Assassins Creed. It was great until the plot twist at the end of the game. Usually I like plot twists, but that was just, too much wierdness...

To everyone who did not like Deathnote, you should watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

possible deathnote/gurren lagann spoilers:
It's completely the opposite of Deathnote, it's not like a mastermind plot, it's all robots and fighting. The main character is a super-cool guy and he has a friend who isn't that much of a main character, and it all works out perfectly in the end.

possible Gurren Lagaan spoilers (DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT, GO AND WATCH IT NOW!):
Yeah I was just joking about the TTGN plot, so that when all the stuff happens, anyone who has never heard of it will be more effected.

Avatar was Okay at best untill the main cast escaped prison. It should have ended with them being dragged into their cells then FADE TO BLACK. What came after that made Avatar THE worst movie I have EVER seen.

Opeth's Still Life is one of my favorite albums ever. But closer "White Cluster" is such a dull, repetitive track that sucks all the energy and atmosphere out of the album, and worse, the music fails to match the lyrics in any meaningful way.

Also, Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein is a wonderfully creative and engaging novel...about until Michael Valentine Smith comes back from working at the circus, and you realize Heinlein is writing a Christ story, and all the tension and fascinating thought experiments give way to cheap allegory.

Since this thread begins with anime, I'll keep it going. Samurai Champloo had the worst final episode of any anime, ever. This wasn't a case of the studio running out of money and having to throw something together (Evangelion). This was simply a horrible turn in the storyline. If I knew how to do one of those 'spoiler boxes' that everyone else seems to know how to do, then I'd go into more detail.
how so? i thought it was actually quite good

Nah, I can understand that. Lots of people didn't like it for whatever reason.

I'm curious though as to your reasoning for not really liking it.
I was worried that might happen. ;) For the sake of brevity I won't go into any ridiculous detail (God knows I could), but my biggest problem is that I felt too much of the game was contrived - an issue I loathe in games and movies alike - which isn't helped by the fact that Kojima crammed in every possible character, reference, setpiece, etc. to try and wrap up every conceivable hole in 3+ games-worth of plot. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine game in a fine series, and gameplay-wise it might be the best, but for all the jokes about MGS4 being an "interactive movie" I just felt the first three did a much better job with the characters, character development, and story.

That, and I'm still painfully bitter that two of the best villains in gaming (IMO) were combined in such a wonky way - again, a contrivance I think the game would have been much better without. Two halves don't make a whole!

Sigh, it's hard to fight off cynicism with age. Again, a fine game indeed, but my least favorite in the series. I'm interested to hear your thoughts as well, though I'm sure there's a link to some other topic on the site where you've already made them clear. ;)

The Watchmen was a pretty good movie until I realised who the killer was about one hour in, then had to sit there for another 90 minutes for the credits to roll, because without the mystery the characters and story were pretty dull.

Okay, I've seen the Midichlorian thing a few times now.

Someone's gonna have to explain that to me.
Star Wars. 4,5,6 - the force is mystical. 1,2,3 - the force is biological. Blah.

I loved Inception, but I keep wondering if they could've taken better directions with both Mol and Mr Charles. Oh well...

I can respect those opinions.

Despite my love for the game, I still know exactly what you mean.

The whole ending seemed almost too....rushed. It's as if the only way they could sum up everything was in a long ass monologue from Big Boss (shocker he ain't dead!). The whole deal with tying up every possible loose end is what really made it feel too contrived, but the problem with that is that even if Kojima hadn't made it contrived in that way, we'd be having this conversation about how not every loose end was tied up perfectly and how it left too many holes in the story. Whatever happened to Major Zero? Oh wait, he's right here and Big Boss killed him! Wait, that just seems a little...far fetched? Now I'm nerd raging! Watch out interwebz!!!

Overall, I thought they did it the best they could but it still felt very contrived and like I said, rushed in a way that seemed to leave me wanting a bit more yet I couldn't possibly ask for more since everything is tied up.

Somewhat difficult to explain, but I think this picture [http://images.encyclopediadramatica.com/images/e/ef/Mgs4spoiler.jpg] summarizes everyone's feelings of the ending.

Still though, it's my favorite of the series and my favorite game of all time. I honestly can't think of a way they could have done a better job even though it feels like it could have been perfected, if that makes any sense.

