It's easy to see the problem with EA, in that when they snap up a company and put out a sequel to a franchise or a sequel to a great game, that game will invariably not be as good. here are some examples.
1. Command & Conquer Series: EA Wrecks the canon of the whole thing (as in Red Alert being a prequel to the Tiberium "saga") and then wastes our time with Generals. Ok yes, I liked Generals for the most part, but it wasn't the "Command & Conquer" I knew and loved. I wanted a resolution to TS, damnit.
2. Mercenaries 1 was great. Mercenaries 2 felt like it went by too fast and despite having an awesome level of destruction, it was marred by the really thick AI amongst other issues.
3. System Shock series. Probably isn't even being made anymore despite the rumors put forth over 2 years ago, but Ken Levine put it best that EA didn't give a shit when he came up with the plot concept for it, and also theorizes that an EA-helmed System Shock game would be a generic FPS with a boss at the end.
Granted EA seems to be making some changes and giving studios more autonomy in what they create, but the damage has already been rendered.
And as said before, EA used to be a company that did crazy innovative things that were awesome, like General Chaos for the Genesis. Now it's feels more like they just spit out sports sequels and acquire additional studios, and any game released that has EA's hooks in it rarely gets massive universal acclaim, making me feel like something just ends up missing from it.
That and the SecuROM bullpuckey
