He was hired to assassinate a Bosmer in the Imperial City who kept stalking the Arena Champion.
"The most peculiar fact about this case, Imperial City officials say, is that the arena champion and the assassin are in fact one and the same person."

OT: Pretended to be a jester and told a little Nord I was a messenger of death before killing her... Yeah, that stuff always catches up and bites you in the backside later... I really shouldn't have fled to Skyrim after the being accused of pushing a Bosmer fan of the Arena Champion from the top of Dive Rock; "but I swear, he jumped after I told him to get lost!"

Actually, if its supposed to be many years later, I'll need to think of another crime...
Oh I know; I was loitering in the same place for six hours in the same place with no justifiable reason; under current public order offences this is extremely serious and in order to make an example, the judge gave me the death sentence.

The Imperial Watch caught me stealing a wooden fork from three city blocks over and the crime was so heinous that they sent me to Skyrim to be executed.

He was caught in the middle of sex with the chancellors wife after doing the daughter while playing a rock guitar solo. He ran away to skyrim but forgot to get dressed and was taken in on public indecency charges. Hes being hanged for public indecency because skyrim takes that shit seriously.

Ill be playing a Dunmer, and Nords and Dunmer dont always get along. Dont have to let your imagination run wild for long to figure out how easily that might lead to an execution.

I am a mercenary. Wet work, smuggling, the works. Been caught many times, this is no big deal. Except this time, it's in my home land.

He time-travelled 400 years into the past from 1033 in the Third Era of Tamriel, and by doing so sealed the prophecy that foretold the eruption of Red Mountain, the Oblivion Crisis and, now, the events of Skyrim as he is the Dragonborn. The Skyrim government wished to know how he did this, but he refused to tell them, so they sent him to execution to use his soul to discover his secrets of time-travel.

He accidentally knocked a vase of a desk in someone's house, then when he went to pick it up to place back on the desk a guard bust into the house screaming.

"STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM"

(moving objects in oblivion counts as stealing)

He attempted to throw a goblet into the local refuse heap and hit a guard in the face instead - eventually arrested for producing a massive mage bill after being shocked with low-level currents for 5 hours and still refusing to comply. He is being executed because they are basically sick of his illogical crap.
