I think there is a better chance for scientist to find the location of an actual hell then make the determination that in the next Ice Age it will indeed freeze over.

It is totally free. Yup. Xbox Live is as free as free gets. Oh, wait, you wanted to play multiplayer didn't you? Oh, well no. You're going to continue to pay as long as you want to play. Sorry.
Look at it this way, Microsoft owns an arcade. Not only do you have to put down sixty bucks for every game you want to play, but in order to actually play it, you have to still put quarters in.
Well, at least it ain't as bad as WoW.

By the way, what comprises LIVE Silver? I've never hooked up my Xbox to the internet, so can someone please inform?

I like XBL how it is. 10 million people play WOW and that is like 10 times the cost.

While it is highly unlikely, I think XBL could be free in a not too distant future, all that is required is that the competition increase.

yep, it was a big piece of S***y information. That's never going to happen and if it does I'll remove 3 of my own vertabre, cut out half my rib cage and suck my own dick.
Please, for the sake of all mankind, do no such thing. If you disregard the previous advice, hide from the world before you commit said act.
ok man, i'll take that into consideration. I was just thinking of one of Yahtzee's reviews where he said he would remove 3 of vertabre, curl his spine back, and eat his own ass, that's where i came up with this idea because it ain't gonna happen.
Yes, I know.
Now take into consideration that he withdrew that statement (for quite obvious reasons) when he actually reviewed said game.
Take care what you say, lest you end up having to do regrettable things to yourself.

Just a word of caution: Never be too sure of anything (not) happening, you could be wrong.
Right, of course

I don't mind the fees, and i don't reckon it'll ever become free.
But so long as it means that they can have the funding to keep XBL running and relatively bug-free, what does it matter?

You can't rush mad science - my pigs can glide slightly at the moment, working through selective breeding and genetic engineering to get them the rest of the way - PORKY WILL FLY, MUHAHAHAHAHA

Is XBL going free...

I think I can hear the divine creator going mad with the lulz and proceeding to eat his own face at the mere thought.

The guy who told you this piece of information probably thought this because Xbox live IS getting cheaper in the near future as 1 year cards will become $30 instead of $49.99. (Heard this from geek squad)

Maybe when they've passed their expected profit margins, and the next generation is round the corner, it will go free.

Xbox Live is a Microsoft service, so no, it will NEVER be free.
Bingo
Yah I tried Xbox live silver because......its FREE! But then I realized its almost worthless if you haven't had a gold membership to begin with. Because your probably not going to have any friends on XBL if you haven't been able to play with anyone. I think its just a middle ground if you have had a gold account and then forgot to get another gold account card. That way they can still keep you while still taking stuff away.

People use silver accounts for clans and groups... load a dummy account up with folks, and look at their friend list to connect with a large number of other people for games.

Otherwise, yeah, not especially useful beyond a jumping-off point to buy DLC.

If I can ever get an internet connection that my university won't actually mind me connecting the old 360 to, then I'll definitely get XBL, and to be honest £40 for a whole year isn't really that much, I'd use it quite often so it'd be worth it for me. However, Microsoft will never make XBL free. They make too much money and Bill Gates is a greedy sod, so it's not going to go free unless every other internet-related company goes free and they face losing profits. Simple business strategy.

That reminded me of a funny Simpsons episode...
And I agree, when pigs fly.

Not sure you'd have to take such extreme measures in order to slurp yourself. One or two ribs would probably do the trick, along with some serious stretching...

On a serious note though, I've had both Xbox Live and the Playstation Network...and I much prefer the free PSN over the Live membership. Granted, I don't really give a frak about multiplayer though. So of course I'd like free better...
Dude i hate to tell you but i've read in a book that you would actually have to remove a few of your vertabre along with the rib cage thing for it to work, trust me.

The Microsoft regime wouldn't loosen their tyrannical grip! If anything it will increase in price.
