Ehm... it's been a pretty quiet year for me.

What I've got that's good:
The Prodigy - 'Invaders Must Die'
Mono - 'Hymn To The Immortal Wind'
Mastodon - 'Crack The Skye'
Marmaduke Duke - 'Duke Pandemonium'
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - self-titled
Fightstar - 'Be Human'

Ones I'm getting soon (either because they're not out yet or I haven't bothered firing up iTunes much lately):
EELS - 'Hombre Lobo'
Sonic Youth - 'The Eternal'
The Mars Volta - 'Octahedron'
Morrissey - 'Years Of Refusal'
Thursday - 'Common Existence'
Enter Shikari - 'Common Dreads'
Gallows - 'Grey Britain'
The Horrors - 'Primary Colours'
Sunn O))) - 'Monoliths & Dimensions'

Ones I'm contemplating:
Patrick Wolf - 'The Bachelor'
Noisettes - 'Wild Young Hearts'
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 'It's Blitz!'

There's bound to be a load of stuff I've forgotten. Also, we're waiting for new albums from Muse, Biffy Clyro and The Cribs. So... actually not a very quiet year, now I come to think about it.

I'm looking forward to the release of Clutch's new album Strange Cousins from the West on July 7th. And a couple of months ago they rereleased Slow Hole to China, which, being a rerelease, isn't new. But it was new to me, having never owned it before.

Yeah, I pretty much just listen to Clutch, so.... Oh I think High on Fire is putting out a new album before the end of the year, I'll probably check that out.

You should change the topic to "... Metal in 2009".

Why do so many people here listen to metal?.. or rather, why are there so many posts about it?

I like Rise Against new album alot and I tought Papa Roach new one was pretty good too, but it is not as good as their oldest stuff.

Now to whats been bad. Nicklebacks newest release... that CD is god awful, Tacky mainstream hiphop like lyrics and same power chords they been using for all their songs.
Stay away from this album on all costs, If you actually like this album... i pity you
I don't even give bands like Nickelback a chance anymore. There is so much more interesting music being made that I can spend my time with. I rarely find myself interested in mainstream American music these days. It's all overproduced, safe, cookie-cutter Pop, there are no differences in genre to my ears.

Yay for Dream Theater!
I think that albums gonna be great.
But what was so bad about Systematic Chaos? I love that album...

My personal taste. I got into Dream Theater all at once, starting with their A Change of Seasons EP, then FII, Awake, I&W, SFAM, Six Degrees... then along came Train of Thought, which had several songs I disliked. Bad, forced Metal sound and lyrics, not the reason I listen to DT. I like them for introcate, ELP-esque Prog, if I wanted Metal, I'd listen to one of the other thousand groups who do it better. Octavarium came about, and I liked The Root of All Evil and the title track, that was it, I felt the band was losing their touch. SC came along and.... ugh.

I just don't like it, not one song on the whole thing, it was a corny, passionless, Poppy mess. Black Clouds is great, beginning to end, somehow they got the Metal sound right, though they really get back into a more Prog vibe, personal lyrics mixed with good conceptual ones, a smashing conclusion to the Alcoholic's Anonymous Suite, James finally started to use his slightly broken voice to his advantage. No more high notes he can't hit live anymore, he knows his voice, and goes for more obscure sounds. Jagged notes, with that still great soft tone, unfortunately there is still that weird "thrash metal voice" and John Myung is still not given enough of the spotlight, but I can shake off my minor issues with the album. It's a substantial improvement.

Not really a fan of metal.

Coaster by NoFX came out this year. That was pretty okay.
I'm not a huge Metal fan either, actually. But I like a bit of everything.
Wait, how have you listened to all of it?
Or was it already leaked? I knew a couple of songs were. I'm waiting to listen to all of it on the day it comes out, except for A Rite of Passage.

Exactly what i mean. I hate commerical music, usually becuse it always sucks. And stuff that gets played on the radio get really really quickly old.

My favourite album this year is "Take it to the Floor" by Cash Cash. Anyone who is into pop music must download this album right now:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?jyimimqh5lj

DOn't hate me for the pop love and don't worry it's my own link.

Another favourite albums of mine this year is Fact's self titled debut album which is a pretty damn decent heavier album.

I posted two Metal albums.
Then my two bonus picks were also Metal, but really, I have no intention of this being overrun with Metal.

Not that I mind it, people like what they like.

Maybe a lot of metalheads happen to be nerds too.

Most of my buddies that listen to metal are nerds, 4chan regulars, and the like. Not to mention bands like Gama Bomb and Swashbuckle singing about Space Invaders and pirates respectively, the metal and nerd cultures have meshed together pretty well.

The whole thing leaked a few weeks ago, though I will be buying a hard copy, as I do with all music I love.

I highly recommend that one, surprisingly good, considering I'm not that big a Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan.

Most people listen to it becuse it well... It's just awesome? Alot people that listen to mainstream music usally don't understand whats up with listening to metal. And they usally associate metal with the ''OMG *SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM*'' type music.

I thought I told people to not post this.
Also, Ollie, you say nothing out there has impressed you, which suggests you've heard everything out... which I doubt.

I'll make it the first album I get on my Hip Hop dump.
Thread needs more Hip Hop fans.... or French music fans... because I have an affinity for it.
