Just so you know. Satanism isn't a real religion.
I would like to know what makes Satanism less of a religion than other "real" religions.
Oh I don't know. Perhaps the fact that it's name is nothing more than melodramatic shock fodder and has little to nothing to do with it's preachings.

Maybe it's because it's existence is just piggy backing of another religion?

There is also the fact that it is really nothing more than philosophical musing about selfishness and has no inherent worth beyond. look at me. I'm edgy. Now watch as I go have sex on a Christians lawn!!!!! (HYPERBOLE. Just to clarify)

And a lot more shit I can't be arsed repeating.

Really buddy. You're about 5 pages late to the conversation. I've been discussing this for a while now. READ THE THREAD.
I only had time for the first page mate. Not all of us have a huge amount of time to read an entire thread.

But seriously, you've obviously not looked deeper into the religion. Sure its piggy backed off christianity, but why shouldn't they be considered a real religion just because they're batting for the other side of christianity?
Seriously. You've obviously not read all of my comments. Don't assume things about me till you do. I've actually read most of the, ahem *literature* surrounding Satanism. LeVey especially just ripped off Nietzsche and put Satan on the cover to add shock value and to appeal to the idiot crowd.

Man that's gotta be like the 12th time I've said that on this thread.
*Sigh* I did say i haven't gone through the thread because i'm rather busy.

Anyway, even if it is a rip off, if enough people believe in it, its still a religion.

Seen the sins? They're actually pretty logical... from what I remember. It's been about 3 years since I've read them.

OT: You're closed minded too. You can't seem to understand her music and beliefs when you shout about her not understanding yours. Maybe if you spent the time to learn about her belief you can either win an argument or stop an argument. But, people will always argue they are right, if I were you I'd either fight tooth and nail to be right or just not bother.

'Do as I say, not as I do' I think this applies pretty nicely to your situation.

I'll put it to you to go away and read some Nietzsche. LeVey basically just ripped his ideas and writings off and put a big neon SATAN! sign on it to attract the idiot crowd.
Everyone, by this point, is building off everyone else's ideas. Computers were invented by Alan Turing long before anyone had an actual computer. The wheel is still being refined long after the first hairy person figured out how well it worked. And so on.
So you compare Computers and the wheel to a pointless pseudo-religion like Satanism? If not that's a pointless comparison to throw around.

He ripped off Nietzsche and put some mumblings about Psychic vampires in it. That's hardly a cultural revolution.

I'll get round to your other, rather lengthier post when I've got the patience.
DathWampeer, you seem to be familiar with old-school philosophers, but you seem to be incapable of being open to different ideas, and thinking about them enough to actually see that, sometimes, stories have important symbolic value behind the literal junk. So, I would like to pass on a lesson from somebody who is one of my favorites, and hopefully one of yours as well.

I've read them. Logical? I suppose. But the pretentiousness they convey doesn't agree with me, though I assume they're written like that on purpose.

And yes, I did do that.

Rather ironic that pretentiousness is one of their sins then. But yeah the whole 'Don't forget past orthodoxies' thing is filled with the feel of their own importance. The problem with them being logical is that it's all common sense.

Satanism mustn't be for you or me then.

He ripped off Nietzsche and put some mumblings about Psychic vampires in it. That's hardly a cultural revolution.
Religion is defined as:
-noun
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.

3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
6. something one believes in and follows devotedly;
a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.
7. religions, Archaic . religious rites.
8. Archaic . strict faithfulness; devotion: a religion to one's vow.

The highlighted points make it clear it's an actual religion, and your snotty "pseudo" is your prejudice showing through.

I never said it was a cultural revolution, but ideas change, refine, reform, show up again in vampiric clothing, get forgotten, show up again in a new edgy form, and so on. If we weren't constantly questioning and changing things we wouldn't be the delightfully eccentric race we are today. Also, as has been pointed out to you, Nietzsche was hardly the first to have those ideas, he was just the most well-known spokesman.

I'd bother more with this argument but I appear to have lost patience with the fact you prefer to inanely repeat yourself rather than exploring the idea, hence why we're going to quit arguing right about now since we're not getting any further in the discussion and I'm increasingly concerned it's going to devolve into base insults. From me, if not from you.

I'm aware of the consequences of my actions as I'm not a 5 year old.

I leapt straight to the afterlife part encase someone was going to waste their time telling me about them. If I had already established that I was aware that "All choices have consequences" I wanted to take out the afterlife side aswell.

You know keep all my bases covered, I don't want people to waste their time or for me to have to respond in a pointless conflict.
Who said anything about being a 5 year old? Although now you bring it up in that delightful fashion, it does seem to leave room for some extra maturity to grow on you.

If you'd prefer to head off the afterlife discussion, a simple "If we're referring to consequences in the afterlife, I don't believe in them, so could we please keep them out of the discussion" would suffice rather than leaping down the metaphorical throat of anyone you suspect MIGHT bring them into play.

Also, considering you've ended up in a pointless argument anyway, I'd suggest your technique needs refining.

I wouldn't join Scientology either then. Much of their text is common sense dressed up in alien clothing, and they charge an absolute fortune for it.

At least with Satanism it's a mere $200, not "give us all your money for pretend therapy".

I'm very flattered, but Sir Francis Bacon was the one who came up with it, not me. I was simply relaying a lesson which I found very valuable as a younger student.

It pisses me off to no end when someone of a different point of view is ignorant and judgmental towards you. Honestly, there's nothing worse than the frustration that comes from this.

For example, my mother somehow can't understand no matter how many times I tell her that Satanism has nothing to do with Devil Worship, or even the Christian idea of Satan. She constantly criticizes me for listening to metal, she's even tried to claim that it's not music - just because it's not "relaxing" or "happy" sounding like her fucking Gospel shit that she insists on playing 24/7 because it gives the house a 'Spiritual protection'.

Honestly, I can't stand people who judge something as negative/bad because: A. They're not used to it, or B. Because they don't like it.
Way to not be open minded about their opinions.

Dick.

I haven't ended up in a pointless argument, you're the one who quoted on my original comment. You don't like my "techniques" don't quote me.

I'm perfectly good at arguing and discussing, I don't need your judgement or suggestions on how to better myself in the fields.

I come off as aggressive alot, I don't mean to it's just how I am.

Also funny how I'm currently through the systems of PM's in a very good discussion with someone from this thread on very similar topics so clearly the problem here is 100% me.
I'll freely admit that I'm getting grumpy, considering it's 8am and I haven't slept yet. I'll also freely admit that when I get grumpy I get intolerant.

However if you're aware you come across as aggressive (and from the last few posts, I'll admit you're coming off that way to me as well), then why not take some suggestions on how to come across in a more open way? /curious

People always annoy me with the "Satanism isn't Devil Worship" argument

If that's the case, mr. knowitall, why the FECK did you call it SATANISM?

It's what I've been wanting to say for the last 5 hours but haven't been able to put into words. (Although I've picked many others that approximate what I want to say, but not what I feel about the issue :/). Hence my new-found adoration for you :D
