Ok, I know that the proper response is to wail and scream whenever prices go up, but I have to ask, is $10 a year really that big a deal to anyone. I am referring of course to the Xbox live price hike.

$10 a year, that?s $0.83 a month, you can?t scrounge up that kinda cash, really? $10 means that if you account for inflation, you are paying almost exactly the amount that you were when Xbox Live first launched in 2002 ( http://www.measuringworth.com/ppowerus/result.php ), and for a much better product.

And I know that many people will point out that PSN is free, and that it?s the same as Xbox Live, and I had a response to that, but I can?t say it any better than Tycho http://www.penny-arcade.com/2010/9/1/ .

Are people really that pissed off about a price hike when the company told us about it ahead of time and THEN pointed out that we can still buy plenty of $39.99 subscription cards? I don?t like the price hike either, but people are definitely blowing this out of proportion.

So say people stop complaining at $10, and instead start complaining at $15. Price jump'll be $15 then.

It's not the money, it's the principle of the matter. Xbox Live doesn't have enough overhead costs to justify increasing how much money we're paying for it.
And this.

This. The fact that the price increase is because of a bunch of worthless crap I don't want or need also kind of bites.

$10 gives me 3 packs of cigarettes. Yeah, it's a pretty big deal.

EDIT: I should also mention the fact that most people never use the extra features yet Microsoft uses them to justify the price and price increase. The fact of the matter remains, people are paying for multiplayer and not the ability to access Facebook through their Xbox. It's obvious Microsoft is just milking people out of their money and I refuse to pay for Live until multiplayer is free.

Act now and pay an extra $10 a year to listen to 12 year olds scream obscenities at you!

In terms of what people have to pay per month for an internet service to play games online, if someone is butthurt over an extra $10 over the course of 12 months then the next 40 years worth of technology/cellphone/internet/tv advancement is going to hit them like a hammer to the teeth. They might aswell get the old monopoly board out and sit it out in a cave.

People like money, and people hate spending it. No matter how small a price change can be, people will complain about it. It's life, really.

No. No it is not.

Then again, I have about $300 a year of no-strings spending money, with no major wants to spend it on.

Let me hail from the poverty side of the interwebs here and say yes. I don't have ten bucks right now. Ten bucks is money I can put to all kinds of useful things and can't afford to lose.

No, the increase isn't that big of a deal. What most are bitching about is that it's $10 a year more to Microsoft. If Steam started charging extra for the ability to use the service they wouldn't have a problem with it. It's double standards and hypocrisy that some companies are ok to want to make a profit and it's wrong for others just based on what the rules of the "indie cred" movement says.

Xbox live is something that it would be very hard to live without. I'll pay 10 dollars more no problem.

Besides they sent me a coupon for 20 dollars off, so I came out ahead anyways.
