It's quite a pleasant surprise for me.
Okay -- I started the Saints Row series playing Saints Row 2, I had some fun with it (EXCEPT FOR THAT /FUCKING/ RONIN MOTORCYCLE CHASE) and then I played Saints Row 3 and hooooly shiiiiit
But my opinions on Saints Row 3 (is that it's a game that gets far, far too much hate and that it's awesome) doesn't matter for this thread.
So I am usually afraid of looking at the comments for Saints Row 3 or Saints Row 4 related videos because I can bet they will all be 'HOW DARE THEY NOT MAKE SAINTS ROW 2 WITH BETTER GRAPHICS!' And then I looked at some comments for Saints Row IV and it's just...
Oh. Look. People are saying how excited they are for the game. People are defending the game against the aforementioned 'HOW DARE THEY NOT blardy blardy blar' kind of people.
/oh/ /look/ people are actually HAPPY about it.
So! What's your opinion on Saints Row IV or how people are seeming to like it?
Captcha: Face the music
No, I refuse to look at my thread about TiTS. I'll make another one when it comes out.

I may get it. Didn't like Saints Row 3 though so this one will have to be amazing for me to pick it up.

I don't know if I'll get it or not because almost everything I've seen so far is just offensive to the first two Saints Row games. I'm sure it'll be fun but so was The Third and I didn't like The Third.

The developers have already confirmed that they don't care about the serious nature of the series, so I know it's only going to get worse as it goes along and all the characters from the the first two will just become hollow shells of what they previously were (Johnny, Shaundi, Ben King, The Protagonist).

Actually I wont be buying Saints Row 4 even if they fix the issues and get it reclassified with an R or MA rating I wont buy it. I can't bring myself to support a company which thought that a fun game mechanic was a RAPE GUN. That's not fun, thats not something I want to see other companies copy. Why would you do that?

Well, clearly I'm much more hip and independently minded than you because I didn't like any of them. (Except the first one I suppose, since I never played it.)

- SR2 was a horribly controlled, ugly, poorly animated mess with incredibly shallow and unsatisfying combat. Got completely bored within an hour.

- SR3 was a better controlled, better looking, somewhat better animated mess with incredibly shallow and unsatisfying combat and some funny melee finishing moves. Got completely bored within an hour.

- SR4 isn't getting my money any time soon, no matter how many people rave about how totally random and whacky it is lol.

Wut?

That is/will be/was a thing?

When did that happen and how did it not do the controversy circuit?

I'm still mad that Stephen Colbert isn't going to be president, so screw the game! >:\ *huff!*

But nah. Jokes aside, I'll wait until the reviews come out before I decide anything. Saints Row 3 was very much a dull note compared to the second game.

Unless they make Stephen Colbert president. Then I will buy it first day. I don't even care if it's Duke Nukem Forever levels of bad.

That's why it was Refused Classification in Australia

The game includes a weapon referred to by the Applicant as an ?Alien Anal Probe?. The Applicant states that this weapon can be ?shoved into enemy?s backsides?. The lower half of the weapon resembles a sword hilt and the upper part contains prong-like appendages which circle around what appears to be a large dildo which runs down the centre of the weapon. When using this weapon the player approaches a (clothed) victim from behind and thrusts the weapon between the victim?s legs and then lifts them off the ground before pulling a trigger which launches the victim into the air. After the probe has been implicitly inserted into the victim?s anus the area around their buttocks becomes pixelated highlighting that the aim of the weapon is to penetrate the victim?s anus. The weapon can be used during gameplay on enemy characters or civilians. In the Board?s opinion, a weapon designed to penetrate the anus of enemy characters and civilians constitutes a visual depiction of implied sexual violence that is interactive and not justified by context and as such the game should be Refused Classification.

Meh, I'm a fair bit more excited about GTA 5.
SR had it's tenure in my library and now that particular slot shall feel GTA's embrace once again.

For some reason I'm getting more and more excited for SR4 the more it's shown off to the point I'm really thinking of getting it. I was initially cold to it since I was on the "Saints Row 3 was a disappointment Volition are hacks" bandwagon, but fuck it just looks soooo fun in a "now that looks fun" kind of way.

