Is the modeling industry representative of what men actually find attractive?

Diffn't strokes for diffn't folks. Some people actually DO like the way modles look. Look at all the pro-football players, actors, and millionaires that marry them for a few months. Many people don't though either.

Everybody is different men and women should just be theirselves and a mate that appriciates you for you will show up eventually. That being said if who you are is what a model looks like (and you're not endangering your health) than you have nothing to be ashamed of either.

None of those women who are supposedly popular in porn are people I would want to date or even sleep with.

Edit: Okay, possibly the second one. Maybe. Not really a huge fan of her face though, and I can almost guarantee that pic has been airbrushed to make it look better.
No, it hasn't, and you're missing the point. Look at their bellies. They all have the tiniest bit of chub in the abdominal region, especially the second one, which I find incredibly sexy. That's a phenomenon so prevalent in human existence that it has spawned slang terms ("the freshman 15"), and yet it is considered fat and disgusting to the modeling industry, and to women in general. Which is laughable. Because, big tits, small tits, fake tits, real tits, these women all have just a little bit o' extra jiggle, but to Ralphie (watch the video), they're morbidly obese

sorry but for that it would have to be Jenna Jameson and a few others but not those.

as for the modeling industry, the answer is yes and no. there are a lot that are way too thin but for the most part they are going after a certain look. there is a magic hip ratio and such that men to find more attractive than not.

tho there are some men that like different things in women, the vast majority go after a certain body shape in women, which is linked with better chances of reproduction. it invovles a hip to waist ratio, breast size and perkiness and a couple other factors

No I don't find walking eating disorders attractive especially not in the ridiculous get-ups they are forced to wear, and the photo shoots all create pictures that are almost as uncanny as the dialogue in Oblivion. This is just my opinion of the matter though.

I want to buy some of those models enough cheeseburgers to keep McDonald's shareholders rich for decades to come. For gods' sake, woman, EAT SOMETHING!

As for porn stars, I think Sir Mix-A-Lot said it best: "Silicone parts are made for toys." And the tattoos, ugh, the tattoos...

Most women I find attractive, most guys would call "fat" because they're big-breasted, bubble-butt, a little padding from their love of their own great cooking. Y'know, real women. If they're shorter than 5'4 and cute-faced, so much the better.

Define "big breasted", but other than that, I think you're so close to what I like, it's almost creepy.

I don't really have a skeleton fetish, so I'm going to say no, the modelling industry has missed the point in my case.

That's a myth, brother. The overwhelming majority of heterosexual men disagree with what homosexuals Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren think a woman should look like, and we disagree with each other quite a bit. Look at my avatar. Do you think she's hot? Does she have this mystical waist-to-hip ratio? How about Anna Nicole Smith when she was the most popular playmate ever, with her extremely wide hips and not much narrower waist? Is it Jenna Jameson? She's certainly stayed in shape but she also eats, and those nosecones are far too inflated to be a model.

Men do largely agree on some things. We generally prefer a bit of a bigger butt, most of us don't like women to weigh 300 lbs., we tend to prefer a woman who takes care of herself and likes to look good, mostly we're suckers for that girl-next-door look. But there is no common thread as to what all of us like, though there is a common thread as to what the overwhelming majority of us can't stand: bulimia and ribs.

I heard once of a model who was photographed once with *gasp* a little roll of fat on her belly. Apparently, the photos were immensely well received, and the magazine in which they were published was sent hundreds of demands for more of the same. Needless to say, the model's agency told her not to lose any weight...

If there;s something that universally represents that which mind find attractive then we have reached either:
-A world in which men are controlled by a hive mind.
-A strange dimension where only objectivity exists and subjectivity is unheard of.

Well, I believe in individual thought, so I can't speak for all men. But personally, super-thin, strung out, half-zombie women who are airbrushed and makeup-ed to oblivion aren't my bag of tea.

If I can't have a normal conversation with someone, I lose most interest.

Sadly, I think that porn better represents our taste in women than high fashion or Hollywood - yet women and young girls alike model themselves on Ralph Lauren and cinema.
I think the OP could be right.

Of course you have to be damn careful with this comparison. For instance a lot of mainstream porn models look rather like fashion models and are heavily photo shopped like fashion models. Also, some of the fetish stuff is, well that's a matter of individual taste. Speaking though, in general terms, i think the point still stands. I think 4 Chan's "sexy beautiful women" board is a good indicator of what men like. After all, that is where ordinary guy's post pics of women that they themselves like.

Really, the fashion industry doesn't have a clue what men want. That is because it's run by homosexuals and women. I think most men, when choosing a partner, don't choose partners entirely on how they look. To most men, women sure can be eye candy, but that doesnt mean they would want to go out with them. Most men put personality and other features first before looks. I think this is one thing the fashion industry gets confused by.

Skeletal and plastic. No thank you. Motivational poster once said "Curves: If I wanted to have sex with someone who has the body of a 12 year old boy, I'd have sex with a 12 year old boy". And it's so right. Models need to get some meat on their bones, not just silicon.

The problem is, modelling in general (in any media) shows a certain image and puts it forward as what people should want. Impressionable girls see this and believe this really is what the average man wants in a woman. Impressionable guys see this and think that this is what they should really want, so when they meet the impressionable girls who also bought into the image they think they should want eachother. They are then seen together, and people think it is just like the media said, so it must be right. I mean, it's exactly as the media showed, so they have evidence to back it up! And so the cycle continues..

Personally, give me a great personality, cute face and nice eyes and I'm happy. Body shape is totally optional. Only when it's visibly affecting their health and lives do I draw a line at body shape, at the upper and lower limits. Few people want a stick, just as few people want someone too large to move from their chair.

Well male models don't really represent what's hot to me (especially the girly-looking ones. I can't abide girly men) so I imagine that models don't necessarily jive with what real guys actually like.

I think the comic industry has the best take on what men find attractive in women. Specifically, She-Hulk.

No, the modelling industry does not represent men in general. Nothing represents men in general. Some men will want models, some want real people, some want porn stars, and some want cartoons. And porn is a far too general term. Do you mean teenie porn, fetish porn, lesbian porn, mature porn? There's too much to just declare porn the indicator of male sexual tastes.
Seconded. Also, I like girls that somewhat resembles guys.

Models are usually too skinny for my taste. I don't like seeing girls' ribcages, you know.
