What's wrong with it being a guy? The guys I know are far more sensual than any woman could ever hope to be. Except Max, (s)he's pretty sensual too.
Nothing. I actually said in my OP there's nothing wrong with it. Please read it properly cos comments like that cause flame wars

Do a video chat. Failing that, do an audio chat.

And please, just DON'T fall for the "I'm a mute" sympathy tactic, followed up by stories of being a rape victim and having to have abortions and stuff like that. The only "girl" I took an interest in that said she lived that life was actually a highly deceptive and manipulative male, who I never truly trusted even before I found out the truth. (But with words, I guess I can admit that feelings had developed... it happens over time, when they keep telling you they'll get the webcam, but they never do it. Watch out for such things.)

But I did get hurt in the end, when he finally told me. I'm not bi, and it wasn't some prank either. Some stupid thing of his about pretending to be a girl to make friends. What a sick, lonely bastard. I of course never spoke to him again.

Long story short, this person sounds like they probably are a fake. There are chicks who type like that, and yes, some of them do play MMOs. I've met some girls on MMOs. I've seen some on webcam, and heard them talk to me. One of them was even hot, to my amazement.

However, a girl that types "overly cute" like that... she's probably not very mature. And I'm guessing pretty young. By the way you type, I can tell that you're either twice as knowledgable as her by education, or by age. In most cases, it's age difference. So watch out for that too.

Take pleasure in the friendship until you get proof. Then take it to the next level, if you understand all the risks you're taking. Never overtrust in the online scene. Some people ARE there to deceive, and they will if you're unlucky enough to meet one of them.

Real girls on the internet are experts at camoflauge, never mentioning gender or doing ^.^ <- that - it's why guys don't know they exist.
i found one lethal flaw in your argument. why would we hide, or need to be experts in camoflauge, as you say? it's not like being a girl = -100hp or something...
eh.

Even if it IS a girl, why would you want a relationship through a video-game?

i don't know, i know no respectful man that spells "honey","hunni" or "hunny" in ANY situation...
So I'm the only one?
But hunny is such a cute way to spell it >.>....
Oh well I'm comfortable enough in my masculinity to use a few feminine spellings.

On topic, you could always ask for a phone number and call her.

Meh, could be either one. I was so pissed off once in an MMO when I no one believed I was a woman. I put up with an hours worth of porn and sexist jokes before I signed off. It's not always a bloke. Sometimes, it really is a woman.

Be careful with an interent relationship though. Bear in mind, no matter how long you talk to them, you won't actually know them until you meet them.

OK, my point is NOT that girls take special precautions to camoflauge themselves (which is clearly a facetious comment), just that 90% of girls who aren't actually guys won't act any differently from guys. When I read "Speaking as a girl gamer..." or "As a woman..." on the internet, that sends alarm bells ringing. So does ^.^ and other "cute" actions that are too stereotypical to really be a true indicator of gender online.

OT - Don't care either way and you'll stay happy.

Here's a fool-proof solution. Ask for a picture at some point, and tell them to have a piece of paper with something written on it. That something could be anything you want, preferably something that wouldn't be easily found on the Internet to further the ruse.

EDIT: If they refuse, assume it's a man.
Or ask what they look like first and a while, be it days or weeks, ask for a photo. If he/she doesn't match that its a fake and otherwise you have like 80% chance its her I guess :)

Rule #1 of the Internet: Always assume the majority of people with female characters, look like this:

Atleast, until they convince you otherwise (Sound of their voice, etc.)

I'd like to say it ISN'T a man, but it very well may be. Just be cautious.

It might be a girl, I know a few girls in rl that play MMOs and type like that. Judging by the way she's talking I don't think she's flirting just being sweet.

But I could be wrong and it might be a dude but its unlikely.
