Xbox Live Silver version is free, but that just makes it so you can add friends, send messages, and buy stuff.
Gold is cheap though, I think it's 60 dollars or so for a year of gaming, which isn't half bad, all things considered.

I think you might be thinking of Windows Live, the PC equivalent. Since it was such a big flop, and some games published under "Games For Windows" require it for online play or downloading, they made it free. I guess they figured that making it free would be more profitable as it is an advertisement haven. They really should have realized that the reason some people play on PC is because the online is almost always free.

Microsoft made Games for Windows Live free cause they knew true PC gamers weren't gonna put up with that when they could go else were and play for free. But XBL is a different story cause PC servers have sponsors while console servers are run by the company that owns the console and with Microsoft you'd have a better chance of getting a cure for AIDS before M$ made XBL free.

Awesome, they are currently doing bone marrow transplants on AIDS sufferers and finding that the healthy bone marrow helps the sufferer cure themselves of AIDS, do you know what this means?.

Thats where they got everyone. It does cost a lot to run the servers, but nobody asked them to run the servers. For PC games the developers run their own servers, and there was no good reason for them to not do the same thing with 360 servers, but Microsoft said no. Microsoft decided they would run all the servers themselves so that they could charge everyone.

Now take into consideration that he withdrew that statement (for quite obvious reasons) when he actually reviewed said game.