I know it still looks waayyy too much like Saints Row 3 because it (was) will be an over priced expansion to Saints Row 3. But stiiiiiilll.

Well, after Saints Row 3 completely screwed the pooch in terms of missions, characters and villains, whatever you know. Whatever. It's a disappointment after all the silly fun that was Saints Row 2.

Because some people find that funny, despite how morally reprehensible it is. If it was emotional damage rape it'd be controversial, but its really slapstick so its easy to look at it and chuckle.

I'm not bothered myself, I just won't use it unless its the only weapon I have on hand. They're video game characters so *shrug*

Saints Row 3 was a fun game but I would've liked to have some context before the missions, and while I did like having a lot of variety in weapons and vehicles, getting them as early as you do in them kinda defeats the "We have no resources now" idea.

Well, Saints Row was awesome, and 4 looks like it'll be even more awesome.
Even less of that useless common sense stuff.
There should be more games like them.

First, please take a chilling pill and calm down.

Second, while I am one of those that likes 2 over 3 I must say that what they have done is right and even should be praised for it, in a franchise thats about to have its fourth game none of them are similar to each other, they are all diferent with their own identities. It goes from serious gangster themed to sci-fi superhero in the span of 4 games.

Also, everyone wanted the third game to go crazier before the release as everyone thought that Saints Row 2 was "better" (I would say diferent) then GTA IV because it was crazier so logicly that lever needed to be pushed all the way, right? Their justification was (and still is for SR4) that they couldnt get stale and remain in the same level so they had to go bigger and wackier.

Now that they have said that SR4 will be the end of a saga I think that everything will work out for everyone since they will probably tone it down again to make room for the other sequels to grow.

Oh, and they are releasing mod tools for SR3, 4 and probably 2, thats fucking awesome.

Its not a rape gun, its an alien anal probing device, you know, that thing that people always made fun of aliens since thats is what they used to analize us according to the "kidnapped" people.

Its a sci-fi trope joke, not a rape joke.

I just think people sometimes get caught up and don't really notice what Saints Row is doing.

Yeah, it's really stupid. Yeah, it's immature as fuck. But that's how they chose to take themselves from being just another GTA clone. If you look at all the successful sandbox games that function much like GTA, each one has it's one unique twist on it. Red Dead Redemption has it's old western theme, Just Cause 2 has it's massive area and grappling hook/parachute, and Saints Row has its stupid sense of humor as far as plot and weapons go. I see nothing wrong with it, and frankly I'm quite excited for the fourth game.

Perhaps people need to step back and realize that if it wasn't for the lame jokes and stupid dildo bats in Saints Row, it probably wouldn't have made it as far as it has, since it really would have just been a really lame GTA knock off.

Well I'm going to jump on the excited bandwagon with you. Most people who didn't like the over the top nature of Saints Row 3, only have to hear the SR4 has aliens to just say; 'nope'. But for me it's a whatever, the Saints Row series have been a bit of give and take.

Whilst I did like the deeper portions of the plot to SR2 I just felt they improved the visuals so massively, that I can't play SR2 without screaming. I would also like it if they bring back the ability to replay missions and cutscenes, such a small feature but their absences literally made me angry.

Also with Sainst Row 3, the wackiness wasn't totally expect, or that degree. The complete tonal shift was unexpected from SR2 to 3, but this was purposeful as they wanted something more consistent and less all over the shop like SR2 (oh look at this sad scene where I have to shoot a fellow Saint in face, but where are my clothes?).
In a way I can respect that, It's distancing itself from the GTA comparisons (for better or for worse). Frankly I'm not hyped for GTA V, never have been really interested in the GTA Series.

Probably because you can't play as a woman, I'm incredibly easy to please that way.

Unfortunately it's been refused classification in Australia, so I won't be able to find out. That being said, Saints Row 2 wasn't too bad, I don't love the series, it's left me lukewarm at best.

I thought it was something to do with illicit drugs, but that anal probe thingy is a rather stupid thing to put in, toilet humour at best... Why doesn't it just get an R18+ classification? That's what it's there for. A reasonable adult can tell the difference between reality and fantasy. (sorry, this is not directed at you.)
