Stephen King books. Especially IT! You have to read IT! And don't cop out and watch the movie read the book IT! Also some of his other books. And "The Passage" but I forget who that was by.

Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas is pretty good, Life of Pi, and the complete Harry Potter Series (gets better after book 3 I promise).

Are you a Star Wars fan? Track down the three copies of the Zahn/Thrawn Trilogy. They basically act as a really well done sequel trilogy, with a great villian, cool new characters, and some nice development for the existing ones.

My top picks:
The Dresden Files & The Codex Alera by Jim Butcher
The first two or three of the Sword of Truth series (It starts out very good but after a while it starts going downhill fast)
Dune
The Riddle of the Wren by Charles de Lint
The A Song of Ice and Fire series
The Kolmar Series by Elizabeth Kerner
...I have more, but that's enough for now.

Oh my gosh, I remmeber that at one point the only black guy in our form room at school brought in that book. It was so funny, but so true as well. Gosh, good times.

At least, i think it was that book. Meh.

OT: If you want a medium-small sized read, without any massive use of purple prose, and a good mixture of philosophy and humour, I can only go so far as to recommend one book....

Fear And Loathing In las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson
My favorite book ever. If no-one has ever even heard of this book, let alone read it, then they seriously need to sort their own cultural interests out.....

Or maybe just look it up. That'd be nice.....

Harry Potter. If you like fantasy, this is a good series. If you're more into supernatural stories, read Cirque Du Freak.

What a wonderful book. I have an extremely uninteresting story about that book that I'm not going to tell... unless you really want to hear it.

Um yeah I just finished reading Animal Farm, 1984, and Candide and they're all fantastic. I'm almost finished with John Dies at the End and it's very good as well. Next, I plan on reading One Bloody Thing After Another, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Anthem, and Heart of Darkness... and way too many books after that.

A book by one mister Oscar Wilde called "The Picture of Dorian Grey" a great read that shows what horrors can be wrought be an enlightened yet vain person who relinquishes his soul for eternal youth.
