Did you ever find yourself growing attached to one of the builds you made, so much so that you consider that one to be the "true" one?

Like for example, in Saints Row 2 I beat the game with a Bald, pale British guy with a purple fedora and matching zoot suit, and now it just kinda feels wrong to play it any other way.

Anyone else have this happen?

The Mass Effect games. Every time I try to replay the games, I tend to make her look almost the same cause it seems weird to play as a completely different character.

Actually, yeah. Tends to be the first character I make. Mass Effect is a good example, I've messed around with other builds and designs but my original Vanguard (who I've carried over across both games) is my "real" Shepard.

Kinda. I know I have found myself identifying with the notions of what Everquest presented as a Shadowknight. Playing other variants of Dark knight, Death knight, Shadow lord, etc, seemingly dont mesh well unless they mix the components of 2h weapon favoring, Heavy armor set, The ability to cast dark/black magics that are focused around HP drains, Stat drains, and snare-esqe techniques.

In both Mass Effect and Saints Row 2, I took the time to make a suitable character, and ended up thinking of them as canon. When I watch videos on youtube of either series, it just looks so wrong to me.

I bet it's the same if anyone saw mine on these videos, but I can't see it any other way without it looking like a cheap imitation.

I guess those games are just very good at characterising the player, aren't they?

I don't have that issue with MMOs though. Probably because they're just your avatar, and don't really act out like a proper character would, as in ME and SR.

EDIT: Now I'm mysteriously tempted to make a wallpaper collage of my characters...

Mass Effect. I can play through the game with different builds, but the 'true' shepherd for me is a ruthless paragon, raised on the streets of earth. She's a female soldier, and she always looks out for her crew, despite not really giving a shit about people she isn't affiliated with.

On a side note, even different builds in Mass Effect have to be female for me. Jennifer Hale's voice acting is not only better than Mark Meer's; the voice, thus the gender, has come to embody the character for me, probably because I played the female character first.

I had a Fallout 3 character that I didn't like too much at first, but as I progressed thoughout the game, I came to grow attached to. Then my save files got deleted, and despite all my attempts to replicate said character, the customization screen had so many fucking options I could never get it quite right...

Pretty much the same, which is why I use the imports. Never imported any of my male shepards tho, just all my females. >.>

Yeah, I got really used to the lady I made in Saints Row 2 too. She had a reasonably good voice actor and I just really didn't feel the need to ever change her appearance.

Every time I see another variation in some YouTube video, something just feels out of place.

Sometimes, yeah. In KOTOR I picked the guy who most resembles me, and now I just can't imagine that character having a different face. In GTA San Andreas, CJ NEEDS to be skinny with a good chunk of muscle. I can't fathom playing as a fat CJ. Ironically, I absolutely hated my first character in Dragon Age. He looked like Ron Weasley's cousin with down syndrome. And since I always switch between different races and genders each playthrough, I actually don't have a 'definitive' look for the Grey Warden.

I love Customisable characters i try to make my Boy or girl Charactor look really Cool but i always seem to get distracted and make a funny looking one.

But saints Row 2 or as i called it 'GTA FunLand' is very cool nothing like wearing a Hot dog outfit and going off to protect a celb.

For Mass Effect, which I think is the only game I've got where you can customise the character's appearance, I've stuck with the same appearance for Shepard and imported her into Mass Effect 2. Something about that one particular appearance just seems right for the character.

My Shepard for Mass Effect 2 is honestly the only way I could imagine the character looking and acting. It really makes me reluctant to ever play it again because I thought his character was so great.

Hmm interesting usually this is true though for Mass effect it took me a couple of playthroughs before I settled on a female shepard I prefered , I acctually ended up not changing her default face at all (I always found charachter creation in that difficult) and I ended up with the black almost "bob" cut that seems to be popular

as for my saints row charachter I couldn't imagine her any other way, just a skinny caucasion almost plain looking girl with brown hair, which makes the fact she is a badass gang leader (and evil phsychopath) even more hilarious

In the Rock Band series, my character is always a shirtless dude with a large head of black hair and a cape and tight leather pants complete with a tattoo of my online name going up his left arm, as a well as a tattoo somewhere else on his body(In this case, its a tattoo of a flame on his abs)

My characters in WoW that are of the same race/gender all look exactly the same.
Always use the same hairstyle, beard and face since I think they're the ones that look the best.

When customizing regular humans in other games I tend to go for the longest hair and a goatee if possible. Want them to look as much as me as possible, I suppose.
In Mass Effect I went with the standard Shepard however.

Well, usually the first character I make.
However, when I play it again, I'll usually make a completely different character, and tend to think all of them as different characters in that same universe.

I first played Saints Row 2 with a tiny goth chick, but currently with Cockney-accented Albert Wesker.

You don't need to have even that much options for the character-customisation itself, if you can play the game in different ways.

In all pokemon games I have at some point played as a character called Toxica who specialises in the poison-type, and I consider her the same character in all of those games.
