Right, because that's how it works...

Anyway, since when has being a gamer equaled social retardation? Of course it's OK to be a gamer, I'd say the majority of people are on one level or another.

I've been gaming since I was a kid. I must have atleast 500 games overall, and several consoles to boot. Even so, I've never let my hobby stop me socialising. It's just another past time, it doesn't limit me socially. In fact, it's something that helps socialising in some cases; everyone has a gaming spirit in them.

Basically, don't let your interests hold you back. Then again, don't be forced into doing things you don't want to. Sure, I go to parties, socialise and game. Maybe that isn't what you want. Just do what'll make you happiest :D

I think the OP is onto something. Here's one of those repulsive "gamers" - actually, even worse, "pro gamers" - who should stay indoors and not bother the attractive people IRL.

more like she should stay indoors so as not to ruin that perfect complexion

This is not off track! You are right on. Insecurity isn't just a side issue, its the core issue. Listen, do you enjoy yourself? Do you have fun? Do you feel productive? Do you keep yourself healthy (eat well, exercise, sleep, etc.)? Do you have friends, either physically or remotely (hey, society on a less-traveling-is-good orgy right now, so who is to say that online communities are any less real, meaningful, or important!) And most importantly, are you happy?

If you can answer "yes" (or at least, "I'm honestly working on it") to all those questions, then who cares what you are doing? You are not hurting people, stealing, or whatever. You can be a complete friekophile gamer and still, say, invent something that makes the world a better place.

Enjoy your games!

Of course there's nothing wrong with being a gamer. I do think that it's important to be a little bit balanced and go out and socialize sometimes. Plus, in my opinion sitting in my dark room by myself playing games get's old after a while, and parties can be fun.

Barack Obama is an excellent moral lodestone. Every compass needs a south pole, so when Obama starts talking about what I should do, I confidently stride in the opposite direction, assured that my course of action is correct. That's the last time I ever vote for a Democrat---if McCain hadn't put up a brainless bimbo as his running mate, I'd have voted for him last year, and in the future, when Republicans put up loathsome people, I'll just stay home.

On-topic, you really have to ask? How about asking if it's OK to run model railroad layouts or watch ESPN or screw cheap sorority girl floozies? All are perfectly valid hobbies.

First off, your on a GAMING forum...do you expect a no?

Secondly, could that have been more insulting to gamers, seriously? You may not have the highest self-esteem but that doesn't mean you group the entire gaming demographic into pale fat weak 30 year olds who never go outside and only play games because they could never get laid and have no real friends. No seriously, I have a social life, I (not at the moment) have had a girlfriend MANY times, and I still consider myself a true gamer. Being Unsocial doesn't mean your a gamer, it means your just unsocial and hide behind gamers.

Also, people should go outside. I'm not saying give up gaming, but don't just game straight for 24 hours a day.
Wow chill. I have a fine self esteem, I fact I love being me.
If you love being you, why did you need us to tell you that your hobby is acceptable?

I went for a period of thinking games were just something me and my friends did and a few other isolated pockets. And then I just started to realise even though the media and TV shows put a negative spin on things a lot of people play them. I personally think gaming is going to become a lot more socially excepted in the future, and though you (and I) may/don't agree with the way they've done it we have a lot to thank the Wii for.

This is my 999 post, I plan to make no.100 pretty epic so it may be a while before I post again, not that long though (at this point I've realised the majority of you won't care but oh well for the one person that does, there will be one right...right)

Obama is a politic, and we all know how they feel about games. I don't care if it is Obama, I'm not conforming to someone who has absolutely no idea. Oh, and it's fine to be a gamer. I'd prefer to be a gamer than a muscle head anyway. And you know those stereotypes about gamers? FUCK THEM!
Dont stereotype yourself, you limit your self my dear.
gaming is fine as long as it doesnt control your life.

Take for instance my boyfriend of over a year. Not what people would call conventionally attractive at all,(I dont like larger than life egos, and most of the conventional looking ones have sickeningly large egos as they know they fit the mould) I can pick him up(he doenst like this :p),he spends a lot of his money on games, guides, books, bigger screens and better PC's,is a Dungeons and Dragons master, has an obsession with guns and makes machinema with his friends. Yet he also has a social life, a girlfriend and is in amsterdam right now.

you can do or be whatever the fuck you let yourself be!

LOL. All that lobbying by the pharmaceutical companies worked.

You already pay for my health care. Who do you think foots the bill when I go to the hospital?

Me?!?! LOL. No. You, and other taxpayers.

Obamas plan is to make health care cheaper and more available to everyone, so through preventative care I wouldnt end up in the hospital.

Is it easy? No. Are there tough decisions we have to make on the matter? Yes.

But anybody who thinks we dont need health care reform in America is completely clueless.

Oh, Christ. Shut up. I hate these god damned threads. Yes, people will make fun of you for not socializing. Not every girl falls for the hunky man with balloons for muscles. Using your physical condition as an excuse for not socializing is pathetic. And before people start ragging on me, I am by no means extremely muscular. Yeah, playing games once in a while is fine. No one hates you for it. If that's how you spend all of your time, then that's truly just sad. I was in your position once, get off your ass, and make some damn effort to socialize with people. It's really not that hard.

Yes, it's perfectly fine to be a gamer, I'm a gamer and I'm not antisocial at all, in fact I just got back from a party yesterday. Now why dose the outside world mock us?, well that's because they're a disgusting mass of idiotic, self important, parasitic sheep, racing to their inevitable doom, most of them probably wouldn't understand more complex games that involve anything else other then KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL! Sniff some cocaine KILL! KILL! KILL!, so why do they mock us, insecurity or just plain ignorance?, it doesn't matter, next time one of them dose, challenge them on what the fuck they've done with their pathetic lives and what the fuck they know about our art form to criticize it

In school I spend most, if not all, of my free time playing games.
Mainly because, aside from my friends, I couldn't stand 95% of the kids at my school. All of them the type of kid who's had everything in life spoon fed to them, and never thinks for themselves.

So, I made friends all over the world, friends that I already knew had a common interest.

YAY GAMES!!

My dear friend your post quite amused me. First of all this is a gaming website so I very much doubt as to the unbaised nature of the eventual conclusion you draw from the posts. I mean imagining asking Top Gear fans if they thought being a Petrolhead was bad.

On the plus side you have at least grasped the concept that life isn't fair and Obama is a twat. Gaming is becoming a more and more respected habit. Sure, it still retains much of its geeky image, I'm sure that some girls out there "dig" that. Try and find one.
