I don't know. I try not to care about anyone enough to get to that stage.
I mean, I guess I'd at least try to lay a dude out if he was beating a dog or a small kid or something else that couldn't fight back, but that's just basic human decency. Which, surprisingly, I have at least a smidgen of.
I just can't see myself getting all worked up over stupid bullshit like other protective people, I guess. I've never understood that whole "HE GLANCED AT MY SISTER MUST DESTROY" thing. It seems quite silly, frankly.
If they blatantly disrespect them in some way (i.e. insults, sleeping around, shit like that), then fine. You are pretty much obligated to get hostile with them for doing something like that to anyone you have some sort of close personal relationship with. If not because you genuinely want to, because it is expected of you.
It seems that most of the time, though, it is overreactions. Some guy bumps into your object of overprotectiveness and you cuss him out. He calls them a name and you break his kneecaps.
This is not rational behaviour. This is impulsive, stupid, and does more harm than good.
And besides. It's hardly for their benefit. It's for yours.
YOU want to fuck the offender's shit up. And you want to do it because they hurt YOUR girlfriend/sister/whatever.
It's pretty selfish and possessive. But when you boil it all down, most human things are, so whatever. Moot point.
