Vegans seem more the way christians are. Preaching about how they are right and morally better because the rest of us prefer to enjoy things.ThrobbingEgo said:I'll see your atheist and raise you a vegan.mumakurau said:Being an atheist... in a Christian household. That's my reality.
Though I am out of my parent's house, and they're quite respectful of my views.

Really? I have never once met a vegan who does that, and I have known a lot of vegans. Funny.Miumaru said:Vegans seem more the way christians are. Preaching about how they are right and morally better because the rest of us prefer to enjoy things.
I do that all the time when walking the dog and I have a bag of his poop. I just throw it in the first bin we walk by, no one seems to care.Tallim said:I have had the exact same thing happen to me, I just put an empty can in someones bin which was sitting out for the next day pick up. I was out with my band-mates and we threw a piece of rubbish into someone else's bin. The owner of the house came outside and nagged our ear off about doing so, Better than littering I said. So my question is:
Have you ever tried to do something with good intention, but other people found it to be quite frowned upon or wrong?
Maybe a difficult question to answer, but I know what (some/most) of you are like. So here's to getting a barrage of interesting posts.

I was also with a group of friends maybe that has something to do with it, worried you are "up to something"
But the fact of the matter is that there are more Christians than vegans. I'd rather deal with listening (and laughing) at the justifications of the vegan way than deal with bible thumpers.Miumaru said:Vegans seem more the way christians are. Are they ever around meat eaters? Maybe you just keep better company. I know of preachy vegans though. I WILL argue with them if they start preaching. But otherwise they can not eat meat all they want if thats what they prefer.Camembert said:Really? I have never once met a vegan who does that, and I have known a LOT of vegans. I would, but I quite frankly would rather just not deal with it. Personally I haven't really gotten anything for being kind / helpful as far as I remember.
I did get slapped in the face by some drunkard when I tried to help him communicate to my english only speaking friend (english -> swiss german and back etc.)
Well I'm a meat eater. In fact, it's more often the other way around - I used to be a vegetarian and would constantly have morons asking deliberately irritating questions and making fun of me for not eating meat. On the other hand, no vegan has ever tried persuading me to stop eating animal products, unless I have already expressed interest.Miumaru said:Are they ever around meat eaters? That happens very often in the places I tend to frequent. But it's not really too much of a problem since they go around in twos.Furburt said:I remember once helping this guy up, he was a bit drunk and had fallen off his bar-stool. So I gave him a hand up, and he punched me in the stomach.
Why? He "Didn't need your fucking help".
Talk about pride gone wrong.

Anyway, On the rare occasion that I do something nice, I usually get some gratitude.
Being a vegan for ethics sake seems silly to me honestly. I don't make fun of them though, cept for one snide remark. I dont exactly know the difference between vegan and vegetarian, mostly just assume vegan is even more "hardcore" I guess. But well, a shot at the ethicy ones...difference between plants and animals...plants cant scream. (Both used to be alive before you ate it)Camembert said:Well I'm a meat eater. I just get really sick of people making fun of vegans all the time. It's admirable, it takes restraint. If you have the willpower (I do not) to give up all animal products because of your ethics then that is a great thing.
So... you think someone who believes that killing animals for meat is wrong should go ahead and eat it anyway? Yes, real show of integrity there.Miumaru said:Being a vegan for ethics sake seems silly to me honestly. I don't make fun of them though, cept for one snide remark.
