Because of the sheer amount of crap that gets publicized for the wii, everyone always overlooks the solid titles. Claiming that the Wii only has a couple of good games and the rest is shovelware is not a valid argument. There are more exclusives for the Wii that I enjoy over my 360, but that is MY opinion. If people really don't like their Wii, whatever, but don't go bashing the thing if you have never played one.

While Nintendo seems to be in a slump right now for solid games coming out (1 every few months = slow to me) they always rebound and release top quality games. They are in my mind the best developing company, but remember that they are attempting to cater to all the new gamers (the new "casuals") and all of the older gamers from previous generations. It just so happens that the "casual" gamers far outnumber everyone else, so they release games that are proportional to demand.

In no way is the Wii a bad system, u just have to dig in a large pile of shit to find the gems.

The reason I find the Wii somewhat lacking compared to the other two is it's poor third party support and huge amount of shovelware. Note that this is coming from a PC gamer who owns none of the three.

The Conduit looks like a terrible game. Part of the problem is that they didn't utilize the potential of the Wii. They just made a low graphic generic FPS.
The only thing I'd argue about that statement is that it's impressive what the developers were able to squeeze out of the hunk of plastic.

Its all in the numbers. The Wii really suffers when it comes to the ratio of Good games to Shit games.

Number of games in the green (75 or more)

360:233 games in 3 and a half years.
PS3:142 games in 2 and a half years.
Wii:76 games in 2 and a half years.

Number of games in the red (49 or less):

360:66 in 3 and a half years.
PS3:21 in 2 and a half years.
Wii:78 in 2 and a half years.

Ratio (Good to Shit)

360-3.53:1 http://www.metacritic.com/games/xbox360/scores/
PS3-6.76:1 http://www.metacritic.com/games/ps3/scores/
Wii:0.97:1 http://www.metacritic.com/games/wii/scores/

Since people (mostly) judge gaming consoles by the games the Wii has had major problems with its massive output of shovelware games.

Not really. The graphics are not that good. Actually, they're very bad. I know the graphics are heavily limited on the Wii but some of the textures and bitmaps in that game are just downright ugly.

Really? What I've seen of it was decent enough.

The Wii isn't a bad console.

The reason it has recently gotten a bad reputation among some gamers is because very few third party developers have taken advantage of the Wii's technology, which is the console's selling point. Nintendo, themselves, have not recently released any games that appeal to mainstream gamers that realize the Wii's full potential. Even Twilight Princess was a let down in that respect.

So, it's not that the console is bad. Developers are too afraid to take risks and make innovative games. Even in other consoles, I see this trend with the MASSIVE amount of high-numbered sequels that are fairly sub-par (from what I hear). The rise of indie games seems to be a clear indicator of this.

I was always ready to slate the Wii for being a load of crap, in fact I've been quite vocal on the subject, but then I bought one last week in a fit of stupidity - actually, because I left my 360 at uni when I came home for Easter and was bored shitless - and it turns out it's actually quite good fun.

I'm not so keen on the excessive stick-waving because I'm damn lazy (which is why it's a shame that I got the Mario & Sonic Olympics thing free with it) but I've got Super Mario Galaxy which is pretty chilled, and No More Heroes which is just utterly brilliant... yeah, and some Final Fantasy related thing that doesn't use the remote at all.

My main reason for slating it before was that I couldn't name any games that I wanted for it, but now I've ended up with four retail games and Wii Sports, all of which are at least decent, plus my favourite game of all time from the Virtual Console, so I'm pretty happy. Also, there's another two or three games that I'm gonna get next time I'm out.

So yeah, there's undeniably a load of shovelware crap out for it, and I guess it's reasonable to suggest that all the decent releases are buried under the drivel, but it's there if you're willing to look. Even if, as I expect, I get bored with it within a couple of months, at least it's distracted me from the 360 for a while, which is good because I was starting to tire of all my games. Playing something else for a while will go a long way towards keeping everything fresh.

They cherry picked those scenes. Trust me, some of the more recent screen shots shed light upon the poor quality of the graphics. Plus at the bitmap at 1:15 is one of the worst I've ever seen.

Idiots are afraid that it will cause developers to abandon them in favor of so called casual gamers. Once the forces of the market move against you acting like you are on 4chan when you are not won't help, it just irks everyone around you.

