People bash Vista for illogical BS all the time. I switched in January and never looked back.

Seems like a good thing, but I just hope they bring BACK some of the things they got rid of from XP, like the ability to make a new folder without having to hit right-click.

Next we need to slaughter whoever made Office 2007. Easily one of the worst changes I've ever seen.

Will the Vista be obsolete, then?
Apparently vista will be supported for like 2 more years, and XP is going to be supported for like another 5 or 6.

So basically, yes from what I know.
Oh. Fuck. Me. DEAD!

XP IS DONE. IT IS HISTORY. IT SHOULD GO THE WAY OF 2000.

Vista is not perfect. But you know what? It at least implements something like kernel-space protection.
And does horrible backwards compatibility.
Not going to deny that. But for crying out loud, if you really need a friggin' DOS era program, run it on a dedicated machine or, better yet, a virtual machine. Really, same goes for things that require strict XP compatability - pretty much all XP-era programs are intended for single-core or have no multi-threading to speak of, so running a virtual machine on a multi-core system under Vista will not result in a significant performance hit.

Of course it will replace vista. Then people will spend a year or so bitching about it (the most vocal group being ones who've never actually installed it, using the same damn arguments heard every time there's a new version of windows).

By the 2nd year people will get over it, use it, and there'll be an announcement of windows 8.

I dont know why people hate vista so much, I prefer it over XP.
Some people say its a resource hog. Well, it was when it came out, when "high end" system had maybe 2g of ram, laptops are coming with 4g now.
Also there are a few main things which are resource intesive, but can all be turned off, Aero for one and also the disk indexing.

Personaly the advantages of vista far outweighed the disadvantages.
1) Instant searches
2) Aero Looks realy pretty
3) Doesn't slow over time like XP does
4) Have you ever seen Crysis in dx9 vs dx10? Better yet, have you played Crysis in DX10 it runs a whole lot smoother and the physics work like a dream in dx10

But now that my rant is done the vista haters will continue to hate because they dont want to learn anything new.

Idiots who say Vista consumes a lot of resources need to research how it prefetchs. On a suitable machine it runs a lot faster in day to day use then the same rig on an xp machine.

It may run faster, but it's a much more vast system that inherently has to draw upon more resources than XP... Especially if users of it turn on the 'Aero' feature...

Yeah, it has more features like the proper firewall resulting in a bit more ram usage, however it uses the ram a lot more effectively.
