Wait, The Dear Hunter leaked? Why was I not informed?
I must fire my secretary!

Also, again, I only listed two metal albums blarghhhhhrageughblarghmacaroni
I'm not going to post a link, because that would be illegal, but blogsearch.google.com is an amazing tool to find out about releases for albums ;)

also, they got some guest singers on this one, TMV and Dredg both did some guest singing.

The only album from this year (so far) I'm really into is Crack the Skye. Looking forward to new Mars Volta, 3, Between the Buried and Me, and Coheed, though.

Sounds great, I'll check it out soon.

Also, after comparing them both now, I think I'll flip flop Actor and Pays Sauvage on my original list. Emily Loizeau is amazing.

So far this year, I've liked Alestorm's "Black Sails at Midnight" and De Staat's "Wait for Evolution". Not much, come to think of it. I'm very much looking forward to A Wilhelm Scream's new (yet untitled) album, a supposedly new Gnarls Barkley album and the "99 Songs of Revolution" project by Streetlight Manifesto (& co I should say).

What about releases which we're excited about?

Alcest is supposed to be releasing a new album. If you don't know about Alcest, then shame on you. Its an absolutely fantastic shoegaze (early stuff was black metal) project by the musical genius Neige.

Brand New is going to be releasing a new album later this year, which is supposed to even top god and the devil are raging inside me

You should change the topic to "... Metal in 2009".

Why do so many people here listen to metal?.. or rather, why are there so many posts about it?
Most people listen to it becuse it well... It's just awesome? Alot people that listen to mainstream music usally don't understand whats up with listening to metal. And they usally associate metal with the ''OMG *SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM*'' type music.
my metal has screaming and I like it just fine

Seriously though Everyone download Grey Britain By Gallows, its amazing.
Whats it like compared to "orchestra of wolves"?
Faster, Lot more punk than hardcore, you really feel the UK vibe on this album, its dirty and has more fast songs, id say its better.

I would honestly say it was a really good album, the lyrics are really fucked up, but he's shown real growth.

Amesoeurs self Titled album is the one I've been listening to a lot

Dredg just came out with a new album, not like catch without arms, its a bit more pop sounding, but good nonetheless

The Dear Hunter's Act III: Life and Death (leaked) and it is awesome! the first few songs sound exactly like Act II, but then it breaks off and goes its own direction.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Self Titled is probably one of the better shoegaze albums I've heard.

I've heard good things of Octahedron by The Mars Volta, so I may pick it up soon.

and probably, by far, my favorite album of the year is O'Malley's Bar by George Dorn Screams. Awesome Polish Post-punk/rock

Isis released Waivering Radiant, which is good, but feels like a carbon copy of In the Absence of Truth

whoever said the thread should be named "metal in 2009" should definitely look into the albums I've mentioned.
Dear Hunter LEAKED!? Thanks for the update DL right now!

By all means!

New Amiina, Burial, A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Pauline Croze, Agua de Annique, Riverside, and Porcupine Tree. Among many others.

I'm a big Regina Spektor fan but I'm not sure if I'm going to like "Far." :/

I like the fucked up lyrics... "I was born with a dick in mah brain yeah fucked in the head" and then it gets weird..... too weird.... but some of the other songs are just so excellent.

Yeah insane is my favorite song, granted its also the most fucked up, An entire song about being raped by your step dad, and the way its explained make its pretty easy to believe it all happened.

I'm kind of glad, I'm in the minority of people who just doesn't like Animal Collective.
I've heard all of their albums a few times each and I don't get what all the leg-humping is about.

Can't fault that choice.

For me, this year has been about :

Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid
The Mars Volta - Octahedron
Jeffrey Lewis And The Junkyard - Em Are I

and Grizzly Bear, obviously.

EDIT -

I honestly can't remember what albums have come out this year, but I do know that the newest A Day To Remember album came out this year, and that was good, so was the newest New Found Glory cd. I wanna get the new Rancid, Anti-Flag and Rise Against cd's, the stuff I've heard off them are pretty good.

Looking forward to see if Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution put there new album this year like they said they would, but I'm not holding my breath.

I hate commerical music, usually becuse it always sucks. And stuff that gets played on the radio get really really quickly old.
Isn't this what the topic poster didn't want to hear or see?

So, someone recommend heavy metal albums or songs or artists.

Requirements:

-It must sound heavy
-Fast, mid, slow; either three speeds are good
-Keep the death growls to a minimum. Viking and melodeath are okay but anything outside of that is *blech*

Albums/artists for reference:

"Crack The Skye" by Mastodon
"Black Clouds and Silver Linings" by Dream Theater
New Megadeth and Rammstein (debatable?) albums

Same here, sounds like cookie cutter Broski indie rock to me.

Mewithoutyou is worth checking out.
Amesoeurs new ST album should be up your alley. has some black metal parts, but you can enjoy/skip those.
