I can't count the number of times I forgot what game I was playing and tried to jump over pits or crouch-jump onto obstacles when playing Portal.

Parkour.

After the playstyle in Mirror's Edge finally 'clicked' with me, it was amazing. I honestly am in love with parkour done well in video games, Brink being a great example.

But yeah, after playing Brink or some other game involving parkour and attempting to play another fps game that doesn't allow such movement... Well, lets just say a lot of chest high walls tick me off.

When I was playing Deus Ex: HR my mind always knew there was a cover system so a few times before I got used to it I'd sneak over to a piece of cover and press A to glue myself to it. Or rather, jump up in the air and get spotted/riddled with bullets. Then of course there was the trying to aim and ending up glued to a wall, but that wasn't quite so bad.

They first time I played a final fantasy game (FF7) I kept hitting X to try and confirm instead of O. It was sooo confusing to my young mind, "Why would they make it this way if everyone else does it that way?" I remember thinking.

Rather ironic, isn't it, when you consider that O as confirm and X as cancel was the original design, and America fucked that up during localization.

Playing duex ex:HR this week i have so far tried to hit the left trigger to aim guns seems i play too much cod. Also a few nights ago while playing was sneaking around pressed right trigger expecting it to go into vats for some reason thinking i was playing fallout. But instead threw a grenade at a guards back.

I am not sure between me and the guard who was more surprised
I agree, I do the same thing. I had the same issue with the original Deus Ex also. Why must the scope key always be in such a strange place.

I just recently started playing the original Mass Effect again in order to start getting ready for my Mass Effect 3 save, and I keep trying to play it like Mass Effect 2. Pressing the A button to get into cover, trying to sprint to get through the Citadel faster, only to remember that I can only sprint for two milliseconds while in combat. I still love the game, but it's very jarring going back from Mass Effect 2's improved combat mechanics.

Because they're both in the source engine, I often mix up Half-Life 2 and TF2. I'll try to use the flashlight in TF2, or try to call for medic in HL2. Just silly stuff like that.

Rocket jumping in Borderlands: Lose health, sometimes die.

Strafe while running in 007 Goldeneye/Perfect Dark: Get speed boost, complete missions faster.
Strafe while running in Far Cry: No speed boost, lose mission because you can't see shit.

Snaking in Trackmania United: Crash into a dozen walls.

Press Q to switch weapons in Half Life 2: Fast switch to a better weapon for your situation.
Press Q to switch tools in Minecraft: Toss that fancy diamond picaxe into some lava.

I tried to use VATS in Deus Ex 3. So Adam threw a grenade, which rebounded to my feet and killed me.

This isn't a game but I still find it funny.

I had just gotten off a Fallout 3 bender and went to my buddy's apartment. The sign said entrance on West side. I immediately looked down trying to find my compass.

Games are bad for not all having the same commands on PC. Who sets E to jump? Honestly! E is use items, Space is jump! Foolish developers. *Barges into controls and changes the settings*

It turns out that if I try to aim down the sights in Halo, I end up sticking a team mate and having the whole team get mad at me.

Playing Deus Ex:HR on my PC, and pressing right mouse button to use iron sights... Couldnt work out why it would go into 3rd person view and put me against the wall, at least until the tutorial came up on wall hugging

I was just playing the DeathSpank: The Baconing demo and during a fight I thought "I'll stay in front of that projectile so I can use a timed block to deflect it. Oh wait, that's Bastion." They do have a similar isometric viewpoint, so I guess that helped.
Anytime you play the next iteration of a fighting game and the move list has been arbitrarily changed this is a problem. "Ah that's not two quarter circles forward and punch anymore.... so ... I'm dead then?"

Playing Dragon Age: Origins after having played a lot of Oblivion:
"Okay, I'll press 'B' to open up the map/inventory screen... Wait, what did I just drink?"

And then playing Mass Effect after having played a lot of DA:O:
"I'll just press 'Back' to open the map/inventory screen... Huh. I hope that grenade doesn't hit anyone important..."
