Guess what, double standards have been here for a long time.
If a white man gets stolen from, beaten, or murdered, that's a crime.
If a black man gets stolen from, beaten, or murdered, that's a hate-crime no matter if it was in a dark alley where the criminal couldn't even see his face or whatever.
If a white man dissagrees with a black man, he's a racist.
If somebody dissagrees with a Jew, or politics of the state of Israel, then gosh, he must be a Nazi.
Here in Belgium, we get that alot. If a politician says something negative about Israel or whatever in some way, then you can be sure that the next day in a dozen or more newspapers, he's going to get branded a Nazi.
Mind you, the people calling him that aren't even Jews themselves.
You can make jokes about everything... but oh no, NOT about the jews! A very good and sucesfull comedian here once did that. He got branded a nazi. Again, not by actual Jews.
ONe year later in his next show, he talked about that nazi experience a bit, and he said, Why the f*ck can I make jokes about everything, but not Jews? Seeing Woody Allen when I was young is the sole reason I am standing here on this stage right now. Fuck. Off. Learn this word: HUMOUR.

I can't help but think of this one time at the cafeteria at a university where me and my friends that were of all different races looked around and noticed how they have school clubs for every race but white people. One of the guys responded jokingly: "That's they're job, to make sure there isen't one."

I'm so sorry that being the most privileged race in the world is so difficult for you, all the hate crimes committed against me, both physically and mentally, are surely nothing in comparison.

There seems to be a misunderstanding in this thread. The reason that people say their proud isn't because of bad things done in the past, it's because of bad things done TODAY. The reason a gay person says their proud is because alot of gay people have to hide in the closet and are beaten or murdered everyday. The reason why a Muslim person might say their proud of their culture is because of hate crimes and hate speech against them TODAY. A Native American might be proud of their rich cultural heritage despite having to live in the absolute worst parts of America TODAY. The reason why people assume that a white person is disrespecting them because of their race is because white people disrespect them because of their race TODAY. Proclamations of pride are a response to negative experiences in life. Not because they read that an ancestor was treated badly a long time ago.

First off, white doesn't mean anything, it's just a misguided cultural response to the term black. Forty years ago people identified their actual cultural heritage (German, Irish, Russian, Polish, Greek, Italian, etc). White isn't a culture, but black is. I was raised in an Irish community, not a 'white' community. Most black people born in America are raised in black communities, while recent African immigrants live in Nigerian, Rwandan, or Sudanese communities. The black culture is a separate culture than that of recently immigrated African-Americans, but 'white guilt' is too prevalent to acknowledge or even recognize that distinction, so we lump ourselves together the way we assume they've lumped themselves together. Even though that's not how it works at all.
In response to the OP, whenever someone automatically assumes an action of mine was racist because I'm white, I kindly inform them that I'm a 2nd Gen Irish immigrant, and we've been discriminated against, enslaved and murdered for centuries, too. That usually shuts them up.

Well, first, I agree with the people who say that it's silly to be proud of something that isn't your own achievement (or isn't even an achievement). But let's break this down (even though I know almost no one will read this or care)...
When I say something like, "I'm a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, and I'm proud" (and you bet I'm proud), I'm associating myself with a group of people related by their disturbing love for a nonsensical card game. When someone says, "I'm black, and I'm proud" what they're doing is associating themselves with the memory of the black slavery, the Civil Rights Movement, and - to a lesser degree - the Harlem Renaissance. Sometimes that's what's actually meant, sometimes it's not. The repercussions for being a YGO fan are pretty small - we have to hang out in your school library and not have girlfriends - whereas those for being part of this past are enormous. Unless you live up to the words and deeds of the Civil Rights Movement, you're NOT proud.
"Black pride" grew out of the tail end of the Civil Rights Movement. It's similar to how Republicans think "liberal" is an insult and Democrats think "conservative" is an insult. In the same way, blacks took up being black as something to be proud of. So "black pride" is pride of the (large) segment of the black population that is descended from slaves.
In other words, black AMERICAN (for the most part) history has erased actual black history, in which the slave trade is merely a chapter. Africa has had a history longer than all of Europe, but all of it is ignored in favor of the few hundred years of European involvement in Africa. Someone more poetic might consider this a final irony, as, in freedom from slavery, they choose to acknowledge only the part of their history in which they were slaves.
Meanwhile, white pride is entirely meaningless, because even when you say that, you're not attaching yourself to anything tangible. If you're proud to be Danish, then you're not proud to be related to Russia, or England, or Luxembourg, or one of a dozen other predominantly white countries.
For the sake of full disclosure, I am half-Caucasian, half-Arab. That means I look white, but when somebody starts talking about the Middle East I can say "I'm Arabic, *****!" cuz I'm a troll.
