Is Halloween a dumb, stupid, useless excuse of a 'Holiday'?

I don't get candy...So meh?

Mum buys food for other kids, but only 2 things so once you have like 2 of them it gets kinda old.

Personally I think it's terrible, I get no one to talk to, all my art friends are busy drawing there "halloween piece" and my GF is too busy trick or treating with her friends, plus there is a high chance of eggings, being in the UK.

Personally, i think that halloween isn't much of a 'holiday' as it is really just an excuse for shops to sell lots of sweets and for the buyers of said sweet items to have them taken away from them by a bunch of beggers (or 'trick-or-treaters')

You mean like Easter is celebrating the supposed resurrection of some Jewish guy by eating a bunch of chocolate eggs?

Or how we roast Turkey (UNT ONLY TURKEY!) for Christmas, put up a pine tree with tinsel and eat brussel sprouts to celebrate some Jewish guy's birth - even though he was more likely born in the Summer than in Midwinter [http://www.hcna.us/columns/x-birth.html].

So stop being a bore, dress up in a silly costume, go out and get chocolate/booze and enjoy yourself.

Because - frankly - life is too short to not do so.

Yaha, I spent all day today doing it. Not as good as it should be but for a days work I'm happy with the results. Also, can't do the topless with a skirt thing due to being female and all.

Fun fact: Easter was originally a Pagan festival known as 'Ostara' celebrating the 'birth' part in the cycle of life, the eggs and chicks that are associated with the festival are symbolic of fertility.

Halloween was originally the Pagan festival known as 'Samhain' celebrating the 'death' part in the cycle of life. By 'celebrating' I am not referring to it in the morbid sense, rather that the cycle of life is completed.

Then those darn Christians stole it *shakes fist like an old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn*.

It's like that with every festival. People forget what it's really about, and replace it with mediocre random bull. And the retail chips in, benefitting massively.

It was originally founded on the basis of you going to your dead loved ones and praying.

Then kids screwed it up.

In Poland that's what we do. Going to the cementary to clean graves, pray for the dead and remember them.
