Is anyone else sick of Microsoft's exclusivity?

So yeah as the title suggests, I'm extremely sick of the Microsoft and their Xbox exclusivity bullshit. Obviously the most recent and still active example of this is Dawnguard. Now when I first heard about the exclusivity for Dawnguard I was pissed, but not surprised. This is not a new trend in games to have the expansions come out on Xbox around a month before PS3 and PC, but those expansions generally did come out around a month after, and in some ways it was a good thing because many of the glitches were fixed. Now Dawnguard came out for the Xbox on June 26th. Now, a month and 6 days later we don't even have word about when it will be coming out.

Now in some ways this may be a good thing, since the inevitable glitches have more time to be fixed. However a month should be a long enough time to get things fixed up. So I feel like all of us PS3 and PC users have waited long enough for this expansion. Additionally the amount of advertisement for the game is getting obnoxious. Every other youtube video and every single Escapist video has an advertisement for Dawnguard, and yet only a third of the gaming population can play it.

So does anyone else feel as frustrated as me about all of this? Do you think we can expect the same bullshit when the next expansion comes out, since Microsoft has exclusivity for the first two Skyrim expansions?

As a PC user, I'm pretty much okay with this. I beat Skyrim a few weeks ago, and decided I needed a break from it, so I'm willing to wait a little longer. I've got LOTS of other games I would like to get through...

Also, as fun as Dawnguard looks, everyone know that PC gamers always get THE BEST DLC.

Personally, no, but then I own both a PC and a 360 and I don't give a rat's ass about Dawnguard so I'm not in a position to be pissed about it, or other MS exclusives. I agree that it sucks... but exclusivity is a big advantage in the console rat race and it makes sense that console developers will want it whenever possible.

The thing that you mention which I fully agree is obnoxious is that Bethesda won't announce when the timed exclusivity is going to end. I would imagine that they had some sort of agreement with MS on when that would happen, so there's no likely reason for them to withhold a release date unless they believe that there really is no such thing as bad publicity, or unless they're just being jerks because they can. If there's some other reason, I can't think of a scenario in which they'd have a sensible reason not to say what it is.

No, I don't care. I heard only of Skyrim and COD. Well for me in COD is ok since it gives you more time to play without being kicked out because you don't have 2 maps. In Skirim, well I will buy it for xbox360 but until they release the game of the year edition and I am really doubting, I'm not really excited about that game, don't know why.

I see nothing wrong with it, every platform has it's own exclusives why not the 360? Atleast most of the stuff on 360 comes to PC or PS3 later.

Atleast MS isn't strong arming Bethesda unlike many XBLA indies with their 3 months exclusivity BS

Xbox exclusive anything is completely outclassed by all the PS3 exclusives. Uncharted, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, that one zombie game I can never remember the name to? There's a lot of others.

Also, PS3 has month-early stuff on battlefield, right?

If you are pointing the gun at MS as the culprit, remember that exclusivity contracts take two parties to agree to be exclusive on a single platform. Personally I don't care, but I rarely console game past my PS2/Wii having the luxury of Steam.

What I think is whack is when game companies hold off on the PC versions to get a big chunk of market share on the consoles; makes me think that they aren't putting enough solid content and trying to milk the community for what they can (EA).

Yes, that's pretty bad too, but even though my attitude towards Bethesda is at best grudging tolerance and worst utter contempt, I'll admit they've been pretty fair and reasonable with their DLC.

I am much more disheartened by the awesome exclusives the PS3 gets. DC Universe, a free to play mmorpg, White Knight Chronicles, a few Tales games, Journey, Uncharted. They got some badass titles while the 36o is stuck with shit games like Gears of War, Halo and such.
You're right. Bioshock and Mass Effect were terrible games.

I'm not upset, Sony does the same crap. I'm a pc guy and I would rather let the console players beta test for me while I play a thousand mods. Skyrim on console = you're doing it wrong.

Bioshock was an XBOX exlusive?

(Not a great game though, I would actually say it borders on terrible, but that is just my opinion).

For a year, it was, in the same way DC Universe is considered PS3 exclusive. Bioshock was first released on the 360 and PC, then came to the PS3 over a year later.

If you don't want to accept that as exclusive, though, I understand. Just replace Bioshock with Dead Rising.

I have a pc and ps3, so no dawnguard for me. But from what I've heard of it, it's not worth the price, even if it would be good for a lower price. I don't plan on getting it though.

Aside from that, I still have so many games to finish anyway.
-Kingdoms of Amalur: I'm not even past the starter area's yet, barely getting into the story.
-Skyrim normal: I usually get side-tracked VERY easily with side-quests, so I'm not that far into the story yet either.
-Mass Effect 3: I'm doing another play-through of it, and want to finish it.
-Dragon's dogma. I only got like half-way, if that so far.
-Orcs must die 2: It came out a few days ago, and though I don't want to 'finish' it it's pretty fun to play.
-Borderlands: No need for me to finish it either, but I do want to get further than I am now. (damn steam sale tempting me to buy it. :p)
-Warhammer 40k Space marine: I'm close to finishing, so...yea.
-GW2: Will be coming out in a month...and it will be taking up a LOT of my time for the first month or two at least.

So yea, still plenty of games for me to play. So exclusives and such really don't bother me.

What?
I see more 360 ports to PC than anything.
In fact, the only exclusive game I wish they would have released on PC was Shadow Complex.
Beyond Gears of Wank and Halo, I cannot think of anything high profile that is still MS-exclusive.

What do you expect? Exclusives are one way companies try to make people buy their console.

As soon as I read the title I thought of Dawnguard. Yep. I'm pissed. Sucks even more that they have yet to announce an official release date for PC.

You, OP, who apparently own a PS3 and therefore are able to play Journey, a game which I would happily murder someone to play, have absolutely zero right to complain.

None.

I could go on to mention that every platform pulls this kind of bullshit. That's just how it works, it's not Microsoft specifically, it's the industry as a whole, and if you really think that Sony wouldn't have happily pulled the same shit if they had the opportunity you are demonstrably wrong.

But all of that is beside the point. Because you can play Journey, and I can not.

I'm not so much irritated by the exclusivity (I have a PS3, so I can't really complain about exclusives) as I am by the lack of information about Dawnguard. It certainly doesn't help that I'm still in school, so the majority of my peers own XBoxes. I say one thing about not having Dawnguard and they're like, "Well that's why XBox is better. Bet you're feeling bad by your console choice now."

Spoiler alert: I don't feel bad about the system I chose. People who think I do are either petty or just plain stupid.

I can explain to them that it's not because XBox is better, just that Microsoft paid Zenimax off enough to offset the costs of releasing DLC late for all other competitors, but they don't listen. Man, I hate my damn generation sometimes.
