The book "Rule of the Bone" by Russell Banks is fun. It's about this kid who runs away from home and gets into all kinds of crazy adventures, totally reinventing himself in the process. It's good, descriptive writing, and lots of funny dialogue. It's told in a realistic way, but is still dramatic enough to hold your interest.
"Survivor" by Chuck Palahniuk is really interesting, too. Some people hate on his style, and I definitely understand why, but the narrative of this book in particular is incredibly different from anything else I've read. It would be worth a library rental at the very least.