The Wii simply doesn't have the type of games that appeal to me. Sure, I could list several games that I love, or would love: Resident Evil 4, Okami and Fatal Frame IV come to mind. However, 3 games won't justify purchasing a new console for me.
However, most people won't think of it like that. They'll think "OMG IT DOSENT HAS HALO IT SUXXXX"

i agree, but most of the shovelware for the wii comes from third parties and game developers new to the 3D media

It has plenty of good games.
It has tenfold more terrible games.

And by terrible, I mean "not aimed at me and I do not enjoy them" (ie: MY OPINION)

So I'd say that the idea is good and no one is forcing you to purchase games you don't like.

Also, Twilight Princess came out for Gamecube, and is effectively a last-gen game...but there are plenty of wonderful current-gen games out for Wii.

Unfortunately, most of them are sequels, remakes, or have some huge glaring flaws that keep many from enjoying the game.

I don't think it's a bad system - it has plenty of untapped potential. It deserves more devs working on it, and personally, I want to see an RTS try working with their controls. ;P

I like how 360 fanboys insult the Wii and call it all sorts of unmanly names, as Wii Fit quietly destroys Halo 3 in sales.

Excuse me, but I played No More Heroes and I thought it was rubbish. Those assassin missions were terrible and repetitive, while the jobs were probably better than your average Mario Party minigame they were still pretty boring, and the boss fights were the only thing that pulled me through the first half of the game.

And then came that tunnel level.

You run down a tunnel, killing boring enemies who die slowly, and then you miss out on the only good part of the game. What the hell were the developers thinking? That the combat against average enemies was good enough? Sorry, it wasn't. I put the game down at that point and returned it to the library.

And the dialogue is so ridiculously juvenile it is beyond belief. The fanservice whenever a female character appears is pathetic.

I'd be interested in other people's opinions on why it was good, but personally, if they make a sequel it would be better following Madworld's lead rather than the original game's.

To everyone who says the Wii sucks because of the shovelware (wonder when that word will make it into the dictionaries?), think about this; in the previous generation, the Playstation 2 suffered from the same exact thing, and nobody really complained about it.

I don't think that the shovelware is at all stagnating the industry, it's just stagnating the Wii. Really, it's a perfect storm for shovelware - it's the most popular console and has great appeal with the kiddy/casual market, which is a plus for shovelware manufacturers. And then you throw in the fact that motion controls are insanely easy to muck up, and you have tons of unplayable games.

Also, am I the only one who really wishes that all of the big cross-platform games had an option in the Wii version to use the Classic controller or the gamecube controller, and just play the game the way it was meant to be played, albeit with slightly worse graphics? I really don't see why they can't do that. Twilight Princess worked just as well on the GC as it did on the Wii.

And seriously, Nintendo, when will you make online multiplayer that's halfway decent? You want to protect the kids? Fine. THAT'S WHAT PARENTAL CONTROLS ARE FOR. Just make the current blindfolded system the one that you get when parental controls are turned on, and then make a system that people actually want to play.

And WiiMusic? What the fuck? That's your big announcement?

I mean, I love the Wii, and I think it's an amazing console. But Nintendo are going for easy money now, and if they don't change their gameplan, the Wii will become obsolete before long. I can take a graphical downgrade if the gameplay is worth it. Now Nintendo, make it worth it.

All about the good (green/75+) to bad (red/49 or less) ratio.

The Wii has a good/bad game ratio of 0.97:1 (76 good:78 bad)
The PS2 had a good/bad ratio of 3.80:1 (536 good: 141 bad)

So while the PS2 also had alot of shovelware it had 3.8 times more good games while the Wii has more bad than good and it took the PS2 9 years to reach 141 shovelware games while the Wii will reach that (if the shit output stays the same) half the time.

Still I certainly would be fine with 76 games. Thats 4 times more than total numbers of games I own for 4 platforms.

Oh, and the other current big problem with Wii software: there are some great games recently released and coming out, and that's great. However, most of these games have been released before on other systems. Take for example, World of Goo, or the upcoming Doukutsu/Cave Story. Both are excellent games, but not necessarily excellent Wii games, just excellent games that happen to be on the Wii, as well as on the computer. I use my Wii more for playing VC games than actual Wii games.

And when your system's biggest draw is that you can pay to play old games, you've got a problem.
