It won't frustrate you much(f**k Maneater) if you are patient and learn enemies/environments.
Maneater isn't that hard, just wait till he lunges, dodge roll out of the way, and cast a few high powered spells at his ass. I beat him after 2 deaths.

(oh yes, moon grass and spices are your friends for that battle.)
I only died a couple times as well, I just don't like having to fight him in such a precarious area(I only died from falls). And that there is two of em. Once I got Firestorm(I think that is what it is called) he got a lot easier on my repeat playthroughs.
PFFt! Real men use soul arrow! =D
and smart men use poison cloud.

The 1/2 health thing isn't a bad idea (it's called soul form, by the way). It's only a bad idea if you have a very narrow and conventional view on gaming. If you go into the game and except to spend all your time in body form and see soul form as a penalty, then yes it is bad. But if you decide to view soul form as the standard and body form as a reward for a job well done then it is a very good mechanic. Most importantly though, you DO know that soul form has benefits over body form, correct? Your footsteps are quieter in soul form, so if you are a stealth-based character, then you will find it to your advantage to be in that 1/2 health form a majority of the time. Also, you actually take slightly less damage in soul form as well. Even further, dying in soul form doesn't fuck with your world tendency, which is quite an important aspect since it gives you more control over the game.
One more benefit to Soul Form is the fact that you deal slightly more damage. I'm going to agree that Soul Form is not a bad idea. In fact, I actually PREFER to be in Soul Form, ironically, considering I'm the "Juggernaut" type of character, or so I like to call it personally. It's actually just a vitality build created around the...uh...I can't remember the name of the sword combined from Demonbrandt and Soulbrandt. It's been a while since I've played, and I'm too lazy to look up the name. I like it better for the increased damage, mostly because body form only allows me to take more damage because of the whole health bar. The funny part is half a health bar is more than enough for me because I never get hit to begin with.

Edit: Northern Regalia. I remember now.

Ah, so I'm "assuming" things about you now, yes? I take "twisting your words" went out of style?

I know you didn't want to find a story since you refuse to believe what I am saying. If you didn't KNOW there was a story to find before I explained that aspect of the game, then how could you find one? You started off by insinuating that the game had no story, thus its only reasonable to conclude that you did not want to find a story because you were not looking for one. Like I keep saying: it tells a story in an unconventional way. It isn't a linear story. The game DOES have a story, and I'm sorry that you didn't play long enough or were engaged enough to notice it. It's outright nonfactual to state that DS has no story.

It's funny how much you assume about Demons Souls when you clearly know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about almost the entirety of the game's mechanics. You don't have to know anoyne in co-op to play. All you do is plant a blue soul sign and join another player's game as a blue phantom. Blue phantoms cannot pick up items, so you don't have to worry about hoarding: not that it matters... the only thing that really drops from enemies is grass and other crap (yet another indicator you clearly haven't played the game enough). And yet again you twist my words. Health is a reward, you don't want to lose the reward, thus you do better. It's ironic you accuse me of all these things yet you are guilty of them yourself. Please read one of my previous posts where I clearly outlined the other benefits of soul form. It's clear you've missed some things.

And again you twist my words. I said "some of the most visceral" combat... not the most visceral combat. "Some" implies that there can be games that have combat as visceral or more visceral than DS. Nonetheless, if the only game you can come up with that has more visceral combat than DS is a bona-fide action/horror game, then I think that is quite telling, yes?

And again, do we HAVE to go over this? The gameplay in DS is not drab. It's tight and highly functional. Like I said, that's something almost everyone agrees about. It has some great, great gameplay. And "drab" is hardly the words I'd use to describe worlds like 1-4, 2-3, 4-3, and all of world 5 and 3. Even the sort of generic mine and castle are still incredibly well done and atmospheric, just because of the rawness of everything. The Valley of Defilement is creepy and the Tower of Latria are both incredibly, incredibly creepy. The area where you fight the Dragon God is awe-inspiring, and there are some incredible views from the Shrine of Storms (it's a great constant against a world filled with undeads... it's quite well done).

All and all, you should play a game more before you try to shit-talk it on the internet. Maybe beat a game before you try to talk shit about it next time? Or at least put in a good 12 hours...

Is it so bad that I don't like a game and gave my opinion that I have to bombarded by you telling me my opinion on a game is wrong?
Just remember: just because it's your opinion doesn't mean it cannot be wrong.
