Sometimes I really enjoy living in America, no matter how much trash people talk about it.

This is one of those times.

It's not necessarily Rudd, it's the 50-60 year old ministers who believe that the Internet is a cesspool. God knows some of it is, but not enough to warrant blocking the whole thing.

You've still got GM food up the wazoo and doctors charging you for the privilege not to die.
Not to mention that your country's farming style results in there being one type of apple, one type of lemon, basically, stripping away biodiversity in the name of profit.

But, these are repairable things, just as internet censorship (which I did believe was impossible).

hey, maybe this will work and it'll be fixed only to block sites with illegal content...and other dangerous sites of our glorious and all knowing government. Then once thats done they can start censoring movies, books...hell, why not just take control of the media. then our lives can be free of bad influences.

and maybe i'll go sit in the corner and cry

(P.S. excuse the slippery slope fallacy, it won't go that bad but my enter score fell just short of what i needed and im in a shit mood :(....i need a hug...)

Yes this is a blow to freedom of speech, freedom of information. It doesn't make me feel good about the future. Though, for the moment, it is only bad sites and I can live with that.

When they start banning sites that criticise the government and that sort of thing, I'll be rioting. Oh and if they ban all porn sites, rage.

OMG WTF IS WRONG WITH OUR GOVERNMENT!!! Seriously, I love Australia because (as far as I have observed) we tend to be able to duck/dodge/comletely avoid most of the shit other countries go through. And now here we are getting our internet taken from us (at least in part). If I was 18 I would totally protest and/or make large political stands against this in increasing intensity until it reaches assassinations OR until they refine the internet thingy to be absolute and ONLY block child porn sites and terrorist sites OR until they just don't do it at all.

EDIT: I just read the newer link you posted ... WTF HOW CAN THEY SAY EUTHENASIA IS INNAPPROPRIATE. I mean sure, some people don't like the idea but the government shouldn't decide whether or not we can have access to the topic!

Oh FFS !!
Great, just great. You know this wont be the end of it.
This just sets the precedent and allows all sort of new bullshit laws to come in.

Where will it end now ?!

Fuck You Government, fuck you. I hope /b/ catches on to this and if the plan is set in motion for internet censoring, they fuck up the filter.

As the title says, our oh so smart government in Australia is now going to start filtering websites from our searches. Couple this with our no R18+ policy for games (which all here know about, though they just started taking peoples views on this) sometimes i really, really hate this country and the old fogeys running the show.
Sorry if this doesn't make to much sense, i don't do very well with explaining things sometimes. So read the article, post your views or don't. Just thought people should know.

Edit 1: If you are so inclined, go to the following website and fill it out, it may not do much as they have already decided that the filter is going ahead, but it can't hurt:

My condolences to you and everyone else in Australia.

Well, you and everyone else with their head on straight--Michael Atkinson & Co. can go fuck themselves.

Australians have the right to freedom of speech under the United Nations and this is blocking that privelidge.

Would anyone be interested in being my lawyer in a law case for Human Rights

Zen vs the Australian government

Unfortunately, as Australians, we have no rights.

We already have a filter on our internet...it just isnt a very good one.

But yeah the announced this ages ago, it will slow down our interent alot but australian hackers have already said that this so called filter is going to be easy to get around (even those people without half a brain)
This is so stupid though, this place is run by those mothers like in the simpsons "some pleaase think of the children" and everyone nods and goes "so be it"....
