It can be difficult if your 3D reasoning is poor. However, most people shouldn't have any problem, especially if they've grown up playing video games.

I think there isn't any difficulty in Portal, since difficulty in games is usually measured in the amount of times you are likely to fail. It's near-impossible to fail in Portal (except when acid, lasers or energy balls are involved), and the games are so well-tested that there is literally no chance of getting stuck for days. You might take half an hour or so to solve a room if you overlook an important detail, but the design, the layout, the lighting and the colours give you hints on what is important. It's so intuitive that you practically won the bet already, if you have no time limit.

Tis a fun game that has some hard puzzles towards the end, but nothing you'll spend too much time thinking about, you'll probably beat it in 2-4 hours

I was heavily inebriated when I got the orange box. For a long time I didn't even remember playing it, I did however remember having to take a shot whenever I failed a jump... not the best idea looking back.

So ya pretty easy in my opinion but I've always been good with logic puzzles and challenges.

Based on your grammatical skills alone, you can beat it. The ending is a bit of twitch game-play though, which is usually the reasoning behind all of the "Portal is hard" comments.

It's easy, especially if you mean the second part which is mostly focused around just noticing the single spot where you can put portals. There very little "intellectual" challenge in the game itself, and almost none manual skills are required. There usually just is one sweet spot, that once you notice becomes a clear indication on how to approach given puzzle.

Er which one?

The first one is short with relatively easy puzzles.

The second is longer with much easier puzzles.

Yeah, It isn't really hard.
All the solutions are quite simple and don't really need you to be quick as hell either.

No, it´s really easy, I only found one room hard(think it was third to last "real" test). However if you can't grasp the concept with portals it might be a lot harder for you.

You guys are making me feel ashamed that it took nearly 4 hours on my first playthrough lol. I'm just not that good with puzzle games and I wanted to go through 100% blind. Even though it took me longer than the norm, I can't say Portal is hard (though a fun challenge). Tricky at some parts, but the game provides such a good difficulty curve. The first half you can speed through as you test what Portals can do and then slowly ramp up specialized uses for those skills. Best example of a tutorial ever, mmhmm. And quicksaves also ease up potential frustration *cheap*.

I've heard some people say the same thing there. It might just be me who is weird, I guess. I wasn't stuck for more than a minute total in the first Portal game, everything just obvious to me. I got stuck a few times in Portal 2 though, I dunno. Maybe I'm just dumb. =(
Out of curiosity when you were stumped in Portal 2 was it because you didn't know how to solve the puzzle, or because you hadn't seen part of the puzzle? There were several times I didn't notice a particular wall panel instrumental to solving a particular puzzle, and without that my attempts all ended badly.

For example there is a puzzle near the end where Wheatly is moving things around, and you come across a platform with over a dozen turrets. You're supposed to portal over to an adjacent room and direct some bounce goo over to them - but I didn't see the one spot for putting a portal so I could get to that room. Instead I spent ten minutes trying to portal behind the turrets, jump onto their platform, and get behind them without falling to my death or getting shot at. It didn't work.

While Portal did emphasize putting portals in specific places I found it was much more freeform in how to solve the puzzles. Portal 2 had many areas where you had no real choice in portal placement, so as long as I saw those places I didn't have to put much thought into it.

The later test chambers are tricky, but 80% of the game is a tutorial for the mechanics, so you should have a good understanding on the mechanics by then. Your friend is an idiot for making this bet.

No, it shouldn't take you long if you have any idea about anything and don't have ham instead of fingers

It took me well over 10 hours to complete the first one, but I do like to take games slowly and look around at the scenery.
The crispy white insane asylum rooms? :p
Hehe :)

But seriously folks, there's quite a few little touches of genius in the test chambers, and lots of story related stuff squirreled away once you leave. It's not all white walls and companion cubes.

Well, the challenge of the game is usuaslly figuring out WHAT to do and HOW to do it.

The challenges generally don't revolve around implementing your solution - just having one that works.

Unless you are playing on an unfamiliar platform, or have serious issues figuring out how things work (Due to a pre-exisiting mental condition, I don't count low cognitive ability as a mental condition) you can beat this game.

Stupidity cant hold you back... too much.

No. Room 18 hurt my head a bit, but only because I forgot how I got in one of the rooms.

Portal 1? No, it shouldn't take more than 1½-2 hours tops. Portal 2? No, but it'll take a lot longer, in the range of 6 hours. I've yet to meet anyone who couldn't finish Portal.
