I said economic interest because it seemed to be a more appropriate name for the idea you were putting forward.bagodix said:I said corporate interests, not economic interests. The second hand market does not prevent the game industry from making new games. Trying to prevent second hand sales is all about greed, not necessity or survival.
Yeah they sort of had it coming considering what they did.Vuljatar said:Yup. They asked for this sort of thing.

Yep, no cheating around here I see. Looks like it worked perfectly for IW. Who needs to keep an admin in the loop managing cheaters, we can just leave it up to machines, like all those self driving cars we see all over the place.Bigeyez said:Just for everyones amusement

So they don't have the RIGHT to make a game how they want? They don't have the RIGHT to invest thier time and money to make a product however they want and then market it because you don't approve? And you are calling everyone else retarded with that defense? Did they pistol whip you before putting that gun to your head forcing you to buy a piece of entertainment because that would explain the brain damage you are obviously suffering from.CorpBlitz said:I am a 'paying' PC gamer, I don't generally pirate anything. Exactly this.... pirates are just hypocrites or cheap. There's no justification they can use. I will admit to being a hypocrite, as I pirate music, but only buy about 30-40% of what I pirate.Heathrow said:The problem most companies have is that they assume each pirated copy of a game is one lost sale which is ludicrous, the truth is most people who pirate games wouldn't have bought them anyway.
I didn't say they didn't. They should be pissed off and not buy it (not buy it doesn't = pirate it though). They should voice their concerns and send Bobby angry letters. Formed a petition. Yea right as far as the suits are concerned not buying and pirating are the same thing because they do not get money either way. That mentality is so wrong on so many levels. First it isn't like they can't get a good idea of how many are pirating it. It may not be completely accurate but a rough number. Second if you pirate it all you are saying to them is your game is good but I am a cheap bastard. By not buying it and using that money to make another game a best seller you are sending the message "I am not happy with your product". Only one of these ways will change things for the better. The other will change things for the worst while they attempt to stop it and punish legit customers in the process. You blame the developers for DRMs. I blame the pirates.shadow skill said:Yea right as far as the suits are concerned not buying and pirating are the same thing because they do not get money either way. It would be just like when Crytek tried to blame piracy for the not so great sales of Crysis. Anyone with a brain knows that the real problem was that at the time it came out lay people did not really have machines that could run the game decently. But do you think Crytek admitted that they had completely screwed up? Hell no! They just blamed pirates.
You're missing the point.Diablini said:Wait, wait.Internet Kraken said:Ugh. I can't believe you guys actually think this piracy is a good thing.
When game developers look at pirates, they don't see them as people protesting the choices of the development team. They see a bunch of greedy assholes who just don't want to pay for the games. If you want to protest the actions of a developer, then you don't buy their game. If enough people don't buy the game then that proves a point to the developer. But if a ton of people just pirate the game, all that says is that there needs to be stronger anti-piracy in video games.
Piracy is never a good thing when you focus how people are stealing and Breaking the Law (Judas Priest FTW), rather focus on this: I pirated Spore. I was waiting for 2 years, checking the blogs every 5 minutes. So what happened? I got promised a diverse game, which promises to be original. I got a limited creature maker, 2 mildly good phases (Micro and Creature Phases) and the rest was really bad and broken. Like those attacks on your planets every 3 minutes. Maxis crippled that great idea. They gave us and arcade game. Not what was promised, like the realistic creature phase where you hunt other animals, kill them, and drag them so your relatives can eat too. Instead we got a crippled WoW-ish fight engine. The point is everyone got robbed. But, hear this out: I am going to buy two copies of both Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Why? Because I deeply respect that developer and those franchises. Because I want to play co-op with my dad and support Blizzard. And because I trust that they will not fail me, for they never have, whilst Maxis has failed with most of the Sims 2 series AND is run by the Antichrist of gaming (EA).
I don't look at it like it's stealing. Because when you steal from a cesspool, the police doesn't come and take it back.
Otherwise, pirating from every studio and saying you respect it is douchebaggery.
EDIT: Horay for double posts!
So what you are saying is that they can't make excuses for poor sales if no one buys the game. Yes that makes sense. The excuses started before the game even came out, piracy has existed on consoles for many years and yet that has not caused legal channels for playing a game without purchasing to simply dry up. In fact with services like Gamefly it has become even easier to do this. I don't hear anyone talking of not being able to rent DS games despite the fact that piracy is rampant. Yet do we have such channels on the PC? Wait what's that no. What is the excuse? Piracy right. So the thing that has affected consoles to varying degrees since their creation magically necessitates the removal of various legitimate channels for experiencing a product....Yes that makes sense.squid5580 said:That mentality is so wrong on so many levels. You seem to be laboring under the false impression that game companies only wish to make more money so that they can fill a pool with it and go swimming about Scrooge McDuck style. I could continue to explain to you all the reasons you're misrepresenting/misunderstanding the business world, but it's not worth the time it would take since you haven't absorbed a word I've said so far.bagodix said:The game industry wants to eliminate second hand sales just so they can gain more profit. Oh noes a spoiled little brat called me a douche. I am going to go cut myself. Since when does any corporation owe you anything other than the products you paid for? 1. Yes they do have the right to make what the want, but I have the right to disapprove. Get off my rights bro!
2. Yes, everyone that says "Just don't buy it" is a retard. They will lead our planet into an Idiocracy because of their obviously complacent attitudes towards corporations and government.
3. Not that I'm aware of, but that doesn't remove the fact that squid is a trolling douche. (retaliatory personal insult).
