I think "The Bride" had the right idea in Kill Bill. In this case I'd tell the kid I did the right thing, and it had to be done, but if he feels the need to seek revenge I'll understand and fight him when he thinks he's ready. Then I'd leave.

i know .. if it was a baby then i'd cap the guy anyway

the fact that he has a child means nothing .. he has to face the consequences of his action

if the child is old enough to have been manipulated by his father then i'll kill it too, if not i'll take the child and make sure it gets a proper upraising under extreme supervision and when he or she are of mature age they will be informed of their father and their history

Scenario: You've been on a long journey to kill your enemy. If this was a book/movie the audience would be rooting for you to storm into the lair of your enemy and have an epic final showdown. and normally you would. You have your reasons to want this person dead, whatever reason it may be, they may be planning to destroy a city or they have murdered your whole village, or another "justifiable" reason to end this person's life.

However when you burst into where your enemy is, blood stained from all the minor threats in the way, with rock music blaring in the background, you notice your enemy sitting down... with their child. Under normal circumstances you would have engaged your enemy to a fight to the death (or just shoot them in the face) and settle matters, but how would this child affect your next actions? (if at all)

I think I'd have to see how the kid reacts. If they beg for their father's life, or tries to protect him, I'd spare the man's life. Otherwise, the man would be ground meat and the kid would have a hell of a conversation starter.
