it, the mere mention that it was Halo related caused him to drop the idea entirely. He's only ever played 2 though, but I'm not sure that should be enough to completely deny a game a chance. I'm a firm believer that you can try things you think you won't like or enjoy, and discover the opposite. :)
To be fair, if he has played the second one, it's very doubtful he will enjoy any more. Its the best one in my opinion.
But yes, I also firmly believe in trying new things you think you won't like. Some of my favourite film/books etc are the ones I thought looked rubbish beforehand.

He also uses the overused stereotypical phrase "Why do you like Rock Music? It's just people screaming"
No, that's screamo-death metal-crappy-assitude music. :D

I hate when people flame me because I play Guitar Hero and Halo, own a 360, and use Facebook constantly. Apparently I'm everything that people here hate.
It's not what you use.

It's how you use it.

I bet Yahtzee has all of those things but nobody flames him.

Partially because the community worships him but mostly because he doesn't use them in the same way as everybody else. He probably uses them in some edgy, vitriolic, cynical way that people expect him to use it.

I used to hang out with a guy that would instantly dismiss any RPG right off, complained about the turn based combat and so on, and then when you showed him an Action RPG like Diablo or Titan Quest would ***** about not liking the isometric view.

He also holds a general hate for the entire fantasy setting, I could never get him to play games like WarCraft(when it was still an RTS) with him it was always one of the C&C games or some other Sci-fi setting.

And no Co-op, only once ever did I get him to play Co-op in Quake 2. It always had to be some sort of adversarial contest with him because he was too insecure to consider the though of working together. We can also add to this that if a game didn't have adversarial multiplayer it was almost always shit.

Story of me being ignorant:
I used to be quite ignorant of the Harry Potter series. My mother checked out the first book and forced me to read it. I rebelled so much she punished me until I finished the whole thing. Despite the fact it was in the genre I liked and it was constantly recommended to me, I outright refused to read them.

This summer I got to go to Universal Studios in Orlando, and I'm sure most of you know of the recent area made, "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter." Throughout my time there, I became more interested in the story, and by the time I left, I told my family I'd try it out.

Lo and behold, when I went to DR after that, my mother had left the first book at my Grandmother's house. Read it, loved, it, had nothing else to read, so I read through it about three more times. I am currently reading the seventh and last book, Deathly Hallows, and have just watched the first movie. The same happened with the movie "Avatar" and many foods I've tried out.

Story of someone else being ignorant. NOTE this might offend catholics:

I used to go to a catholic school. Whoops, let me correct myself; it was an extremist catholic school. RELIGION MUST DOMINATE YOUR LIFE HERE!!!!11!! PRAYING COMES BEFORE EATING! YOU CAN GO WITHOUT FOOD!!! YOU CANNOT GO WITHOUT PRAYER!!!!

Back on track. I heard a few girls talking bad about Obama, how he isn't fair and everything. What caught my attention was when one said "And he's for abortion." I asked them what it meant, as I didn't know back then. I got "It's when you kill a baby before it's born." I replied I thought it wouldn't be bad as long as it was early; if possible, have the baby, but if it interfered with you life, then I thought it justified. They IMMEDIATELY began telling me "It's still a life" and "what if your mother aborted you?"

Later that day, they brought me the school newspaper. It had a picture of three kids holding signs that said "Abortion is bad." They told me "see? This is proof abortion is bad." I thought, "So I can write on a sign that shitting is another form of birth, and that would be proof?" So these people thought Obama was horrible because he was pro-choice. Just as a note, I am pro-choice myself. They even had a rally at that school while I was there, protesting abortion. If I wasn't surrounded by catholics, I would have facepalmed.
Ah yes, Harry Potter. The first books I ever read just for the enjoyment. I'm glad you like them, but the last one is a little....odd.

One of my friends hates anime. I would respect his opinion a LOT more if he didn't add that he liked Pokemon because "it's not anime."

Also my brother. Let me put it you this way. If an anime's not Death Note, DBZ, FMA, Rurouni Kenshin, or Bleach, and if a video game isn't Tekken, God of War, or Resident Evil (after 4), he automatically assumes it must suck.

Ex: Uncharted 2 - He hasn't even touched the controller with the game in our PS3 and he thinks it sucks!

Oh god, where to start.

Well, gaming fanboys for one. We all have that one friend.

I think what pisses me off the most is when people dismiss my taste in music because it's instrumental (for the most part). I'm sorry, instruments speak 1000x stronger than words. Especially modern music. Geez.

Christ, where do I begin?

I know some really...really...REALLY stupid fucking people, the cream of the crop out of all the people we point at and go "Dumbass". Naturally, this adds to them being completely ignorant of anything outside of their little box. You know what I can't stand? When one of these mental midgets has the gall to claim that I've done or said something stupid. Seriously, when all you do is spout shit and talk out of your ass like an arrogant prick who thinks they know everything, exactly what sort of opinion do you have for me when everyone can see you're just faffing about like a moron?!

*Calms down*

I'm sorry. I hate dumb people. And while I make the effort to have an informed opinion backed with information, nuance, and clever wit...I come across these people who shit all over everything, hold it up, and call it gold. So yes, I know ignorant fools. Opinions can be had, but I won't accept an idiots point of view as word of god no matter how he paints it, not unless the hand of god itself comes streaming down from the sky and gives the thumbs-up...or he can prove it. (Even then, being right AND a jackass isn't a good combination.)
