Sadly, I think that porn better represents our taste in women than high fashion or Hollywood - yet women and young girls alike model themselves on Ralph Lauren and cinema.

If any woman models themselves on what they think Men (as some sort of collective consciousnes) want then they're doing it wrong.

No, the modelling industry does not represent men in general. Nothing represents men in general. Some men will want models, some want real people, some want porn stars, and some want cartoons. And porn is a far too general term. Do you mean teenie porn, fetish porn, lesbian porn, mature porn? There's too much to just declare porn the indicator of male sexual tastes.

All men are different for one.

Two, men don't care. Ralph Lauren and Movies like to pretend they know who we like because they parade a certain type out and we all go "She's hot!" But seriously, as long as she's not super repulsive, there is bound to be guys who like anyone they put in magazines and movies.

exatly, it's a proven fact (seriously) that most women acctualy persue a goal of a size at least two sizes smaller than what the average man finds desirable.

and it's also true that most men's attraction is built on physical first impressions.

Personally, I don't really find those women super attractive. ungodly thin, and all the makeup
I would want a woman that at least looks human.

Are you seriously suggesting that there are men who's attracted to skeletons?

"Sadly, I think that porn better represents our taste in women"
Nooo. I don't find silicone filled hags attractive.

If you actually think about it, they probably are - just look at the womens' Hallowe'en costumes.

They mostly look hellishly slutty, and really, it is completely their fault - I don't remember asking any woman to dress like they do on, for example, Hallowe'en.
Whenever girls dress up real slutty all that comes to mind is wondering how crusty they are from herp.

You can dress up and be attractive without showing off 99% of your skin.

Heck, cover yourself up a bit, leave it to the imagination, it's no fun if mentally undressing you is coughing in your general direction and watching your clothes fly off.

Really? Were I to put any effort at all into the way I look, I would certainly model myself on what I think women would find attractive. Is there really any purpose for "fashion" or "style", or any of that stuff, other than attracting members of the opposite (or same, whatever floats your boat) sex?

None of those women who are supposedly popular in porn are people I would want to date or even sleep with.

Edit: Okay, possibly the second one. Maybe. Not really a huge fan of her face though, and I can almost guarantee that pic has been airbrushed to make it look better.

I assume you have a number of friends who possess a vagina. Go to each one, get them to make a list of the top 5 things that they find attractive in a man, physically. I can almost guarantee you each list will be different.

Which was kind of my point - there is no collective gender hive mind. Every wo/man likes something different. Does she like beards? Maybe. Perhaps she finds goatees sexy. Maybe she likes shorter hair. Bright clothes, rather than dark. This particular style rather than that.

You can dress yourself up to make yourself more appealing to a wo/man, but not to wo/men.

I mean "porn." Whether it's I-swear-I'm-18 porn or German porn or Brazilian tranvestite porn, it's all represented. Ironically enough, the entity that most objectifies also represents "real" women, since there's "these are natural, by the way" porn.

But I wasn't trying to make a statement about porn so much as a statement that if the big fashion designers of the world can't do better than the smut peddlers then perhaps they should be ignored. I mean, c'mon, Queen Latifah has a contract with Cover Girl, but you don't see Calvin Klein knocking down her door.

And the world of modeling (except, do a lesser degree than a decade ago, Victoria's Secret) does not really represent the tastes of men very much at all.

Is that why so many guys lose their shit over Jennifer Garner and Megan Fox?

Models aren't there to be atractive.

They are simply mannequins with a pulse.
