Is Borderlands worth it alone?

From what I've seen, Borderlands seems really fun if you play it four player with your friends. During this Halloween Steam Sale, it is only $5. I recently built a gaming PC, and very few of my friends would play it with me. Is it worth it if I'm going to play it alone? If not, is playing with strangers fun?

Thanks!

It's that sort of thing that alone is good and fun, but with company it's a true blast of fun :D

Imagine left 4 dead... anyone can play it and have a good time, killing zombies or just fooling around, but in the end it's the same thing over and over... with friends you can fool around more freely, talk, have company and better fun...

I found Co-op to actually be a detriment. people wanna do different quests, or move faster, or explore different.

The only thing i ever co-op'd for was the Raid-style boss Crawmerax, whom nowadays you cant find a group for, and is alost impossible to solo without cheater gear or exploits. =(

So, Solo is worth it, totally. Co-op if you got a good buddy that you play well with. And the DLC is AMAZING. Moxiedome not as much, but ZombieNed and and Knox and ClaptrapRevolution are awesome.

I just got it for my PS3, and I've liked solo play better so far. Part of that is that playing on a split screen is pretty crappy. But I also like going at my own pace and exploring a lot to look for more loot.

Speaking as somebody who has played Borderlands many times both on my own and with my brother I say that although Borderlands on its own is still good, there's probably better ways to spend your money.

I've heard that the PC version suffers from "Shitty Console Port Syndrome" though.

Hmmm. I didn't much care for playing it alone. Playing it with my brother was a blast. It just got very repetitive without someone else along for the ride.

I played Borderlands almost by myself, I did co-op once, and I had fun with it. It's slightly more challenging and the game does do a nice job if you are playing solo.

The plus side is you can take your time getting loot since you don't have anyone yelling at you to hurry up.

I'm still messing with it solo and it's fun as hell. First rolled Brick and it's fun as hell going Berzerk and decking the hell out of things.

That and, if what you said was true, its only $5. $5! You can get an awesome game for the price of some sandwiches, what's the risk?

As for playing with strangers. It's going to be a dice roll like any other game. You may get some guys who are cool and actually want to play with you or you may get people who just want phat loot and could care about the other people.

the first time I played the game I solo everything all side quest and DLC included for my 2nd play through I would randomly go online, for my third and fourth I went 100% online

every time I enjoyed the experience regardless of online or not the game is basically a wasteland FPS version of Diablo 2, which is all kinds of awesome

I played it mostly by myself. And it was great fun. Online multiplayer is a pain anyway, I'd recommend only playing it with friends. So yeah, get it. Try to convince some friends to get it, but it's worth playing alone.

I played it solo and had a blast. The only problem was a few quest that wasn't solo friendly, but if I managed to get through it I'm sure you can too. ;)

Maybe you could add a few Escapists who'd want to play with you? Maybe there's a Borderlands group somewhere? I dunno, but think about it sometime.

Yeah, alone it's still good. I lost interest about halfway through, but that was around thirty hours of gameplay (do ALL the sidequests). With friends it's fun, but sometimes getting everyone together is problematic enough.

There is indeed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Escapist-Borderlands] a group for it. So OP if you can't convince your friends to join at all you can try that one. Last update was in Aug. but still worth a try.

I enjoyed it. I never actually played the game co-op untill I had beaten it. I found the single player to be a lot more fun and challanging. With multiple people you are pretty much just steamrolling everything in sight even if it is several levels higher then you.
that honestly depends, bone head literally was one shotting me and my friend when we teamed up, depending on your weapons/choices.

we literally died 28 times killing that bastard,i probably unloaded roughly 30-40 clips into that bastards head area.

OT: i did it by myself the first time, was alot of fun all the same, the only advantage you gain with friends is obviously, lulz and better loot with friends, kinda like diablo, otherwise the game is still the same.

Alone is the only way I can play it. Mainly because the game uses Gamespy for matchmaking.

Seriously, Gamespy?

Yes, it is. I never played one multiplayer game, maybe due to Gamespy being a relic of the past that should be killed and buried deep beneath the sea, but I just never did. And it was still a very enjoyable game.
