I remeber a story I read a while ago about a 10 year old boy who raped a 4 year old girl then attempted to rape his 3 year old brother. When a Judge asked the boy why he did it he replied "It was because I was horny" or something along those lines.

This is so weird. Look where society is going. Today, I saw a little brat skateboarder standing in the middle of a road. A car came along, and made a quick honk. The kid then flicked the woman off, and walked away.

There are way too many of these kinds of people. It is most likely the parents at fault, for this kid and the for the kids of the OP

Killed?
No.
...yes, it's shocking, yadda yadda.
But killing them is just a knee-jerk reaction.
There are so many better methods of punishment.
Locking them up in a cold, dark, entirely concrete room with no food or water and leaving them to go insane.

Seriously fucked up... I mean thats just plain random violence. Knee-jerk reaction or no, it seems that if the general public had a larger impact then a lot of our old ways would be brought back... Like the cane in school... Jesus I don't think anybody would have any hands after a year!

Stuff like this has been going on since the dawn of time. If they had sinks, and rope, and cigarettes 4,000 years ago they would have done it back then. I'm sure 20,000 years ago they used clubs, torches, and vines to achieve the same goals.

Boys will be boys.
Finally, someone who agree's with me. But still, don't say "Boys will be boys". That's a stupid generalization since im a boy and i don't go and do that.

This is what happens when being a dick becomes the norm, kids will imitate it.

I think I'll just take heart in the fact that none of you will ever be judging in court or worse, making the law. We'd be thrown so far back in social evolution, even the middle ages would seem like paradise.
Quoted. For. Truth.

Seriously, every time a thread like this pops up we have a bunch of Rorschach-wannabees coming in and wanting vengeance, often disguising it as "justice." You, good sir, are one of the beacons of sanity here.

I blame the Entertainment media.

Not just Videogames, they are a small thing, but TV shows, Films and even the News! The news goes into horrific detail which may give people an idea. Violent films are everywhere, and TV shows know how to be very Graphic after 10.
I agree to some length on some of your post, but this doesn't really apply. I have a better view than most, being as I went to Edlington school for 7 years not too long ago, and Edlington is just a bad area where this sort of thing is 'cool'. Violent attacks like this happen all the time there (admittedly not with knives and 10 year olds) and these kids will have simply seen their older friends (and family, most likely) generally being dickhead chavs to everyone, and, being kids, decided to 'outdo' them all.

The fact is, these kids probably didn't have any idea about any of the art forms you listed - their evenings will have been spent riding around on bikes, drinking, smoking and generally being antisocial whenever possible. They've been brought up in an environment where that sort of thing is common, and they are obviously twisted enough people to embrace it rather than run from it. It's really quite sad that almost everyone under the age of 25 in Edlington would probably accept this behaviour if it hadn't been picked up by the national media.

Sorry if this seems a little ranty, it isn't directed at the quoted at all, but I have had first hand experience with the sort of people who performed these acts and it still makes my skin crawl.
You aren't being ranty, you speak the truth!

It isn't just the Entertainment media like I orginally said, but it is the family upbringing! The friends influence! I don't think that Jack the Ripper did what he did because he saw Friday the 13th! No, he did it out of reasons I can assume were because his parents treated him like crap.

And I'm sure we all remember that famous scene in the Dark Knight. "Why So serious? Lets Cut a smile in your Face!"

Welcome to Grey Britain, a land of endless dole queues, bad attitudes, bad diets, kids defending post codes with knives, drunks glassing each other, rapists, racists and now this... pretty shocking, yes, but nothing new. This kind of shit has been going on for years and it makes me sick every time it happens. Anyone remember the murder of James Bulger? If not, this'll basically tell you what you need to know - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Bulger (yes I know it's wikipedia, check the sources at the bottom of the page) It's just amazing how children so young can be capable of something so horrible. Whoever said we can't blame children for anything as they are too innocent was a blind moron.

the news is even worse, the tabloids are all speculating that the boys were sexually abused themselves and over such things without any proof. 'tis a damn mess