It's just one of those stories that's gotta end one way or another and it won't please everyone :/

Season 11 of the Simpsons was where it started to get bad. Like, HORRIBLE.
Basically, after season 8, it just became a show where the writers threw an increasingly large amount of pop culture references at the audience.

OT: In Inception when Cobb...

Wakes up and gets off the plane to his kids and everything is cool until the shot cuts at the top wobbling...ARGH!

Oh. They did that? I refuse to watch 1 and 2.

Strawberry Panic.

Yes, its a completely silly shoujo ai anime with more chliches than characters but it was entertaining anyway untill the last episode...

Three couples/relationships got resolved and while I was happy with 2, the final one threw me into nerd rage. People act like this enough in RL, why can't fictional characters be more reasonable?
I actually kind of liked the ending. Yeah, it wasn't really "reasonable" but since when are teenagers in love reasonable? I thought it fit with the overall feel and direction of the story rather well and trying to write it differently would have been kind of difficult while still maintaining a happy ending.
A lot of Nagisa's dialogue makes it seem pretty clear that she would have just been "settling" for Tamao. Though I was kind of surprised that Tamao didn't end up getting paired up, or at least hinted at, with someone else. It's rare for such a sympathetic and likable character to get a sad ending like that in a series like Strawberry Panic. Poor Tamao :(.
Yeah, that's what bothered me the most.
It was cool to see kanamae and momo hook up again though, despite the formers weird devotion to aname they seemed to have the most advanced and stable relationship.
Maybe its because I'm a chronic "best friend" myself that I was upset because Tamao was left alone. She deserved better.

But speaking of this: I watched Candy Boy yesterday (now there is a misleading title) and it is *so* much better. It was great.. until it stopped. But the manga is new and still going on, so there is hope. If you liked SP, check it out!

the entire last bit in which Light and Near are revealed to be outsmarting one another during the final chapters. Specifically, I mean when it is revealed that Near switched Death Notes from Teru and gave him a fake one which means no one will die if he writes their names in it.

Light's thoughts at the time are shown and when he realizes what's happened, he exclaims to himself "Exactly as I planned it!!"

How exactly? How can someone plan that far ahead in the future and perfectly predict another's actions of whom he knows nearly nothing about? It was a bit too far fetched for me and for some reason, I didn't think Near doing the same was hardly as contrived as Light's seemed to be.
I more saw that as Light planning for any eventuality. I am sure Light had more than just that planned.

- Smash Brothers series was great till Zamus was revealed. Also, Brawl was absolute shit.

- Nintendo was great till Mario Kart Dash was released. Just as disappointing as the Wii.

- Blizzard was great till they made all these stupid updates in WOW and released Starcraft 2. Seriously, the dialogue and acting in the SC2 cinematics are really painful and the game didn't get anymore exciting. See how Diablo 3 turns out.

Hitting any nerves yet?

- Command & Conquar till EA took over.

- Lineage 2 till bots and farming became popular.

- Yu Yu Hakusho until the dark tournament finished.

I could do this forever.

Kingdom Hearts II was great until they decided to make everything too pointlessly complicated. In case you haven't played it:

So, in Kingdom Hearts 1, we had a bad guy. Ansem. Fair enough, I can dig it. Kingdom Hearts II however, all we defeated was Ansem's heartless, and Xemnas is Ansem's nobody, and the real Ansem is actually a good guy. Then, they add all of these sub-plots regarding Master Xehanort, yet he appears in Kingdom Hearts II as Ansem's apprentice, but in Birth By Sleep he's a bald guy? But now when I think about it isn't Xemnas Xehanort's nobody? AAH!

I was quite content with a teenage boy having his home swallowed by an apocalyptic force and fearing what I didn't understand (the heartless), because fighting them in Traverse Town with Leon(Squall) was really tense...then they had to go and ruin it.

Teenage Wasteland

The last minute of the song has a different feel than the first 4 minutes and seems to be building to something that never happens. What the hell?
I assume you are talking about Baba O'Riley? Interestingly enough the original song was almost 30 minutes long, but as you probably know a radio can't play a 30 minute song. So ultimately Townsend edited the song down to it's current 5:09... Hence the fact that some rifs just come in from nowhere or the song just falls a bit.
Almost 30 minutes!? Are you serious? Is it obtainable?
