DathWampeer, you seem to be familiar with old-school philosophers, but you seem to be incapable of being open to different ideas, and thinking about them enough to actually see that, sometimes, stories have important symbolic value behind the literal junk. So, I would like to pass on a lesson from somebody who is one of my favorites, and hopefully one of yours as well.

"Read not to contradict and refute, nor to believe and take for granted, but to weigh and consider." -- Sir Francis Bacon
This^^ A hundred times this!!!

TheVillageIdiot13... I think I'm in love with you.
I'm very flattered, but Sir Francis Bacon was the one who came up with it, not me. I was simply relaying a lesson which I found very valuable as a younger student.
It's what I've been wanting to say for the last 5 hours but haven't been able to put into words. (Although I've picked many others that approximate what I want to say, but not what I feel about the issue :/). Hence my new-found adoration for you :D
Yes. People bump into a lot of interesting life-lessons and important values if they study under the same teachers which I was lucky enough to have as a child.

People always annoy me with the "Satanism isn't Devil Worship" argument

If that's the case, mr. knowitall, why the FECK did you call it SATANISM?

This is the only answer to my question that makes sense.

Satanists be trollin'
My earlier post here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.232022-Intolerance-and-Judgemental-thinking-SO-FUCKING-ANNOYING#8143952] explains the thought process behind naming it Satanism. The excerpt is:
This [http://churchofsatan.com/Pages/BBWelcome.html] is from LaVey's consort, Blanche:
"If you're new to Satanism, or simply curious, perhaps a brief discussion of one of the most common questions might help you to better understand what this site is all about. Why call it Satanism?

Dr. LaVey has answered this question many times in his writings and in interviews but, apparently, it's a tough concept for some people. It is usually accompanied by, "You know, everything you say makes a lot of sense. But that name, 'Satan', is a real turn-off for people. Why don't you just call it 'Humanism' or something- you'd get a lot more followers."

Of course, the first point is, we don't need a lot of followers; we need more leaders in society in general and Satanism is a philosophy of leaders. That's the glib answer. The more complete answer is that Satanists find more strength in images of defiance, fortitude against all odds and self-determination than we do in the image of the guy hanging on the Cross. We are sickened by the complacency, hypocrisy, prejudice, and self-righteousness that most conventional religions (including "Wicca" and "paganism" as they are currently defined) encourage in people. When my back is up against the wall, I'm not strengthened by Jesus' supposed martyrdom, or by the idea of praying and being saved, or of mooning over some glorious afterlife (so I don't have to take responsibility for this one). Satanists' scorn for such drivel is in our hard-wiring, and we could no more "give our lives over to Christ" than we could cut off one of our own limbs. The word "Satan" is the first hurdle to understanding what we're trying to get across. Question, challenge all things, especially what you've been taught about supposed enemies. Sort out the truth from convenient myths. Words are magical and potent- use them effectively."

Everyone does it, even you.

By the way... the 9 Satanic Statements:

1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence.
2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams.
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit.
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates.
5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek.
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires.
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual development", has become the most vicious animal of all.
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification.
9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years.

True, it has nothing to do with 'Satan, the Defiler,' and is more of 'Satan, Fuck You,' I can still see how a mother might not like the concept. Also, if metal music turned you to this, you are one hell of a tool.
All of those do seem to be saying "fuck christianity, the smart thing is to do the opposite" (not that I disagree with most of those statements), so I'm not really surprised his mother's so offended. Then again I'm sure she hasn't looked into it that far.

Truth be told that's how I've always seen Satanism, not as an actual religion, nor one that literally believes in Satan, but just an immature middle finger to Christianity and often the way one's been raised. Sure you could abide all (most) of those rules simply by saying you do whatever you want cause there's no god, but labeling it Satanism seems like you want people to misjudge your every action.

It pisses me off to no end when someone of a different point of view is ignorant and judgmental towards you. Honestly, there's nothing worse than the frustration that comes from this.

