Never been grounded - Someone once tried to brainwash me into grounding myself though - Dont read too much into that
I promise not to read too far into it if you tell me more of the story behind it.
Please?
Well, apparently i should have grounded myself once because apparently it was the "Right Thing To Do" -- This is why you dont listen to the opinions of random peoples friends parents -- This was 5 years ago by the way :)

Hello everyone, I have a question.
Regardless of how old we all are now, we were all kids at one point or another. And, when we were kids, we probably did a few things that upset our parents, causing them to "ground" us, or put us on time-out or something of the like.

So, my question is this:What is the most ridiculous reason your parents have given you for "grounding" you.

I may not have worded my question all that well, I'm only operating on about 2 hours of sleep, so I'll give you and example of a time I was grounded. So you understand what I'm looking for.

One day, I decided to go for a walk, it was cold out, so I put up my hood on my jacket I was wearing. When I came home, my dad looked at me and said "Brett! Why are you wearing a hood? Are you doing drugs? Only people who do drugs wear hoods. You're grounded!" I couldn't believe that I was honestly being grounded for having worn my hood to help keep my ears warm.
Wow, that is the worst reason to get grounded for.

Main reason I ever got grounded where:
Clashing on different religious ideas, or forgetting stuff, and then lying about something because I forgot it. Suppose the second one I could've worked on, but I usually forgot.

And even then, It didn't happen much. Was generally well behaved or kept to myself.

My parents didnt believe in grounding. But then, I was a well behaved child. Again, I put that down to being brought up well :)

/smug.
And you sir or madam have every right to be smug.
Good parenting is a skill that is quickly becoming a thing of folktale and legend.

OT; Yeah I was grounded a few times growing up. But grounding in my house didnt mean I got to go to my room it meant that I got extra house work.

My mother tried to ground me a lot. This typically resulted in me disappearing for a few days at a time (with all the stuff I needed to still make it to school, and I'd find my way there and do my work). My dad, on the other hand, was very difficult to make angry, but once I did, he and I were taking swings at each other. I'm convinced his way was better. I can sneak out pretty easily, I can find where you hid my games really easily, and most of the time, you'll never know I did it. It's harder to dodge a punch (or overpower a guy you're giving 100 lbs to in a grapple) and if you do, he'll know, and come back with another one.

I was never "grounded" but I got a lot of my crap taken away from me as punishment. On one occasion it was because I was watching Yu-Gi-Oh because "that show is too violent and evil for a nine year old." Fuck you man.

I never got grounded. That's an american pop culture thing.
I got explained what I did wrong, and why it was wrong, so that I could do better in the future instead of holding on to my anger about unjust punishment.

Must have really messed me up.

I got grounded on multiple occasions, but I deserved it for slacking at school (I mean REALLY. I never did my homework from junior high to now on. I managed to get to the University though, so I guess It wasn't all that important :p).

I have a friend though, who gets grounded for every little nitpick. So far the most bizarre thing was, when he couldn't find his socks once. He got grounded for two weeks, and his grandma took away his guitar so he couldn't play it. Seriously, what the fuck?

My mom doesn't believe in grounding

she believes in taking away or selling my possessions while I'm gone (depending on how bad I messed up)

I'll do something bad she won't care then when I come home my PS1 or my TV will be missing
(I was young and poor at the time... now I'm just 18 and poor :p)

I've never been grounded in my life, my parents treated my like a human being and as a result I never did anything worth being grounded for anyway.

The only thing I can think of that's close to being relevant to this topic would be that I spent most of my school life in detention because the teachers were too lazy to single out which students were actually misbehaving and just kept the entire class behind.

Something about how they wouldn't do it anymore after their friends got angry at them for making them have to stay late. Their friends thought it was hilarious and it just gave them all more of an excuse to do it again in the next class. Rinse and repeat basically every day for 7 years.

My parents are pretty relaxed about things. Bad grades are the only thing that they would "ground" me for, and I haven't been grounded since I was 12. When they do need to punish, they've figured out that a good scolding works wonders.

Or I just have some common sense and don't get in trouble very often.

This thread makes me sad and reminds me why people don't deserve to be parents just because they put a penis in a vagina. Luckily, I have great parents, so sometimes I forget how terrible some are.

Do't get worked up at them for grounding you on stupid things like that, just laugh it off an eventually they will realise how paranoid they were being. Getting worked up about it will just make them think you are a deviant youngster. On a side note your parents sound really stupid, no offence.

I was never grounded, I never done anything to deserve it. Although they would use it as a threat.

Haven't been grounded like that, though a teacher at my school threw me out of the music classroom because a girl was hitting me with a xylophone stick for laughs.
