I think Tim Minchin tries too hard, if I'm honest. All his quotes are like that, but coming from him they seem a bit pretentious.

Well, if you think about it i guess you could say most people who try to be both poetic, funny and smart at the same time come across as sort of pretentious. Can't say it's something i'd pick on from a stage persona, but eh.

Kids are running around like hooligans & their brittish father smacks both of them over the head & tells them to sit down & shut up.

A total stranger who thought it was his civil right to stick his nose in someone elses business that wasn't his gets up & says 'In Germany ve do not hit our children like zat'.
