This company has been annoying me for a while now. First they say that they are going to make a sequel to FF-XIII (a very linear and boring game) and now they are making the PS3 version of FF-XIV. If your not familiar with the name, it was a MMO that was released in late 2010 on the PC. It was also a fail. But that is not what's really annoying me. The annoying thing is that both of these games were considered worst in the FF franchise and yet SE insists on expanding on them instead of actually making an effort to release Versus XIII (A project announced 5 years ago). You see as far as I can tell, people are actually interested in Versus XII and yet nobody is told anything about it. If you have time to make an entire sequel and a port, why not complete what you started 5 years ago?

Yes, FFXIII is totally 100% the worst game in the whole series and is universally hated. That's exactly the reason it sold so many copies and still continues to do so. Because nobody likes it. Whilst FFXIV was an indisputable failure, FFXIII was a massive success.
But yes, they really should pull their finger out and get a move on with Versus XIII. They've been working on it for a while now, so hopefully it is released soon.

I haven't played a Final Fantasy properly since FFX, which was pretty good. FFIX was my favourite, and I've heard after 10 they just keep getting worse.

Best of all is that it doesn't affect Versus in any way. Multiple development teams you know? Might be because the FFXIV fiasco hit them pretty hard in the moneyclip. It's a lot easier to work with existing engines, artistic resources, voice talent, and programming than to create a new game straight from scratch. It's why you get a doof-ton of sequels from every other developer.
Though honestly, Square is pretty good about at least making every entry in the series something new, even the sequels (FFX-2, Revenant Wings, Crisis Core, etc). FFXIII-2 looks to be more of a direct sequel both story-wise and gameplay-wise to FFXIII, which is a worrisome touch of recycling that is, whether you like their recent games or not, uncharacteristic.

Yeah, it sucks, but they have to work with what they have you know? The guy who made Kingdom Hearts is also the guy who is making Final Fantasy Verses XIII. So fans have been pissed at him for abandoning Verses XIII to keep working on Kingdom Hearts game, and now that he's working on Verses XIII fans are pissed at him for abandoning Kingdom Heart 3. He's in a bad situation, it's sad that one of his games has such huge hype, and one of his game series is a massive success, he's kinda torn, but he's one guy, he can't direct two games at once. What was an in-depth, multi-tiered strategy game SE somehow managed to neuter into something that a 5 year old could play. It's no longer the spiritual successor to Total Annihaliation that Supreme Commander was meant to be, it's less than half of what it used to be, and it's happening to every game they lay their hands on including their own IPs.

QFT. Every installment has been turning the final fantasy series into less of a game and more of a movie, ie, you don't play them anymore. Final Fantasy XII used the gambit system, reducing it to a slow paced driving game while it played itself, and XIII didn't even let you control your other teammates. Add to that the characters in their games are becoming increasingly shallow and devoid of any kind of relational context, transpartent, pointless plots about...nothing(FF XII was about revenge, that's it. Didn't matter how many curveballs you threw into the plot. Remember kids, vengence is OK if you're wealthy). Final Fantasy has become a shell of what it used to be, and not an empty one. First of why do you assume he's American? Second their second largest market is the US. Third you don't end a game with a cliffhanger (KH2) only to delay said sequel into the abyss. Fourth FF13 was received badly everywhere, except for Japan.lasting_Child said:
