Is the world going down the shiter to never stop or is their light at the end of the tunnel?
Yeah, your generation is totally screwed, y'all should keep playing video games and feeling sorry for yourselves instead of doing anything about it.

Although, you should know:
1. WWIII is not inevitably around the bend, The only nations that could battle on a global scale are allies and the political landscape upon which global conflict has been historically built simply does not exist. So that's nothing to worry about.

2. Terrorism by its very nature is not enough to "screw" a generation. Terrorism / Guerrilla Warfare is a statement against the ability to take significant military action.

3. Nuclear Threats? It's OK, The cold war ended in the eighties.

4. National disagreements? I'm not sure soft wood lumber can screw a generation over... I suppose if it is a generation of lumberjacks...

5. Housing Foreclosures? Come on. Seriously? That's an American issue if anything, and only impacts people borrowing against their house or people who have decided to buy a house with no money. And then, only if they are high risk, which is not nearly as common as the headlines in the Times suggest.

So, after thihnking about that, no I don't think your generation is screwed...

Christ, what is the deal with you kids? Generation X was the super cynical and disillusioned and even they did whimper and whine as much.

Sorry, that was the sound of our generation being humped furiously.
In other, less creepy words, yes.
I disagree.
Oh yeah?
OH YEAH?!?
WELL!
...That is your right.
And that alone is a reason we are not screwed.
We live the safest, longest and most advanced lifes ever. And some religious idiots in a desert are not going to change anything about it, no matter how much your political leaders trump up their seriousness.
But you heard him! We don't have rights anymore.

Fair enough, though. I don't want to see how life would be after any sort of global conflict. Most people couldn't survive without technology.
Yeah but it's all for your own safety blablablabullshit. At least in europe not everone jumped the bandwagon when it came rumbling through.
And I have to agree that a lot of people would die if technology would disappear or be rendered useless by lack of energy. But mankind would survive.
But it'd take a long time and a lot of deaths.
Not that I'm complaining.
My personal estimate would be 4-5 years to drop the population to 3 billion due to riots, wars and general violent outbursts, starvation and lack of medical equipment.

Some of us are old enough to remember the 80s, when everyone was convinced the Soviets would be around forever, detente was the only hope, and Reagan was a dangerous maniac trying to destroy civilization. This modern stuff just doesn't cut it.
This.

Plus, we survived through parachute pants.

Parachute pants.

I don't think anything can destroy us now.

You're only really screwed if you truly believe you are...a little bit of hope goes a LONG way....especially in a recession.

Every civilisation falls, its a fact of life. 1000 years from now they'll probably be no america and no europe. It all depends on whats going to replace them. We're certainly not screwed as a race since we're pretty hard to exterminate but yeh 99% of the population is gonna get it eventually. Nukes, war, famine, climate change, plague, zombies. Something will kill off alot of people eventually. Maybe it'll be a combination of all of those things i just listed.

War causing nukes to fly, which change the climate causing famine and altering bacteria causing a plague that zombifies people.

One can dream.

I predict cults taking advantage of innate human stupidity would spring up on the day after the disaster.
The day after? No no. They already do that.

No, economic issues do not spell the end of times. Recessions always bounce back...great depression, 80's, and we'll come back from this one too.

My guess is that the next major war will be over oil and fresh water.

WW3 I doubt will happen unless something major goes down. As everyone has learned from past mistakes.
Terrorism has been around for ages, its just more sneaky now.
nuclear threats are small due to missile shields.
national disagreements basicaly comes under WW3.
Housing forclosers I have no idea what that is, sounds like real estate agents up in arms.

I'm sick of hearing about how much our generation is screwed and how this time is more confusing and messed up than ever. What I've seen over history is an improvement in general living standards.

The day after? No no. They already do that.
But this is specific cults dedicated to end-of-the-world stupidity.
People who believe it's divine intervention, people who want to pretend it never happened, etc, etc...
People who believe everyone elses purpose is for food or personal amusement (that would be mine)...

I agree that the cult-/tribecreation would be pretty fast, but not only from those innate. Everybody would be forced to either join a cult/tribe or die, simply because the "lone wolf" has no chance to a) survive encounters with hostile people and b) find/cultivate/hunt enough food to survive.

Don't look at the things affecting the generation, look at the generation itself.

...Scary, ain't it?

I mean, who wants to see ME in a place of power?
I don't know, Maby you'll be a great leader!
I'm sure you'll love my laws on population control...
Am I smelling a Dictatorship?
Better turn off my head then to face the consequences:
All hail Rock Avich!
I am now to be called General Rock Avich.

Not under my regime. You don't have any rights when I'm in power.
When did your regime topple my regime?
Was I drunk? I bet I was drunk.

You were slightly intoxicated, yes. You gave up your regime for some coffee and pancakes.

Those pancakes were on the floor in 5 minutes but you still ate them.
