Seems like it should just be up to 5 or 10. There werent even 25 total good systems. That list, it gets hazy after 10. Surprisingly, the only one Id truly argue, would be the N64, which should be at a better position, atleast a couple higher.

man I really wanted the SNES to win
I'm gonna go cry into Super Mario all stars
Considering that All Stars was just a compilation of mario games on the NES?

However, they weren't original developments, nor did they present any major innovations or revolutions in the gaming industry which, judging by the ranking in this list, is a major part of why the systems that are higher then the SNES are where they are.

To take the NES as an example, the NES itself was a MAJOR jumping off point for the gaming industry to get going into more of a mainstream eye, even if many of the games it had would be considered simplistic and bad by today's standards.

I never even knew there were that many systems.
The current generation is just another drop in the ocean, it seems.

I knew the NES was going to be first, it was the system that single handedly pulled video games out of the recession. I only recently got one(an NES that is), but I can see why it was able to do this, featuring games that weren't just the same thing with ramped up difficulty per level and had some actual visual differences. Earlier games were simple and many were clones, but the NES did do something different.

I disagree with the SNES being above the Genesis, they should have had a tie on that one considering how good both were and how each did something impressive and really changed things up.

All's well that ends well. The NES won and the console wars can finally rest in peace.

Actually, the list is quite appropriate I believe. I would have moved the SNES higher but the deserving console did win, so I'll shut up.

Seeing as PS2 is second, i guess PS3 should've stayed backwards compatible after all.

Gladly suprised to see that wii beat gamecube (and 360 beat xbox original)...
people always tend to let nostalgia convince them that the old console was better even though the new one can do EVERYTHING the old one could (due to backward-compatibility) and more to boot.

ARE THESE PEOPLE ON CRACK?! WII BETTER THAN PS3? What the fuck are these consoles judged on?
Brilliant use of Caps lock buddy!. The review criteria is in the OP's link and has been quoted multiple time throughout the thread.

Since your lazy, I'll quote it for you:

Each console on the list ahead was selected for its influence on the industry and the gaming culture as a whole, with special consideration for their benchmark titles, peripherals, monetary success, and total hardware sold. But beyond sales figures and critical reception, one of the biggest contributing factors in our ranking process was our lasting impressions of each console, and how it contributed to our love for gaming and inspired us to become involved in the industry.
So you can see why each console was reviewed as such, personally I agree with the PS3's ranking. It may have blu-ray and sixaxis/Dualshocksomethingimportant gamepads but the Wii sold more units + games and the wiimote (despite its obvious gimmick) brought motion capture to the forefront. PS3 didn't revolutionize anything that already existed.

Thank you for spouting truth in a world of fiction. The Cell is the new Emotion Engine. Hype, hype, hype!

Congrats to the NES for its well-deserved victory. And it warms my heart to see the Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast in the top 10.
