Knifing is more fun/challenging. I don't understand how you can think knifing is cheating.
I got my wargasm through knifing on Aghan. Hilarity ensued for me.
I think it is really balanced because if you're within the view arc and running at them, you're essentially dead. The only way to really get knife kills is to approach from sides/behind and hope they don't notice you.

I don't see how it's really considered cheating.

Maybe annoying as hell but it's legitimate.

Its not cheating, its just fucking annoying. To be playing Modern Warfare 2 (emphasis on the MODERN) and seeing other players zooming across the ground and stabbing your entire team's guts out like they were Grey Fox on a caffine binge just sucks the fun out of playing.

nope not cheating only if he had somehow managed the commando thing without commando would it be cheating as it would be a glitch not part of the game play

however the listen server host is always a cheat

I wouldn't call it cheating. I think if someone with a gun decides to let you get that close it's their fault, or if you sneak up behind them then its more entertaining and puts a little spin on the game. That being said, the duel shotguns, you know which ones, are pretty close to cheating. They can kill someone across the map with two shots(one from each gun). That's not right lol

its not cheating while a gun wielder is more agile and faster he has no range etc. so its simply choosing to play as a diff class.

How is it cheating? Its a knife, youve got to get damn close to use it, if someone runs up to you and stabs you should have been looking out.

To me if a game lets you do it, it's not cheating. Simple as that. The strategy that you mention in the OP I wouldn't call cheating.
Beautifly put. I get so tired of online gamers on every single game from TF2 to L4D2 to Cod4.2 bitching about something every time they get killed by someone that was simply better than them in that instance. Can't we all get along.

You have to look at the big picture... "its in the game"... a glitch is in the game so stop excusing actual cheaters.

Knifing increases akimbo 1887s... a patch came out to lower the power and range of these... what excuse did they use before the patch? "Its in the game."

Using n00b tactics only decreases the fun for the new players and people who refuse to use n00b tactics, the new players are more likely to pick up n00b tactics and claim it is "skill" after the n00bs that killed them when they were starting out, laughed at them for having 2 kills and 20 deaths and saying they were crap because people were n00b tubing, camping and knifing.

EDIT: Is it cheating? No.

Does that mean you should do it? No.

Does that mean you can bully people who have less kills than you because you get cheap kills? No, and you should be reported for doing so.
Aren't you kind of bullying people be claiming that if they use a knife they are a (oh God, I have to say it don't I) "n00b", using some arbitrary, derrogatory term (in gaming at least) to describe someone you probably do not know in real life, or have no knowledge of how often they play the game or how good they are? Isn't that kind of ruining the fun for the person being called that, who isn't knowingly taking advantage of any glitch in the game that we are aware of?

I'm beginning to think everyone wants this game SO balanced that everyone leaves every match with the same amount of kills and deaths as everyone else, so nobody has to lose and get mad over it. I've blasted a shit-ton of people running around knifing, I don't see what the problem is. For the amount of time people spend complaining about every little thing in MW2, it's amazing that there are even people playing the game.

why people make up random "rules" in games boggles my mind. If the developers include some type of weapon that can kill your opponent, then that is what it is meant for. Use it, be happy, laugh at everyone that accuses you of cheating because you are beating them.
That's exactly my thoughts. It bugs me how people call me a dickhead for using the knife. I'm killing them, so I'm a dickhead anyways.

Exploiting any glitch in the game, or using an external program (hack) in a game is cheating. Using something that is in the game, no matter how you use it, is not cheating.

Lets think of chess.

If you move a piece while your opponent isn't looking, that's clearly cheating. We'll call this a hack or glitch. Most people use their pawns as punching bags and decoys throughout the game. We'll call this the knife (not normally used as a primary offense). But say you use your pawns to kill the enemy queen, or any other piece. It certainly isn't the normal use of them, but it is certainly allowed. This would be using your knife as a primary weapon in MW2.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I wanted to show anybody dumb enough to call this cheating how idiotic they are.

The knife is'nt a cheap weapon, now the model 1887 dueled, THATS a cheap weapon. Especially players who use it as a main weapon combined with the marathon perk.

For all the people that don't like knife wielding and camping.... stop whining that its cheating. I love to camp and love to snipe. Its part of the game and that is the way I like to play. That is like complaining someone is using a rocket launcher when you have a handgun.

Is it cheap: yes.
Is it effective: yes.
Is it unsportsmanlike: no.
