Personally, i think that halloween isn't much of a 'holiday' as it is really just an excuse for shops to sell lots of sweets and for the buyers of said sweet items to have them taken away from them by a bunch of beggers (or 'trick-or-treaters')

Whilst I agree whole heartesly with the above statement, I do love dressing up. In fact I am dressed as Pyramis Head whilst typing this. :D

We gave Trick or Treaters bourbon biscuits... they weren't best pleased...

I've never been trick-or-treating, and we hardly get any trick-or-treaters. My town is boring.

I think it's much more popular in America. Currently the most exciting thing that's happened this Halloween is the special event in Kingdom of Loathing.

Then the consumer industry screwed it up.
My parents do pray for the dead on that day, and that's much about it. we don't really do halloween from where i'm originally from, but let's be honest, it's a fun day right?

That would be the day after Halloween.

it was meant as a way to usher in all saints day, a catholic holiday, the day commemorates all those who have attained the beatific vision in Heaven, then the next day, All Souls' Day, commemorates the departed faithful who have not yet been purified and reached heaven.
then the candy companies decided that we should dress up as monster and give out/receive candy

Awesome. Can you upload a picture or something?

OT: Yes, Halloween is quite silly, but I don't really care. Nothing is happening around here anyway.

Seriously?
How many holidays do we "observe" thats just a [birth]day dedicated to some dead guy that we really dont care about?
This has just as much justification as those, plus we get to dress up and take stuff from complete strangers!

Here in America, all are dumb stupid excuses for holidays. They are just a time for stores to fabricate themes by which to hawk their overpriced goods, which is why i dont celebrate it. (I've been saying that to my mom since I was six years old)

Just enjoy it.

I like Halloween for the reason that candy becomes dirt cheap the day after. Halloween itself is only a slightly more interesting day than the normal day.
