No, you're not racist at all. Your teacher is just a fucking PC-ite tool that needs to be put in place. I say: report his/her ass to a higher authority and make that teacher's life miserable through all the legal and proper channels that you can.

Im personally the opposite, I like dark skin. To me it does not matter if said skin is on a well tanned Caucasian, Asian or "African American" (quotes because they aren't all American) and i would never turn down a nice girl because she had light skin but i do have the preference. If you find lighter skin attractive it is your own choice and if someone is trying to legislate your preferences they have problems, if they are actually calling you a bigot over this i would strongly recommend seeking the help of the faculty PARTICULARLY since she chose to discuss this within earshot of your classmates.
Remember she chose to criticize your sexual preferences in front of your classmates and the only reason it came up was because she asked. Also, just FYI i don't think there is a politically correct way to refer to race, there is a "National Association for the Advancement of Colored People" in America, however people get on edge when you use the word. Someone mentioned using the term "light complexion" as opposed to "white skin" and while the two mean virtually the same thing the first is "less offensive".
Fun fact, did you know that in many Asian cultures light skin and pink nipples are a sign of purity and has been a major driving force for Nipple Bleaching products!

Your teacher is a bloody idiot. You should do what I did. Write a paper about the biological aspect of racial profiling and how it has persisted as a part of human instinct today, instead of the dumb racial tolerance one. If she gets on you about it, you could also do what I did, bring the notion of her idiocy and close-minded to her bosses. Granted, you'd probably wouldn't want to troll her if you were to bring the issue of her sensitivity in the respect of the punishment she bestowed upon you to her superiors.

Either way, you can't let this bullshit stand. Never submit. Always fight.

Since its about something as personal and relative as: "what i find most attractive", then I don't see listing a specific skin colour as any sifferent to listing a specific hair colour (How many times have we hard about the "red-head" cliché?)

It's not racist to be attracted to light or white skin. If you were to say something like "I can only be attracted to white people" then yes, I can see how that can be seen as racist, but that's not what you said. You simply said that you are most attracted to white skin. I mean, your teacher may as well have said you were being sexist because you said you were attracted to women instead of both women and men... that makes just as much sense as calling what you said racist.

I don't think punishment was necessary, since in my eyes there was no offense, especially since the worksheet was asking for an opinion. Even if you did say that you were only attracted to white people, or maybe even something more racist like mentioning which races you hated or something, it still shouldn't be punished, as it's your opinion and you were simply honestly answering the question. Your teacher assigning a punishment for saying an honest opinion is basically giving the message that you should lie in order to fit the "norm" just so you can get a good grade.

Your teacher should be reprimanded for even proposing this activity. It's already been stated numerous times in this thread that an openly gay student would and should be offended by it. And a closeted gay student would have to lie about themselves.

Seriously if your teacher freaks out this much that you like white girls, you need to bring the issue up about homosexuality and how it relates to this activity. And if you really wanted to be all kinds of awesome, keep taking it to higher and higher authority figures.

We were discussing attraction in psychology today and we did a worksheet, one of the questions being about what we find attractive in the opposite sex. When it got to which physical characteristics we find most attractive, I listed:

somewhat tall
healthy-looking, ie in good shape but not too skinny
dark hair
white skin

and some other things, but that last one was what got me in trouble. Now, at no point did I say I find other skin colors unattractive, and I did not say that I find colored people unattractive, just for their skin color. All I said was that it was one of many physical characteristics (saying nothing of personality and intellectual traits) that I find attractive. And also, it's not like I'd turn down a girl just because of her skin color, to me it's just one trait that I notice, and there are many more (saying nothing of intellectual and personality traits). To me, dating a black or asian girl would be no different than dating a blonde, yes I prefer dark to blonde hair but I can still find her attractive and nice (hopefully). I thought I was being honest about a personal opinion in a mature discussion about a mature topic.

In short, it's no different than my finding dark brown hair more attractive than light blonde hair. It's only a superficial thing.

Anyway, she didn't even give me a chance to explain what I meant by that, and wouldn't hear a word of it when I tried. Now I have to write a paper about racial tolerance. Is this right? Am I a racist, just for finding one skin color more physically appealing than the others?

