Invasion? Over here? What, the gigantic body of water 'tween us and any potential threat not good enough anymore?
Well, I'm scared now. Let me think... I'm not particularly well versed in American politics, nor their general attitude towards Australia, so although I'd prefer to have them FIGHTING with us, I'd be more inclined to TRUST the UK. Still, those resources would be nice...
Maybe we could just become neutral?

The French as they've faught in every major conflict the worlds had, also they have a good military or the Sweedish as they have a good military too.

Not the US, as they've only one 2 of the worlds major conflicts and the second they had to come in at the end to help and glory hog like they single handedly won the war. Other than that they've mostly lost their wars against developing nations or farmers.

My country doesn't own any valuable resources or significant industry, has a small territory and is not a sacred place for any important religious group, so who would want to invade us in the first place?! If by any chance that happens, because of the same reasons I don't believe anybody would give a damn to intercede apart from humanitarian organizations.

I think the U.S.A would fit the bill. Might as well put all those tanks/jets/battleships to good use.

And no, there will be no pie at the end. Cheapskate Sam will give us C-rations instead.

The UK isn't a country... There are 4 countries there. U are cheating. America however can come to our side any day being that u are many!
The United Kingdom IS a country... I dont really want to have this argument again and I would appreciate it if you believed me but as that is often quite unlikely... be warned the last time this argument was had, I won.

History of American-Mexican relations you say?

Pray tell, are you speaking of the Mexican-American War, sparking by 2,000 Mexican troops crossing into Texas and killing or capturing a 70 man patrol of United States dragoons?

Or were you speaking of the actions of the United States during the Franco-Mexican War, where the US supplied arms and ammunition to Juárez's troops, forming a blockade to keep the French from landing more troops to help prop up Maximilian, demanded that France withdraw all troops from Mexico and protesting to Austria about Austria volunteers fighting for the Imperialists?

Back to the topic at hand, I'd pick Canada (our closest friend) or the UK for help
America took Texas from Mexico first.

I am an American of the United States, and I would choose The Republic of France to aid us.

Fuck y'all with your stereotype of the French having a piss-poor military. They've got a damn effective one, and the only reason this stereotype happened is because of a certain headline.... oh.... what was it......
[HEADING=3]FRANCE DEFEATED BY GERMANY IN WWII[/HEADING]
Which was basically..... Oh, what was it...... That's right! A SUCKER PUNCH! And even THEN the citizens of France were so patriotic and courageous that they formed a resistance and fought back!

People with THAT much fight in them are exactly the people I want covering my back should my country be invaded.
How was it a sucker punch? For nearly a year after the war started France had time to build up a military and defenses before Germany attacked... and they lasted what, a few months? not even that much? Sure the french resistance was cool but in the end they fell far too quickly.
"Far too quickly"? The Nazi's had one of the largest and most professional armies in the World. France got the full, concentrated force of it. France had actually built up the "Maginot line", a mass of defensive fortifications (which had been there since WWI) facing Germany. The Nazi forces managed to maneuver around it (delivering one heck of a sucker punch) and the French took massive amounts of casualties within only the first couple of weeks. France and Britain got thoroughly battered by the Nazis and Italians, hence France's surrender after several months.
Excuses. It's their fault they failed to properly prepare for any type of invasion. They just let the nazis maneuver around it? And after a year of preparation they shouldn't have had too much smaller an army than Germany. I'm not saying 1 on 1 that France should have won, but as quickly and easily as they fell? And I knew about the Maginot line, but that isn't much help when you can just walk around it now is it? Yes I know it wasn't that simple but France really should have seen it coming. There's no excuse why after one year of building up defenses your country falls after 2 or 3 months. I wouldn't call the German tactics a sucker punch, I would call it common sense. Or stupidity on Frances part, you be the judge. Why pass through the enemy lines when it's easier to go around. France has been a joke since Napoleon in my opinion. They did okay in WW1 but were extremely close to falling early in the war even then.
Watch some history vids plz. The germans did a bold gamble that the french could never have predicted (blitzing through the ardennes) using innovative tactics that went against the conventional vision of warfare of the time that was based on ww1.
They hit with maximum force at a weak point in an attack that could very easily have gone wrong(the german leaders did fear their tanks would get bogged down) and shown the world how terrifying tanks on a blitz can be.
What seems "obvious" and "common sense" to you now wasn't the case back then, the germans pioneered a whole new way of making war and the french were pretty much screwed the moment they decided to advance into belgium (in effect this made them trapped when the blitz came from the ardennes) along with the brits.
It's easy to say "Why pass through the enemy lines when it's easier to go around" now that we are well in the age of mobile warfare, but back then such mobility and speed was unheard off.

That you say "And after a year of preparation they shouldn't have had too much smaller an army than Germany" so matter of factly shows the depth of your ignorace, no further comment is needed here.

Meh I really hate this anti french vibe on the escapist. There are SOME decent posters here who seem to know their history and think of french as more then mere stereotypes, but the overwhelming majority here.... Bleh.
I have some french blood, my grandfather and great granfather went above and beyond the call of duty in ww2(not that any of you would care, but their stories would have made Band of brothers pale in comparison), it really annoys me how many of you love to dump on them.

/rant over but meh, this is the main reason I dont wanna get more active on the escapist, a lot of you really strike me as bigots who act all intellectual but really just recycle common stereotypes and opinions that have been spoon fed to them.
It isn't the case for all of you, and I really should avoid any history/country thread cos theres always some france bashing going on in them but meh, I do like history ¬¬

On topic: I consider myself english first and foremost, country I'd like to see by our side would be germany, they know how to get things done.

Edit: <3 you portal maniac, its so rare to hear that from an american

yea collateral is a ***** err if we aussies were invaded by the demons to the north aka phillipinoes id hope the USMC would come down for some field training :D
What? why would the philloes wanna invade Australia? or do you mean Indonesians? Cause theres some anti-west sentiment in south east asia, But its not really that big that they'll be coming any time in the near future.

OT: ANZAC ALLIANCE until the end the days! But i think i should pick another cause this is kinda a given. So um... CANADA! without Canada and the anzacs whose gonna spearhead British attacks and do so well as to leave everyone behind.

Its a redundant question, the only war that will ever be viable between the worlds most developed countries will be a cold/economic war. Of course there may be *relatively* minor spats i.e The Falklands war (and I know people that fought in and lost friends in that so don't think me unsympathetic) but the idea of world war is a thing of the past. Welcome to the world of mutually assured destruction.
Sadly, you're wrong. Depletion of natural resources and (currently) insufficient investment into renewable energy will assure us of a real world war this century.

None. Israel always fights by itself. The most we've ever gotten is equipment from the States, and even then we had to pay for it by training America's elite units in exchange.

I would go for Russia, I know I'm over idealistic, but maybe they will jump in this time. Or maybe even China, we are in very good relationship with them.

You forget who sent planes to help you in liberation wars, if there wasn't SFRY you would still be under Arab authority.

Hmmm. Turkey.
I'm Polish and Turkey was the only country that never accepted Poland vanishing from the map of Europe (for over hundred years). I guess generations of fighting each other got us closer than any alliance or peace triety.
Thanks guys :).

Norway I think. Because if Sweden was invaded it would probably be by Russia, so Finland would be gone already, since they would have to go through Finland to get to us.
I'm not so sure about the part with Finland:
Yes, I know. But what I said was that for Russia to get to us they'd pretty much have to go through Finland, so Finland would have to be defeated first which, as you pointed out, is quite unlikely to happen.
