Is it just me or will American troops' stupidity never stop?

Isn't the thing about them kicking a dog off a cliff proven fake? I found another video explaining it a long time ago.

Being prior military, and a veteran I will just say that this was in poor judgement. Many people have made poor choices in life as well...and like them I would assume this soldier will have consequences for these actions. My commander would have never stood for this, and I imagine neither did his. There really isn't much more to say.

Yes, because these few individuals are fair representations of ALL of the people in the armed forces.

I read a lot of books on Iraq, a lot of US troops claim that whilst the British are good at gaining the support of the locals, a lot of fresh American recruits will act hostile towards foreigners.

This idiot proves that.

Not that Im claiming US troops are all bad, or even that our UK troops are all good. But the war would be a hell of a lot easier if the troops didnt fuck with the locals, that just raises support for the Insurgency.

Oh yes, why don't we judge 538,128 people by the actions of three?
Many of the people in the armed forces are extremely intelligent. That grenade most likely wasn't going to explode, it was almost certainly a fake.

Yes... If we think it's a bad idea, the only answer is naturally to sign up...

On topic: I honest to God don't see what's so bad about this clip. Comeon. He's a boy. Imagine you're him.
You are hanging about by these soldiers. They have guns. Remember what you thought about guns when you were small? Yeah, guns are cool. If there's a real gun, it's a little scary. But mostly, you're excited. Ever had a policeman come to your school when you're a kid? Did he bring a gun? Yeah, that was actually cool. Ever visited an army base? Yeah, that was cool...

This kid is intrigued by the soldiers. Soldiers are cool when you're a kid. They still are, as an idea. So he scares him a little, by showing him a hand grenade. I bet you 50 $ the kid is loving every minute of it.

This is nothing to get upset by. If anything, Id say this is even positive - soldiers being friendly and "playing" with the kid.

Well, thank you for your serving your country and protecting people(me!).
I have a tremendous respect for people who fight for the ideals of America. I even reserve a different sort of respect for the person who will die for their ideals in general. I just hate it when people use a good thing as an excuse to be a jerk. Like people who use Islam as an excuse to kill, or that jackass McArther who started the Korean war...
In general, though, there are a lot of jackasses who are troops, just as there are a lot of people who mean well. My impression from this board was that they were honing in on the particular group of troops who were also jackasses. Its a common logical fallacy.

The problem in Iraq is that the troops had no idea that the Iraqis had started to hate their guts after the first eight months or so; the Iraqi people were merely being polite up to the point that the culture as a whole began to downright dislike America. Cultural barriers can make nice people seem like jackasses, sadly.

Like any profession, military service has it's share of morons. Actually, professional military service may have a slightly higher concentration of morons than people are used to dealing with. I assure you, stupidity is not a sole product of the American Military, as there are stupid people in every nation and some non zero percentage of them join that nation's military.

My opinion is: we broke it, we buy it or fix it, and americans try to fix it first, only when nuclear war breaks out will we just buy it, cans i stops the metaphor now?

Throw a bunch of boisterous men in a scenario where boredom is inevitable and thats what your going to get.

Jokes.

That is true. I've been there, done that.

When you take volunteers to fill the ranks of the military, a few dunderheads are going to pop up every now and then.

I attribute the fact that we see more of it nowadays because it's easier for people to whip out a cellphone and record the event. Some dunderheads do it because they are proud of being morons in the military - and then stupidly post them to YouTube. These few isolated incidents get perpetuated over and over until it seems like the few dunderheads are the entire freaking Army or Marines.

I used to hang chuckleheads like these out to dry on a good day. On a bad day, being a jackass in the military meant you'd get no support from me (your First Shirt) ever again. Once is an error of judgement ... twice or more means you should be ashamed and should probably expect your superiors to give you the boot when you get home with no benefits. There's no excuse when you serve to act dishonorably, even if it is harmless. You wear that uniform, you represent a group of honorable people trying to do their job safely. Stuff like this just makes it harder and more dangerous.

Granted, Iraq and Afghanistan is extremely stressful and causing a lot of soldiers to have mental issues. What we need to do is recognize the problem and try to fix it, instead of giving soldiers a free pass.

That's the last straw...

Singling out American troops as stupid is absolutely the most mindless thing I've ever heard. Yes, the military does employ idiots... everybody employs idiots.

The only difference is that you don't see McDonalds employees on the news every day for something like burning a dog.

Scratch that, you do see the employee on the news, but they don't bring up the fact that they work at McDonalds when they talk about the stupid moves that they make.

I'm more than a little angry about this, because I have 3 friends in the marines, all 3 of them are in the middle east right now, fighting for Bush's stupidity.

I will not tolerate people talking bad about the bulk of our military over what an extreme minority of the soldiers do.
You, sir, have gained much respect. I quoted you, for I could not have said it any better.

Look, soldiers are stupid because Americans are stupid. A country's soldiers are a pretty good indicator of the average intelligence of said nation. And America, as we all know, isn't exactly swimming with geniuses.
