This thread is making me feel a little older. I am very tempted to write something like:

"What's wrong with the youth of today? When I was 14, kids weren't like this. We played civilized matches of Red Alert 2 and Counterstrike and didn't spout such profanities and racial slurs when we got angry."
But of course everyone knows this is bullcrap. 14 year olds will be 14 year olds. Unfortunately that means some of the less annoying teens will be lumped in with the rest. It sucks, but it's life.

I take issue with the maturity of people, not the actual physical age.

You seem decent, so I shall let you live tolerate your presence.

Look, I'm 16, and I agree with this point... but seriously, this site has went over this so many times, its been worded much better and a hell of a lot worse, there has been some good discussions on this, and some bad ones. Seriously, we've been over it. We know they're some good ones out there, and ignore the people who talk about you just because of your age. End of discussion.

Do you refrain from screaming into a microphone?
Do you resist any urges to bring sexuality, or the sexual proclivity of someone's mother, into the conversation?
Do you work towards goals, hold a team-oriented mindset and keep yourself from ruining others' enjoyment for no reason other than "the lulz"?

If your answer to these three questions is "yes", then grab your mouse or controller and join the game. I'll be happy to have you aboard.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Young gamers are to be encouraged!

Your age says nothing about how old you are.
What I mean is that 14 year old are often behaving older then 16 or somtimes 18 year olds.
No wait what I meant to say is that its doesn't matter how old you are but how old you behave.
Its hard to explain in english....
No it isn't. Age =/= Maturity.
Huh?
I was explaining that it is VERY easy to explain in English.
My bad. I only saw the post that was quoted first.

From what I've seen, people at that age get far too overexcited by everything. Looking at these 10-13 year-olds in my local Gamestop breathlessly rattling off pleas to their parents to buy them the latest Warkiller: Battle-Ops or whatever is creepy.
And you can see that the majority of these turn into homophobic racists with an attention-span measured in plancks.

I just don't think minds at that age should be exposed to shooters [I'm assuming the OP was talking about fps games]. Hell, I think a lot of 18 year olds would benefit from a bit less simulated warfare.
I'd have to disagree. I've been playing FPSes since age 5 or 6, and am not homophobic (actually, I respect homosexuals and get REALLY pissed off at homophobes), I am not racist (replace the above with any race and racism), and my attention span is ok (not great, but ok).
But this seems to be the rule rather than the exception. If you knew that a procedure would have some excellent results, but that the majority would turn out disastrously, would you try to set up some kind of safeguard? Or just carry on as usual because the small number of good results are worth the inconvenience caused by the dearth of bad ones?

Kids I can live with, cuz I remember the good ol' days when my voice hadnt broken whilst playing CS 1.4. That being said, you're all forgetting the true cancer of XBL - G Thugs.

I know how you feel man.

I started playing Counter Strike: Source when I was about, oh... 10? I got a lot of crap about my squeaky, prepubescent voice. I just ignored them.

As I got older, I noticed less and less people call me out on my age. Nowadays the only time someone calls me out is on Modern Warfare 2, but most of their community have the mindset of a racist thirteen year old who feels edgy because they're in a (mediocre) clan and have the "Joint Ops" callsign...

Just enjoy the game and ignore their comments. Mute/kick if possible, and don't let them put you down.

Lets be honest..if you don't match the set age on the case of the game, you shouldn't be playing it. So don't come moaning to us if someone gets annoyed, you're not legally viable to be playing the game, regardless of maturity.

If you're going to play the game (like all kids under the age requirement) Don't plug you're headset it, so that you remain anon.

Also, please could you explain this?

"adults have started to tell me I shouldn't play multiplayer because children ruin the online experince"
"Good thing I got no mic"

Unless of course you mean IRL..

I once had a 12 year old friend on Xbox Live who was damn awesome. I also know many who were ultra retarded.
I know I was an idiot back when I was thirteen.

I'm 14 I have RDR had L4D 2 and MW2...
The only time I hout down the mike is when somone insults my country even then only when i'm extemely tired. Point being age does not = maturity. For instance quite a few people my age are right winged bigots I've even heard somone in my HUMANITIES class shout 'BNP BNP, Death to all niggers, BNP BNP!'. I myself can be one of the most open minded people you can know and the only things I hate with a passion is bigotry and pericution. Quite a few 'adults' cannot say that my own dad once said 'Gender changing operations are self mutilation'.
Did that just go way off topic...?
