Is it justified to hate your parents for the same reason people say you should love them?

Just wondering, people say you should always love your parents because they brought you into life and without them you wouldn't be here.

Lets look at the other side of that, lets look at those who genuinely have no interest in life and hate it. We all know this life is far from perfect ... far .. FAAAAAAAAAAAAR from perfect, but is it justified to hate your parents for knowingly bringing you into this fucked up reality? especially if they know that your surroundings completely suck and will possibly result in you being miserable your entire life.

I know it's a pretty perverse thought but it's been bugging me, does anyone really have the right to feel that way? is it fair?

God no, anyone who acts like it's their parents fault for bringing them into a shithole of a world (which it isn't by the way, life is beautiful and more people need to realize that) is a whiny bastard.

You hit the nail on the head. Every time someone tries to tell me they have no faith in humanity, I no longer wish to speak with that person. It's a stupid, overly cynical thing to say.

Life isn't that bad and hating those who brought you into it isn't going to make it better.

Also, I think it's a pretty silly reason to love your parents just because they gave you life. Surely that's the least lovable thing they've done - how about the two decades they spent supporting you financially, teaching you the basics of life and shaping your values?

.... yes.
Thank you.
I can't add anymore to this than that.
Your parents aren't to blame. Life can be and is a beautiful thing. Just because you're an angsty teen doesn't mean your parents are to blame.

No, life is what you make of it. I don't mean that in a "anyone can make it in the world of they try hard enough" sort of way; I mean how you interpret life is entirely up to you. There is no reason to hate a person who gave you the opportunity to experience it unless they intentionally hamper the experience.

Unfortunately it seems as though being cynical is cool nowadays. Why enjoy life when you can actively seek out depression?

No it's not their fault you don't enjoy life and they had no way to think that before hand, life is wonderful and they probably wanted to share it with someone else, out of infinite possibilities they got you which is no reason to hate them

being pathetic. Life isn't great, and can be shit at time, but for one, that isn't your parents fault that things have turned out as they have. If you want to hate them for real reasons (abuse, neglect etc) fair enough. But if life has treated you badly, you can't use them as a scapegoat because things have gone badly

if you despise life this reality and the life you have it seems like a cop out to blame your parents, unless they have intentionally and callously tried to sabotage your life. other than that i would say that if your unhappy about your existence do something about it, either end it or improve it... 9/10 times no one else will do it for you.

likewise 9/10 times your parents and close family are the only people on this world that actually truly care about you unconditionally.

no one is responsible for your misery but yourself, all it requires is effort, unfortunately most people are either too lazy or, have too much of a narcissistic feeling of self entitlement, to do something about it, and instead they whine on an internet forum.

hate your parents if want, but if their only crime is procreation than your feelings are unjustifiable, even if you were born in a war torn region, which i doubt you are.

Why is it that, so often, a thread is so conclusively answered in the first post?

This. People need to realize that life really doesn't suck. Bad things happen, sure, but being alive is just so much better overall than being... not alive.

life is what YOU make of it. if you're unhappy with your life, do something to make it better. it may be difficult but your parents can't be blamed for your life sucking

Hey, I was moody and cynical before it became cool!

Seriously though, I'm fairly sure that the world isn't great, but I'm generally happy because I want to make it better. I ignore most moral beliefs in light of one - you have led a good life if humanity is greater because of your existence. That simple.

No, that's prepostorous, life is a beautiful thing and saying you don't want it is ungrateful.

Not your parents fault. They never knew their kid was going to be a big baby. I hate those people who have no faith in humanity.

....

Ic ould see why you could/would. say you're born a crack baby, thats a rather miserable life to be born into.

Now, gratned, the fact that you're born out of 3 million + other sperm is more a testament that you're the best of the best of the best (whether or not you think so yourself), and so ultimately the fact that you made it into this world is yours.

But could see why you would.

Bringing you into the world isn't a reason to hate or love your parents.
The 18 years after your birth, and how your parents act during them, are far more important than the fact your parents decided to "get it on" 9 months before.

Love or hate your parents based on how good at being parents they are, not on how good they are at procreation.

Damn, that nail had it's head hit rather quickly. Health and saftey may want a word with us fine fellows soon...

Anyway, I never really got why someone would blame their parents for their own inability to deal with life. I know life can be hard, but you'll never enjoy the pleasure if you've no pain to counter-balance the sensation. Pleasure would be a boring constant, otherwise.

Seems a strange idea to me. It's not like there's anything preventing one from abandoning ship.

Being grateful/angry for simply being given the opportunity to exist also seems a wee bit strange.