EDIT/UPDATE: Okay, so the term 'colored people' comes off as racist. Just a poor choice of words on my part, sorry. I'd actually been told it was the politically correct term.
Who told you that colored is the politically correct term to use? She should not have jumped to such a conclusion without asking what you meant and it is wrong for her to deny you from defending your self. You where just ignorant when it came to saying "colored people", but there is nothing wrong with being ignorant for it is just being uninformed and in your case told wrong by someone you know.

Some people take issue with a person saying the word black and not African American or saying Asian instead of the more specific country the person hails from. In truth black is the wrong word to describe a ethnic race as well African American for one could be black and not hail from Africa. There is no pure black race as there is no pure white race, we all very in skin tones that one of African decent could be a lighter skin tone of a person of hispanic decent. I am considered caucasian and my friend is considered caucasian who is full blooded Italian, but he has olive skin, that skin color can be dark enough to have many ignorant people think you are hispanic or some where from the middle east.

Majority of Middle Eastern people are caucasian and many ignorant people think being Arabic has to do with race or skin color (it does not).

I generalize like most people do when it comes to different ethnic groups, but I always try to correct my mistakes.

Write the paper about individual preference. Seriously, that's just a complete oversight on the teacher's part.

In sophomore year, I was asked by this black girl (who I was sorta friends with) if I would date a white girl. I said yes. Hispanic? Yes. Asian? Yes. Black? I said no. She nodded and was like "Yeah" and laughed a little. She wasn't angry. She understood that it wasn't a race thing, because I'm about the nicest person I know. She knew that everybody has a personal preference.

Okay I need to explain this to you all. To be racist your intent must be to SLANDER AND OR ATTACK someone not of your ethnic background. If the intent is not there its not a crime.

Let me give an analogy.
Say you're driving and someone runs out in front of your car. You try to brake but the person was too close and your turn them into a windshield ornament. There was no intent of brutally killing that person with a car, ergo Justice would be that you go free.

But if you see that guy on the side of the street that fucked your girlfriend last week and you speed up and hit him. Then yeah your ass deserves jail. (even though he was a douche)

Personally I'm so sick of these left-wing assholes suppressing people's rights to Freedom of Speech. Freedom of Speech includes everything including sexual preferences.
I'm willing to bet real money if someone else was asked the same question and they listed a homosexual white male, that no one would bat an eye at that.

Freedom of Speech means everyone. And yes if you ask for someone's opinion on something then you MIGHT BE OFFENDED by what they think SO DONT FUCKING ASK if you cant handle it.

(you may send my comment to your teacher if you wish xP)

The End

Oh, and make the paper on tolerance an incredibly graphic interracial orgy! That'll teach em...
That sound good to me :) Have all the colors of the rainbow! Blue can be Asari, pink can be Zeltron, green can be those chicks from Star Trek, and etc.

Not racist at all. Write a paper about racial tolerance if you have to, but make it clear that racial tolerance is unrelated to personal preferences as far as sexual attraction goes. Or even better, tell someone else in authority about this incident and i´m sure that this misunderstanding will be resolved.

While I personally don't believe you are racist in what you said, I can kind of see how someone would take it the wrong way, especially in written form. I am curious though as to what skin colour your teacher is. Is there any reason she would take a comment like that personally?

It sucks, but sometimes there are things better left to yourself. I mean, if a non-white girl asked you out, and you replied "sorry I'm not interested; I'm only attracted to white girls" would you expect her not to get offended (I'm aware you said you wouldn't choose not to date someone based on their skin colour; I'm just using it as an example).

Look at it from the teacher's point of view. Do they know you well enough to know it isn't a malicous attack on non-whites? However, I do agree she should have given you a chance to explain what you meant. I would try to fight this, but just remember the principal is going to be on the teacher's side. Again, it sucks, but schools don't really give a flying fuck what students think.

Any authority figure has the right to do anything they want to you if you aren't willing to appeal over their head.

If your school won't do anything about it, you'll have to take the school to court. But a judge would refuse to hear the case based on such a light punishment.

Or, more likely, you'll just take your punishment and hate them for giving it to you. Unless you're willing to take action to protect your rights, all authority is limitless. If you are under 18, that is usually the case anyway.
