It's cheating, yes. But cheating in a single player game to make it more enjoyable for yourself is hardly a bad thing.

Feeling remorseful for cheating in a single player game is kind of pointless, since it's basically a victimless crime.
Or if you prefer, future you is the victim of past you, or vice-versa, but nobody else minds it. So do it as much as you want, we really, really don't have anything against it at all.
Now, if this was a multiplayer game, that would radically change things, and that could get you punched in the groin :p

Well yeah it is cheating technically, but you're talking about cheating in a single player game, so the only one that's effected by it is you. So if you don't feel that doing that cheapens your gaming experience then by all means carry one.

Sure, it's cheating. But as N people have said in here, why should you care? It's single-player. If you think you will have a better experience by doing this, by all means do it. If you think you're robbing yourself of some fun, then don't do it.

It's cheating, yeah. It's not bad though (single player and all that). It's not really like you're breaking the game anyway.

I have this idea for keeping arrows, always retrieve them fom the body. Skeleton characters never get impale by arrows.

So I'm playing oblivion as a marksman character and I keep running out of arrows mid dungeon despite bringing 200 plus. So I bring up the console and restock with arrows of my own level. Glass currently. I have loads of gold so its not like I couldnt go out of the dungeon and get some I'm just sick of running back and forth.

Is that really bad cheating :S Do you think I should stop it. Have you ever done anything similar in a game? What do you think?
The real question is why if you have 200 plus arrows do you run out? Maybe you need to practice your aim teehee :p

If your marksmen is maxed, how are you running out of so many arrows? I think I remember if your marksmen is high you can pull more of the arrows out of a body.
Could it be possible its because I don't have 'Master' I left for the Shivering isles before I maxed it.
Maybe, though I worded that poorly. Should have said less of your arrows break so you can pull them out. Also you said you were a stealth archer so what level are you? Most of the time I've used stealth arrows they one hit most enemies.

Wow, I just remembered why I never used bows and arrows in Oblivion: ammo is a pain in the arse. Go download that arrow patch so you do more damage per hit.

i wouldn't really call it cheating. the real question is who'll care. obviously if it was a multiplayer game and you kept gifting yourself arrows your friends might get bothered that it "ruins immersion" or something, but if it's just you playing the only opinion you should be concerned about is your own. does it bother you? if not then keep doing it, if it's getting to you then stop. closest thing i've done to this was using cheats (real, undeniable, true cheating) to get free money to buy all my characters the best equipment in Legend of Dragoon (on the second playthrough because it just bothers me to cheat myself out of the first)

The best question for this situation is; who cares outside of you?

Really, don't take it as a rude statement. It's your single-player experience, does it really matter?

It's like when my Grandmother would cheat at solitaire and act like she shot JFK or something. Like, come on, no one else has a personal investment to the game outside of you. Cheating to me, is breaking the rules to give yourself an advantage over others. You can't get an advantage over yourself, so it's not cheating. If you're looking for a dedicated level of immersion, you're cheating yourself out of that; but you're not suddenly doubling Enigma Armors and trading them off in other games (SUP DIABLO 2!).

if I remember correctly, couldn't you just loot the arrows you shot at the people from their bodies?

but as for cheating... that's all up to you. cheats are more or less, to me anyways, a difficulty setting. It's like, there's hard, normal, easy, then cheat. in single player games anyways. multiplayer... cheaters should be drawn and quartered in rl. but otherwise it's just up to you how you want to play your own game. I used to be all about the cheat codes in the gaming mags (remember that?) when I was a kid, but now I enjoy a bit more of a challenge. Again... it's your call how you want to play it. unless it's multiplayer... then you die. >)

If you own a videogame, you deserve to play that videogame however you choose. The author is dead.

Obviously this excludes fucking around in multiplayer. That shit don't fly.

Yes, it's cheating. And the problem with bethesda games is, as great as making yourself super powerful is, you realize about an hour into it: Wait, why am I even playing if there isn't anything to get better at? I broke the game. And the temptation will always be there...shit.

Well, that's how I got anyway.
How is giving myself the correct level arrows making me super powerful?
It's the fact that you're just giving yourself something in a potentially unlimited supply without paying for them. If you really have the money for them, just go out and buy a shit ton. Or you know, level up a melee skill =3 And trust me, it won't be long before you'll be bored and give yourself stat bonuses and better armor, and money to buy stuff like house items, and BAM game broken!
...
Or none of that could happen. Perfectly possible.

I think I will stop and try and train up a melee skill just to be in the spirit of things. I don't sually cheat at anything.

I started doing it becuase I was stuck in passwall with about 10 knights of order attacking my dark seducer with no arrows...

So I gave myself the arrows and kicked ass.
Don't stop. Spawn in the arrows, but keep track of how mayn you use. Then when you get to town, buy back all the arrows you "spawned" and immediately destroy them/dump them in the river.

and BLAM! karmic balance!?

That's how Karma works right?.... right?

If you are hacking and/or modifying the game (and your inventory) it is cheating. Is it a bad thing? In multiplayer it is. In single player, it's up to you. I see it as a different way to play and if you have more fun that way there is nothing wrong with it. That applies to any game from Oblivion to Minecraft and Pokemon and any other game you can think of.

I did that glitch with a whole bunch of gold coins so I could have a room over-flowing with money...then the game gittered, froze, turned itself and then came the RED RING OF DEATH!

So, yeah its cheating, but cheating is fucking fun!

It's cheating but it's not really killing the game for you, one way or another you're going to get arrows.
It's not like you just upgraded all your shit because you feel like it.

I don't think I've done similar, although being a mage on Morrowind certainly felt like cheating at times.
The towns I harassed from the air whilst my elemental s wreaked havoc on their guards. Thank you House Telvanni.