For example, my mother somehow can't understand no matter how many times I tell her that Satanism has nothing to do with Devil Worship, or even the Christian idea of Satan. She constantly criticizes me for listening to metal, she's even tried to claim that it's not music - just because it's not "relaxing" or "happy" sounding like her fucking Gospel shit that she insists on playing 24/7 because it gives the house a 'Spiritual protection'.
Buddy, I could really care less what you do on your own time, but for the love of all that is clean and good, WHAT IS WITH YOUR AVATAR? I spent well on three minutes just watching it play over and over again in a state of disbelieving horror; seriously, what gives?

On-topic, I'm a Christian (note how liberal I am with that word in this case), and I really couldn't care less what everyone else thinks. As long as you don't feel compelled to go blow somebody up, I think we all agree that you're entitled to do whatever you want with your life.
*Stare at my avatar for 3 minutes*

I honestly don't see anything wrong/negative/bad about it, WHAT DO YOU MEAN "What Gives"?

Wow, that sounds irritating.

Being transgendered is like an endless stream of intolerance and judgment from everywhere. It's enough to drive a man to the brink of madness, really.

So I feel ya.

Honestly, I can't stand people who judge something as negative/bad because: A. They're not used to it, or B. Because they don't like it.
We all have a right to do what we'd like.

That doesn't mean somebody else can't think differently about you and your ideas. They may not think they're so bloody wonderful, especially when you're doing the exact opposite of what they find "good".

What you're angry about is people not admitting your ideas are right and their own are wrong. Your beliefs are (almost deliberately so) polar opposites to your mother's, it seems, so it seems like you put your foot into the bear trap on that one.

I tolerate other peoples' opinions. I'm not going to attack them for their opinions nor will I disrespect them. But I don't have to put a smile on my face and say I agree with them. And if they ask me why, I'll tell them.
I know what you mean, usually I have a good amount of restraint when it comes to things like that.

But when my mom comes into my room ALMOST EVERY DAY complaining about my choice of music and religion, it's gets annoying after a while. And she's even tried FORCING me to be Christian (Remind you of the "HOLY" crusades?) by SHOUTING the Bible at me hoping I'll have some 'Divine' spiritual revelation and convert to her religion and go to church with her.

Honestly, if you were in my position, you'd have lost your restraint by now too. And it's just that nearly ALL the religious people I meet have ABSOLUTELY no problem with me, up until they find out I'm a Satanist (Because they AUTOMATICALLY associate me as some Devil worshiping Human Sacrificing lunatic).

I've talked to the Door-to-Door Bible Thumpers a few times, and they generally know NOTHING of being respectful. As soon as I mentioned I was a Satanist, one of the guys (who was a HUGE douche) IMMEDIATELY started attacking me; saying I needed to be saved or I was going to hell because I didn't give my life to god. He OPENLY criticized me, thinking he was RIGHT, and that I would have some revelation, and buy a bible.

Way to not be open minded about their opinions.

Dick.
Way to not be open minded about others positions, and understand that some faggots just can't grasp that someone could be a Satanist; and constantly try to convert them and bash them for their opinions and choices.

Yea, but I'm not the one complaining about people's lack of openmindedness and intolerance.

Strangely enough, when you deny flaming, it's probably best not to tell the other bloke to 'gtfo'. In the same vein, I wouldn't try to claim to be open minded and use the term '******' in the same sentence.

Really though, it's human nature to try to convet others to our ways of belief because it makes us feel more secure in our own ideas when surrounded by like minded people. Most of my friends are heavily athesist and I constantly copp flack for being a christian, together we, athesist and christian alike made fun of the one girl who claimed to be 'pagan' while refusing to elaborate what that meant and she, in turn, poured crap on me for being a carlton supporter. Not everyone will agree with you and those who don't will try to convince you; this is true for every type of point of view on the planet. So stay calm, debate the opposition rationally when you can, shrug it off when you can't and only start to worry when they break out the noose.
hope that helps.

Exactly what it sounds like! Are you seriously telling me that you don't find something horrifying/entrancing about the sight of a man with no hands repeatedly gouging out his own eyeballs, thus creating two incredibly high pressure streams of blood and two steadily oozing stumps? Because I, for my part, think it's pretty frikkin' weird, yet paradoxically beautiful; like a train wreck, to use a somewhat tired comparison.

Well, if it's beautiful, then what's wrong with it?
