I'm writing a story, and I need an alias for my serial killer.

He is completely batshit, lives in L.A and basically mutilates just about anyone he can get his hands on. Any ideas?

EDIT: Like his serial killer name ie. Jack the Ripper, the Happy Face Killer, something that the news people call him.

What are his habits? His method of operation(how he kills)? His personality?

Give us more details. THEN we(or at least I) can help you come up with an alias.

One the police/media have given him.

What is his signature? What is specific to all of his kills? Beyond the fact that he mutilates people there should be something unique to what he does; his name could come from that. Or if he only kills in a certain area within LA it could be derived from that, like the Beltway Snipers, or Boston Strangler.

If he mutilates whoever he can get his hands on, then one can assume he's a psychotic guy who doesn't really care about covering his tracks. Unless you make it clear in your story that he's more organised than that, and doesn't just go in a blind frenzy whenever he sees a possible victim.

Does he use a specific weapon? You could use things like 'slasher' or 'ripper,' both are pretty generic and describe his way of killing pretty easily. How does he mutilate his victims? Does he do it while they're alive, in order to watch them suffer? Or does he kill them quickly and mutilate them afterwards? Does he threaten his victims with mutilation? Does he take any souvenirs/trophies with him? Is there any specific victim type which appeals to him most?

David Berkowitz wrote letters to the press using the name the Son of Sam, but previously the cops named him the .44 Caliber Killer because of the gun he used. So, the type of weapon can influence what the police call a killer. Edmund Kemper mostly killed hitchhiking co-ed students, so he was called the Co-Ed Killer. Gary Ridgway was called the Green River Killer because of his location. The police don't seem to go for really complex or clever names.

How does he kill people?

He cuts em up. With really jagged instruments. Then he just kinda dumps their bodies wherever so the cops can't get a lock on him.

Im going to guess its only at night? Because if so then the Night Edge Killer sounds preety good to me.

For you, backstory is very important I agree. Was referring to the trend of the thread in general.

And, word to the wise, don't cut 4-skin straight out. It's exotic, will appeal to the European crown, the ladies love it for the most part...

He mutilates them while they're dying, doesn't take souvenirs, and his victims are typically people that were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He has enough presence of mind to dump the bodies in random places, but other than that, he's not terribly organized.

There's really no link between his victims, but his MO is to cut their throats, then hack up the bodies. This is done really poorly, as he has no medical knowledge. He is pretty non-specific as to where he dumps the bodies.

Also, it's not entirely random, like, oh, I saw you now you're dead, but the reasons aren't really relevant to the way he's killing.
